What do locals in London make of the high street situation.
Transcript
00:00Yeah, it's definitely sad to see stuff closed down. I think it's nice here because a lot
00:06of the time you'll have an independent pop-up in place of an independent. It's always sad
00:10to see an independent go. Where I grew up was a town called Paisley and the high street
00:15there died when I was growing up because of out-of-town shopping centres. It's like a
00:1972,000-person town.
00:21It must be due to the cost of, I don't know, what happens when you have a shop here. You've
00:29got, you know, council rates. You've got, I don't know how it works in terms of costs
00:35of shops, but obviously they are very expensive and that's why these places are closing down.
00:41Years ago, we had a Safeway where now Sainsbury's is. That became a Morrison's. That closed down
00:52for two years. All of those shops then closed down. I think they're now in the Ascendant
00:58area, actually.
