00:15increased by just 1%, or $21 billion, to $2.13 trillion.
00:23Driving the modest gain was the fact that August was a mixed month for the world's wealthiest,
00:28with 6 becoming richer and 4 poorer, as several soaring tech stocks retreated.

01:04The biggest gainers over the last month were Alphabet's Larry Page and Sergey Brin,
01:09whose fortunes popped by $20.3 billion and $15.1 billion, respectively.
01:15Shares of the search giant jumped by nearly 9% to a record high.
01:21And this was before a federal judge ruled Tuesday, September 2,
01:24that Google will not have to sell its Chrome browser to remedy its search market monopoly.
01:30Page held steady as the number 5 richest person in the world,
01:33with a net worth of $178.3 billion,
01:36while Brin moved up one rung to number 6, with a net worth of $165.9 billion.
01:45The Google co-founder took the spot of NVIDIA's Jensen Huang,
01:49who slipped to number 9 as his fortune fell by $3.5 billion,
01:54landing his net worth at $150.4 billion.
01:57Shares of NVIDIA dropped by more than 3% on the last day of August,
02:03likely due to China concerns amid an announcement from Alibaba
02:06that it was developing its own chip.
02:10August's biggest loser was July's biggest winner.
02:14Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle,
02:17lost nearly $29 billion after having gained $37 billion the previous month.
02:22Shares of his software and cloud computing firm fell by nearly 10% last month.
02:29Although he was the month's biggest loser,
02:31Ellison maintains his number 2 position for a third month in a row,
02:35with a net worth of $270.9 billion.
02:40Bernard Arnault, the only non-American among the top 10 richest,
02:44moved up to number 7 from number 10,
02:47thanks to an $11.2 billion increase in his net worth,
02:50due in part to the resilient margins of his luxury goods powerhouse, LVMH.
02:56His fortune stands at $154.1 billion.
03:01For the 16th month in a row,
03:03Elon Musk holds on to the title of the richest person on the planet.
03:08Musk is worth $415.6 billion,
03:11$14.4 billion more than last month,
03:14and enough to widen the gap between him and number 2, Ellison,
03:17to a staggering $144.7 billion difference.
03:23Not mentioned so far here are number 3, Mark Zuckerberg,
03:27whose net worth is $253 billion,
03:30and number 4, Jeff Bezos,
03:32whose net worth is $240.9 billion.
03:36Zuckerberg, the social media CEO,
03:39ended August down $13.7 billion,
03:41as shares of meta-platforms,
03:44originally Facebook,
03:46fell nearly 5% due partly to concerns about AI costs,
03:50and yet another AI restructuring.
03:53Bezos, the founder and chairman of Amazon,
03:55saw his fortune drop by $5.5 billion in August,
03:59as Amazon shares ended the month down 2.3%.
04:03Rounding out the Top 10 Richest People in the World list in September
04:07are number 8, Steve Ballmer,
04:09the former CEO of Microsoft and the owner of the LA Clippers,
04:13whose net worth is $151.3 billion,
04:16and who saw his fortune rise,
04:18becoming an estimated $4.4 billion wealthier in the past month.
04:23And number 10, Warren Buffett,
04:25who added $7 billion to his fortune in the past month,
04:29but not enough for him to hold on to his spot
04:30at number 9 from last month.
04:33Buffett's net worth is $150.4 billion.
04:37All of the Top 10 Richest People as of September 1st are men.
04:41Each of them is worth $150 billion or more,
04:45up from $143 billion last month.
