Transcript
00:00Who is the host of Spike's Car Radio podcast, Spike Ferenstin.
00:06And Wiggy is obsessed, not because of your podcast, but because he used to write not only for Jay Leno, but he used to write for Seinfeld.
00:14That's right. Yeah, yeah.
00:15Which episodes can we credit you?
00:18Soup Nazi was my first one.
00:20Wow.
00:20Maybe arguably the best ever, Seinfeld.
00:23I didn't feel that way when I wrote it, but people seemed to like it.
00:26Oh, that's a great one.
00:27You created the Soup Nazi?
00:29Yes.
00:30That is like the greatest of all time.
00:32Yes.
00:33And I'm from Massachusetts.
00:36I'm from New England.
00:37No way.
00:37Yeah.
00:38What else?
00:38Other episodes?
00:39Little Kicks where Elaine dances.
00:41Yes.
00:42Great moves.
00:43Muffin Tops?
00:44Yeah, yeah.
00:45This guy's royalty.
00:46I know.
00:46That's what I said.
00:47Holy cow.
00:48He's riding royalty and now you're car royalty.
00:51Yeah.
00:51Well, we've always been car guys.
00:53I used to write for David Letterman, who's a car guy.
00:55Then went to write for Jerry.
00:57I worked with Jay.
00:57You know, I've always been around kind of comedy and car people.
01:01Who has a better car collection?
01:02Jay Leno or Jerry Seinfeld?
01:04Seinfeld, for sure.
01:05Really?
01:06Yeah.
01:06I mean, better is a judgment.
01:08Yeah.
01:08But, you know, they're two different kinds of collections.
01:12Like, Jay's collection is amazing, but it's the other side of the hill.
01:17And Jerry's collection is very Porsche-focused.
01:20So, you know, each collection kind of is a reflection of who they are as kind of guys.
01:25It seems like people who collect end up being like a muscle car-focused collector or a, you
01:34know, European, you know, Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari kind of.
01:39I think it's what they like to drive.
01:41I mean, it's really all it is, you know.
01:43And it's unfortunate if your cars end up costing more than the American muscle car, but it's
01:49like a sneaker.
01:50When you get in it and you drive it and you love it, that's your thing, whatever it is.
01:53Do you think it's the eras?
01:55Because I know I was talking to Rob Ninkovich, who plays for the Patriots, and he's big into
02:00cars.
02:01And we were talking about how, like, the Trans Am and the...
02:04He loves Broncos and stuff like that.
02:06But, like, the late 80s, early 90s Trans Ams, like Z28s are starting to come back in, or
02:13the Mustang 5.0s.
02:15Is it like the era that you kind of grow up in?
02:18Because I feel like that was my wheelhouse, and I love those type of cars.
02:21But I also love, like, the 60s Camaros and the Eleanor, the 68 Shelby Mustang.
02:27Yeah, yeah.
02:28So is it, like, more of the kind of, like, when you grew up and maybe the cars, like, just
02:33sparked your interest?
02:34It can be.
02:35You know, what you dreamed about.
02:36You know, there are kind of three stages to a car guy.
02:39There's the dreaming of stuff.
02:41If you're lucky enough to make enough money to afford it, the accumulating of stuff.
02:45And then there's kind of the selling of stuff.
02:47And right now, in the, like, collectible car business, it is about the 2000s and the 2010s
02:54and the late 90s.
02:55You know, that's the hottest part of the market right now.
