00:06age of 88. The ninth Chief of Defence Forces suffered a stroke and was rushed to Glen Eagles

00:12Hospital in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, where he later passed away.

00:17A pivotal figure in the modernisation of the Malaysian Armed Forces, Mohamed Hashim also

00:22played a key role in bringing stability to the nation, most notably through his involvement

00:28in the 1989 Hadiyai Peace Agreement that ended the communist insurgency. He was the younger

00:35brother of Tun Dr Siti Hazma Mohamed Ali, the wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir

00:41Mohamed. After retiring from the military, Mohamed Hashim served as chairman of several public-listed

00:48companies and led the Institute of Strategic and International Studies . He is

00:54survived by three children and five grandchildren. Mohamed Hashim will be laid to rest at the

00:59Raudatul Sakina burial ground in Sungai Bersi.
