Vikings Invasion, a band from Basel, located on the German border, played blues rock with a heavy progressive edge. Charles Sterchi, Eric Eberhard, and Gerhard Burri had been playing together in this simple configuration since 1970, initially calling themselves "Dreieinkeitsmoses," or simply "Trinity of Moses," after a work by Brecht. At the suggestion of the English record company Penthouse Records, likely confusing Switzerland with Sweden, the band changed its name to "Vikings Invasion." The trio's only album, optimistically titled "Vol. 1" (but "Vol. 2" and others never followed), was released in 1975, exclusively in England, where the musicians lived for some time and occasionally performed. The creature on the album cover was supposed to represent the heraldic coat of arms of their native Basel, but its image was significantly distorted. The album clearly features blues, but it's rather raw and even crude, at times veering into proto-punk.
