Taiwanese and US agriculture authorities have reached new deals, whereby the US will start buying Taiwan's pineapples, while Taiwan will increase imports of American milk.

00:00The U.S. will begin buying Taiwanese pineapples.
00:03That announcement came at a Taipei meeting between Taiwan President Lai Ching-de
00:06and U.S. Agriculture Undersecretary Luke Lindbergh.
00:10Having discussed with my colleagues at the United States Department of Agriculture,
00:15we have decided to take the next step in allowing Taiwanese producers of pineapple
00:20access into the U.S. market.
00:24Lindbergh's here in Taiwan, leading a delegation of 25 U.S. businesses
00:27to encourage agricultural trade.
00:30The two sides also signed a memorandum to increase American milk imports to Taiwan.
00:35The visit comes as Taiwan negotiates with the U.S. to lower import tariffs.
00:39At the memorandum signing, one Taiwan lawmaker used the opportunity
00:42to ask the U.S.'s de facto embassy here in Taiwan to advocate for a lower tariff rate.
00:48The U.S. currently levies a sweeping 20 percent tariff on most Taiwanese goods,
