00:14dedicated an empty seat to the late conservative political activist Charlie Kirk at the US Open.

00:19Versions of the same story add that he gave a heartfelt speech about Kirk's death,

00:24while others claim he also donated thousands of dollars to Kirk's family.

00:27Kirk was shot and killed on the 14th of September this year at Utah Valley University.

00:32A suspect was arrested shortly afterwards.

00:35And while news of Kirk's death made ripples globally,

00:37the claim that Alcárez dedicated a golden plak and the permanent empty seat to him is false.

00:43Players do not have the authority to alter or dedicate seating at the Arthur Ashe Stadium,

00:47where the US Open is held.

00:49It's owned and operated by the United States Tennis Association,

00:52and every seat is ticketed for fans during the US Open or all their events.

00:56No program or policy allows individuals to permanently dedicate a seat with a plak.
