Hapur, UP – A horrific incident has come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur, where a man was brutally assaulted by his in-laws and later died after allegedly being force-fed poison.
The victim, identified as Sonu, had an argument with his wife on Wednesday morning. Following the quarrel, his wife called her family from Bulandshahr. Soon after, Sonu was allegedly attacked by his in-laws.
When Sonu tried to escape, CCTV footage captured the shocking chase: several men were seen running after him on the highway, one carrying a stick. Eyewitnesses said the attackers even misbehaved with passersby who tried to intervene.
Sonu was eventually caught, thrashed, and allegedly forced to drink poison. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died during treatment.
His mother, Sukhwiri, expressed anguish, saying,
“Couples fight, that is normal. I don’t know the reason behind their argument. My son gave his wife everything, even sold a bigha of land for her, while she took away my jewellery. They (in-laws) gave him something to drink and killed him.”
Based on the family’s complaint, a case has been registered against seven members of the wife’s family, including the wife herself. Police have begun a manhunt for the accused.
Station House Officer Pilkhuwa, Anita Chauhan, said,
“According to the initial investigation, Sonu consumed a poisonous substance and died during treatment. The matter is under investigation and legal action will be taken.”
The incident has sparked shock and anger in the area, with locals demanding strict action against the culprits.
