00:00Today on Forbes, the top 10 richest people in the world, October 2025.
00:07The world's top 10 richest people got $201 billion richer in September,
00:13as US stock markets hit new all-time highs during the month. As a group, this elite subset of
00:20Forbes' billionaires list is now worth $2.3 trillion combined, and all but three of them
00:26are wealthier than they were at the end of August. Our top 10 richest people on earth list is as of
00:33October 1, 2025 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time. As a reminder, stock prices fluctuate routinely,
00:40so the net worths on our list may change on a daily basis. Forbes tracks the daily changes on
00:46our real-time list of billionaires. Forbes has been keeping track of the world's billionaires
00:51since 1987. In April 2025, we found 3,028 of them for our annual list.
00:58The world's two richest people, Elon Musk and Larry Ellison, were also the two biggest gainers,
01:05accounting for nearly three-quarters of the top 10's total increase in wealth.
01:10Musk added $75.2 billion to his fortune, as Tesla's stock soared by 33%,
01:16helping Musk secure the number one spot for the 17th straight month.
01:21With a $490.8 billion fortune as of October 1 at 12 a.m. Eastern,
01:27Musk was within spitting distance of becoming the first person ever worth half a trillion dollars.
01:33In fact, on Wednesday, Musk briefly did become the first person ever worth $500 billion,
01:39per Forbes' real-time Billionaires Tracker. Shares of Tesla climbed by nearly 4%
01:45as of 3.30 p.m. Eastern Wednesday, adding an estimated $9.3 billion to Musk's fortune,
01:52as investors continued to celebrate the prospect of a refocused Musk.
01:56He ended Wednesday worth an estimated $499.1 billion.
02:02Despite this breaking news yesterday, our top 10 richest people in the world list for October
02:06uses numbers from 12 a.m. Eastern time Wednesday, so for this purpose,
02:11Musk's fortune sits at $490.8 billion. Musk also widened his lead over runner-up Ellison to $149 billion,
02:21despite a $70.9 billion boost to the Oracle co-founder's net worth as shares of his software
02:27giant shot up by 24%. Ellison has been the second richest person in the world for the fourth straight
02:34month in a row. His fortune stands at $341.8 billion.
02:41NVIDIA co-founder Jensen Huang was the only member of the top 10 who moved up in the ranking,
02:47and one of only three whose ranking changed. Huang jumped two spots to number 7, as shares of his
02:53chipmaker climbed by 7% and boosted his fortune by $10.7 billion to $162 billion.
03:01That was enough for Huang to overtake the top 10's lone non-American, Frenchman Bernard Arnault of
03:08LVMH, and former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who each dropped a spot to number 8 and number 9,
03:15respectively, despite both of them getting slightly richer over the past month.
03:20Arnault's net worth was up $5.3 billion since last month to $159.4 billion.
03:27And Balmer's fortune grew $2.9 billion since last month to $156 billion.
03:35The world's fourth richest person, Jeff Bezos, was the biggest loser, as shares of Amazon fell
03:41by 4%, shaving $8.4 billion off the fortune of the retailer's founder. Bezos' net worth is $232.5 billion.
03:51Number 3, Mark Zuckerberg, and number 10, Warren Buffett, also saw their fortunes fall.
03:58Zuckerberg's fortune fell by $1.5 billion to $251.5 billion, and Warren Buffett's fortune fell $200 million
04:07to $150.2 billion.
04:10The two Google co-founders land at spots 5 and 6.
04:16Number 5, Larry Page, saw his net worth rise $23.9 billion in the last month to $202.2 billion.
04:24And number 6, Sergey Brin's net worth was up $21.7 billion over the same period to $187.6 billion.
04:33All of the top 10 richest people in the world, as of October 1st, are men.
04:39Each of them is worth $150 billion or more, just like last month.
