00:00Whether you're an experienced cruiser, a first-time seafarer, or keen to make a splash,
00:15there's one thing we Brits are all on board with. We love cruising.
00:19British demand for cruises is higher than ever. What a sport. You go to bed at night, you wake up,
00:30and wow, I'm in a different country. There's romantic locations,
00:36breathtaking views, exciting activities, and treats and tipples galore.
00:46Cheers, that's gorgeous.
00:49With surprises, and new adventures around every corner. It's odds on...
00:56Oh, wow. We saw the dolphins. It was amazing.
00:59Our fun-loving Brits at sea will love the cruise.
01:03Smaller than the average cruise ship, Ambition annually sails 70,000 nautical miles,
01:18covering 29 countries and 91 ports.
01:21With 14 decks and just under 700 cabins, the ship can accommodate 1,200 guests.
01:36And on board this week are our two groups of holidaymakers.
01:39First up, meet our cruise veterans, Glenys and Ian.
01:46At the moment, Glenys is busy packing.
01:51Yeah, and Ian was supposed to be coming in to help.
01:55Well, I'm here.
01:56My name's Glenys. I'm 75 years of age.
02:00My name's Ian. I'm 73 years old.
02:04Ian's my toy boy, although he wasn't quite as young as I really wanted.
02:08Right. Sorry to hear that, Glenys. Any thoughts, Ian?
02:12Yes.
02:13Okie dokie.
02:16I, seriously, I've got to put some of my stuff in yours because
02:20I obviously need more than you.
02:22We've been married 30-odd years.
02:25OK.
02:26As long as there's room for my stuff, that's all that matters, isn't it?
02:29Well, absolutely. Yes, it is.
02:31The thing we like about cruising is meeting new people, doing new things.
02:36The fact that you go to bed at night, you go to sleep, you wake up, and wow,
02:40I'm in a different country.
02:42It's as if you're in a hotel, but you're going to lots of different places,
02:47and you're taking your hotel with you.
02:49I never thought of it that way like that. I'll use that.
02:52OK. Rewind.
02:54Next up, meet our second duo, father and son Graham and Lewis.
03:01They might be new to cruising, but when it comes to packing, Graham is ahead of the game.
03:06I've finally got my suitcase packed.
03:12I've got all my added back suitcase, added back.
03:14My lovely wife packed the suitcase.
03:17I think the dog wants to come with me as well. Can't wait for this trip.
03:22And it seems dad of two, Lewis, is also getting a little helping hand.
03:26Are you trying to get in? Are you trying to go with daddy?
03:30So, hi, I'm Lewis. I'm from Cottingham in Hull. I'm 35.
03:33My name is Graham. I'm his dad.
03:37Yeah.
03:38So, what's your favorite item that you've packed?
03:41This cool tie. Little monkeys on it.
03:45Very cool.
03:47We have quite a good relationship, don't we?
03:49Yeah. We do the gym together. We see each other every morning.
03:54I love the idea of getting away with my dad, to be honest.
03:56Yeah, it's exciting, isn't it?
03:58I think we'll look after each other in some ways, don't we?
04:01No one should trust us to travel alone, Ray, if I've been honest.
04:04I could do it.
04:06Yeah, I am worried about the, uh, can we do it?
04:10With babies and dogs left safely at home, it's time to get cracking with the cruise.
04:17You don't have to get on a plane to join these cruises. They set off from several UK ports,
04:23and this one started in Bristol, before arriving at its first stop, the French coastal town of Lorient,
04:29where our two sets of holidaymakers will be hopping on.
04:33They will be stopping at a variety of stunning locations along the way,
04:37from the port of Le Verdon, gateway to the beautiful vineyards of Bordeaux, and coastal town of Sulac-sur-Mer,
04:44to the food lovers' paradise of Bilbao. And to round off their week, the last destination
04:50for our fun-loving Brits will be the historic city of Porto, in Portugal.
04:56Each day, our couples will be experiencing activities on...
05:00How's it going so far, Ian?
05:02It's very relaxing, yeah.
05:05..and off...
05:08If you spoil it, oh my goodness, I won't be happy.
05:11..this cruise ship.
05:16Although the ship set off from Bristol, it's now sailed 290 nautical miles to the historical
05:22port of Lorient, where it's docked for the day.
05:25And whilst Graham and Lewis are off to explore the town, Glenis and Ian are eager to get a glance
05:32of their new home for the week.
05:34Wow.
05:35Wowzers. I wonder if that's our room up there.
05:40That's the bridge.
05:41I don't care. Oh, is it? Right, well, not that one then.
05:44We've been on a few cruises before.
05:46I mean, I know it's, like, not as big as some we've been on, but sometimes I prefer smaller ones.
05:52Yeah.
05:55Oh, I can't wait to explore.
06:00Let's get on and let's...
06:01Come on.
06:01Let's do it.
06:03I think the thing we like about cruising is obviously visiting places we wouldn't
06:08probably normally get to see without the hassle of going on an aeroplane or driving for hours
06:14and hours and hours, ferries, whatever. I think that's definitely number one.
06:19And whilst Glenis and Ian take in their new ship surroundings, Graham and Lewis are taking
06:24in their French surroundings of Lorient.
06:26Wow.
06:29Nestled in the south of Brittany, Lorient is a seaport town with deep maritime roots.
06:34It was founded in the 17th century and it's known for its former Navy submarine base built by the
06:40Germans in World War II, which now serves as part of the cultural hub of Lorient.
06:46And as Graham is a French rookie, he's leaning on Saint Louis to be his guide for all things French.
06:51Wow, pops. How do you feel then?
06:54I really love it.
06:56I told you, it's just different, isn't it?
06:57I can't believe the weather we've got as well, isn't it? It's nice.
06:59It's just France. There's something about France.
07:01It just feels different.
07:03You can tell me all about it.
07:06The idea of France is perfect, you know, you've got...
07:08Yeah, I've never been to France.
07:09...different types of foods.
07:10Yeah.
07:11And Lorient was a nice place to visit for your first time in France, I imagine.
07:14Please do not let us forget, we've got to get to the ship for six.
07:20What time is it?
07:21If we miss it, I mean, what do we even do?
07:23I don't know, yeah. We won't miss it, will we?
07:26And whilst the boys navigate the streets of Lorient,
07:30clothes-obsessed Glenis is chomping at the bit to get those cases unpacked.
07:35Hi.
07:36Good afternoon.
07:37Are you OK?
07:37At this moment in time, I can't wait to get to my cabin and have a look round.
07:42Um, Ian is like, oh, we'll take a time and we'll just walk.
07:46And he's like, no, I want to get there now.
07:47Um, not that I'm impatient or anything.
07:50But there are a lot of things to see between here and the cabin.
07:54Close your eyes.
07:54OK.
07:57This should be fun.
07:58First up, it's the interactive central ship map.
08:02We are on deck 10.
08:05How do you know?
08:07So...
08:07Oh, we're not on deck 5.
08:09Oh, you mean we're on deck 10.
08:10We're on deck 5 now, but the cabin...
08:12Oh, right.
08:13Is on 5.
08:1310.
08:14You'll need your glasses on.
08:15Right.
08:16It's quite much me looking.
08:17Right.
08:17Shall we just go up the stairs and explore?
08:20Well, you mean find the cabin?
08:22Yes.
08:23My sense of direction in general is, um, shocking.
08:30Yeah, I can't care.
08:32Thank heavens it's not a large cruise ship.
08:35Although it seems Ian has got his wish and they've already taken a slight detour to the onboard theatre.
08:43Wow.
08:44I'm not sure we should be in here.
08:46Right.
08:47Well, I think it's closed, but we'll have a look.
08:50Oh, wow.
08:51Oh, my word.
08:52Oh, my gosh.
08:53Well, it's got the right name, hasn't it?
08:55But we so need to get to the room now, don't we?
08:57Well...
08:57Yeah?
08:58Come on.
08:58All right.
08:59But we'll be back tonight so we can look at it properly.
09:02Right.
09:02Come on, Ian.
09:03Time to find that cabin.
09:06Well, let's just have a quick look in here.
09:08Oh, let's just have a lie down on here more like it.
09:11Maybe in a minute, then?
09:13Gee.
09:14Well, you can have a lie down on the bed when we get there.
09:16Oh.
09:19Oh.
09:21Pick me up and off now.
09:22And I'm just enjoying the books.
09:24Off my glasses.
09:26Right.
09:27You said a quick look.
09:28Come on, we need to go.
09:30All good things come to those who wait, Glenys.
09:33Let's hope Ian can guide Glenys to her cabin.
09:37Over in Lorient, it seems the boys have also got distracted.
09:42Oh, wow, this is nice.
09:44Yeah, it's nice, isn't it?
09:45Check out that park there, Pops.
09:46Yeah, oh, Jaxie would love that.
09:48Oh, Jaxie would love it.
09:49I'd love it.
09:51Where are you going, lad?
09:56I'll go to the top.
09:57Oh, I couldn't make it up there.
09:59Well, if you can't beat him, you might as well join him.
10:02Hey, Graham?
10:07I thought you was going to have to climb up and give me a kick down.
10:10I'd have a laughter.
10:11I thought my butt was going to get stuck in the middle.
10:13So did I.
10:17Too much information, but glad you both got that out of your system.
10:23Meanwhile, Ian has finally delivered on his promise and has navigated wife Glenys to their cabin.
10:28Oh, we're here.
10:30Oh, we're here.
10:31Oh, hey.
10:33Oh, my goodness.
10:34I never thought the day would come.
10:36You want me to do it?
10:37No, I always do it, don't I?
10:38Okay.
10:39Right, ready?
10:39Da, da, da, da, da, da.
10:42Oh, it didn't work.
10:42Oh, it didn't work.
10:43Oh, it didn't work.
10:43Oh.
10:47That's it.
10:52We're in at last.
10:54We're in at last.
10:55Oh, my word.
10:59Oh, my giddy aunt.
11:00That is not what I expected.
11:16This week, our fun-loving Brits are kicking off their cruising adventure in the French coastal town of Lorient.
11:22The father and son duo, Graham and Lewis, have chosen to hit the town with a spot of sightseeing.
11:30You're in.
11:32She's in.
11:35We'll tag you.
11:36Yeah.
11:37While experienced cruisers Glenys and Ian have opted to get settled into their new home for the next week.
11:46Oh, my word.
11:47Oh, my giddy aunt.
11:49That is not what I expected.
11:52This will be your wardrobe.
11:56Oh, crikey.
11:57No, it isn't.
11:58Is it a lot?
11:59Oh, my giddy aunt.
12:01We can have guests.
12:02No, if you snore or if you annoy me, you're in here.
12:05I remember going in our cabin.
12:08We'd look round and seen there were two bedrooms.
12:11There were so many doors that I couldn't get my head round what was where.
12:15It was big enough to keep you excited.
12:18I thought so.
12:19Don't tell me, Glenys, your aunt is?
12:22Oh, my giddy.
12:23I hadn't thought so.
12:25You wanted a walk-in wardrobe.
12:27There's so many hangers.
12:29Even you can have your clothes in there.
12:31How can somebody be so excited about a wardrobe?
12:34Seriously.
12:34Well.
12:35Oh, my goodness.
12:36There's enough there for all my clothes.
12:38And if there's any left, you can put some in as well.
12:40That's very kind.
12:41I usually have about three or four coat hangers.
12:46And I'm not joking.
12:47I counted the coat hangers and I had more than 40.
12:50I counted coat hangers in the bedroom.
12:53In the cabin.
12:54In the cabin.
12:55Going back.
12:55I did.
12:56It's very sad.
12:57Oh, it is a walk-in wardrobe.
12:58I'll be putting all my stuff away soon.
13:01Oh, my giddy aunt.
13:02I think I was almost sort of reduced to tears.
13:04And that sounds pathetic.
13:06How can anybody get so excited about a wardrobe?
13:09I really don't know.
13:10But I can't.
13:11Gosh.
13:12Oh.
13:13Her own.
13:13Hey.
13:14Hey.
13:15We've got her own balcony.
13:16Oh, gosh.
13:17I can see her spending time out here.
13:19And having a little tipple and reading or playing Scrabble or falling asleep.
13:24Or, um, oh, yeah.
13:26You're going to be busy on that balcony, Ian.
13:29We've got, we can see all the way around, can't we?
13:31Yeah.
13:33You know, it's sort of, you can't get it back, can you?
13:36Once you've seen it, you've seen it.
13:37And, but that first impression was like, and the only problem is with that, I think,
13:41that we've been now spoiled.
13:46Whilst Glenis and Ian are taking in the sights from afar, the boys are walking through Lorient,
13:52keen to check out the architecture of such a historic place.
13:56The town was born in 1666.
13:58But after World War II, 80% of Lorient had to be rebuilt.
14:03The town is famous for its mix of 17th century and modern architecture.
14:08Apparently, you know, we're doing a bit of research on it.
14:11Lorient was a big naval base.
14:14Really?
14:15Yeah, but Germany occupied it in World War II.
14:18So it's quite a modern city, to be fair.
14:20Yeah, well, you can tell there's different art styles all around.
14:22Well, it's been rebuilt.
14:23It's been rebuilt in the Second World War.
14:24But apparently, they, uh, they made, um, another church.
14:28Lorient-Saint-Louis.
14:31Ah.
14:31But it's quite a modern church compared to what you'd imagine a church to be like.
14:36You mean like a big giant tower sticking up through the trees?
14:39It's there.
14:40Well, yeah, yeah.
14:42Oh, there it is, look.
14:43Yeah, let's go.
14:45When you take the time to actually read something and look at it...
14:49Check it out.
14:51It's definitely a modern architecture, though, isn't it?
14:53And when you immerse yourself in the history of it, you become a little bit more attached to the place.
14:59And I mean, design-wise as well, you're looking at it, it feels very minimalist.
15:03It's very smooth, very blocky.
15:06You can't deny that when you do see something at such a scale like that, it's just impressive.
15:11Well, should we, uh, go explore some more?
15:14Yeah, come on.
15:15That's incredible.
15:18A bit hungry, though.
15:19I was just about to say the same thing.
15:21What are you going to have?
15:22I'm fancying seafood.
15:24Maybe it's the...
15:25You know I don't like seafood.
15:26I know, but we're going on a cruise, Pops.
15:28We're going to be in the middle of the ocean.
15:29Like, now's the time to embrace it.
15:31They are ugly blighters that should be left in the sea.
15:35No one wants to look at a fish, and then over fish.
15:38Yeah, but they do taste good.
15:41Oh, God, man, I don't know how we can see it, they're just...
15:45Yes, I think Graham might take some more convincing, Lewis.
15:48We're here for experiences.
15:51I like that.
15:51Yeah?
15:52Maybe try a little bit.
15:53Oh, you're going to love it.
15:54I promise you'll like it.
15:55As Graham prepares himself for a new culinary experience,
16:03back over at the ship, Glenys is getting her holiday clothes
16:06acquainted with her 40-plus hangers.
16:10When you see all these hangers clothes, you'll love it.
16:13Absolutely love it.
16:16Why don't you go and hang some things up?
16:18And then there'll be less room in your case.
16:22Oh, my gosh, this is so exciting, having a wardrobe that you can actually hang stuff in.
16:28There is a lot more to do on this ship, you know, Glenys.
16:32In terms of who had what space in the wardrobe,
16:37Glenys had 85% and I had the other 15%.
16:40I would normally argue with a statement like that, but I think I probably have more than that.
16:47Yeah.
16:47Most of my clothes were in the drawers at the side of the bed and in the dressing table.
16:54And that's why I went out at night. My clothes were pristine and Ian's were all creased.
16:59Suitcases fully unpacked, it's time for Glenys and Ian to get stuck into their sweet treats.
17:05Oh, there it goes. I'm sorry about that.
17:12Seriously, you're not sorry at all. I think you did it on purpose.
17:16Now, now, you two. No falling out. We've only just started.
17:20Is that because I brought too many clothes and you want to get rid of some?
17:24Well...
17:24What if it was the only pair I had this colour and it matches everything?
17:29That would be a problem. It is a problem.
17:31But we'll not bother. Cross that bridge when we come to it.
17:36As Glenys and Ian deal with strawberry gate,
17:39Graham and Lewis have found a seafood restaurant before heading to the ship.
17:44This looks like a nice spot.
17:46A seafood restaurant.
17:49Ah, time to embrace la poisson, Graham. You might like it.
17:54Particularly told him never to take me to a fish restaurant.
17:56And where do we end up? First meal, fish restaurant. Typical Lewis.
18:00I'll try a little bit of yours. It's all about trying new things, isn't it?
18:04What are you thinking of having them, Pops?
18:05I don't know. I'm going to get this.
18:06Bonjour, monsieur.
18:07Ah, bonjour.
18:07Bonjour.
18:08Bonjour.
18:09Est-ce que vous ĂȘtes allĂ© boire quelque chose pour commencer?
18:13Um, sorry. I don't speak that well French.
18:16Yeah, in English.
18:17Bonjour.
18:18Bonjour.
18:19Bonjour.
18:20Good start.
18:21Um, this sounds really terrible, doesn't it? We don't know like other people's languages.
18:26I thought you had like, you told me you'd learn some circuit pops.
18:29You can say you forgot.
18:30Yeah, I forgot.
18:31Can I have that one, please?
18:34The moule ou bleu?
18:35Should we play?
18:35Yeah.
18:36Oh, no, not the blue.
18:36That one.
18:37The marinier.
18:38Yes.
18:38The moule marinier.
18:39Okay.
18:39No problem.
18:40How you got?
18:41Um, yeah, please could I have the, uh, ceviche de bar?
18:45The ceviche de bar.
18:46Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:47I tried.
18:47No problem.
18:48Try, try again.
18:48Ceviche de bar.
18:50Oui.
18:50Ceviche de bar.
18:51Ceviche de bar.
18:52Perfect.
18:54Can we take the menu?
18:56Oh, yeah.
18:57I would say thank you.
18:58Merci.
18:59Merci, of course.
19:00Merci beaucoup.
19:02Like, I'm going to say it like French.
19:04Merci beaucoup.
19:06Is that French?
19:07Perfect.
19:08Oh, wow.
19:08Wow.
19:09Good pops.
19:11Thank you very much.
19:13Brought you the saucepans.
19:14Oh, thank you so much.
19:18Oh, check that out.
19:21Look at this.
19:23Fancy, huh?
19:24Nice.
19:25When my muscles turned up, I was overwhelmed.
19:30I mean, that must have been for two people.
19:33Yeah, if not three, four, I'm pretty sure.
19:35Yeah.
19:38You could have had some of mine if you'd have asked.
19:40I enjoyed what I got, definitely.
19:42Can I have a muscle, Dad?
19:44I tried a muscle.
19:47I hope this is how you're meant to eat it.
19:48Well, I know each.
19:50Here you go.
19:51Try this.
19:53No.
19:53No, no, no.
19:54You said you'd try it.
19:55No, no, no.
19:55It's so much smaller.
19:56What is that?
19:57Fish.
19:59Look at that.
20:02It's nice.
20:02I want to promise.
20:05Oh, it's cold.
20:06Yeah, of course it's cold.
20:08Oh, man, I laugh.
20:10But the flavours are nice, but it's a texture, man.
20:13Is it that texture?
20:16I didn't expect it to be cold.
20:17I thought it was hot.
20:19Well done, Graham.
20:20At least you tried.
20:22It'd be unfair and disrespectful not to try some fish in a fish restaurant.
20:27No way.
20:27You was adamant you wasn't going to try it until I thought it was hot.
20:30You tried it and then you offered me it.
20:32Just try that bit.
20:33So I thought, okay, and I hit it and it was stone cold.
20:37It was very cold.
20:38That freaked me out massively.
20:40Hey, what time is it?
20:41Oh, I think we, I think we need to get going.
20:46What would you do if you looked over your shoulder and it wasn't there?
20:48Oh, no, I imagine.
20:49I think you should eat faster.
20:51Let's get going soon.
20:53There you go, Pops.
20:54Cheers.
20:55Right.
20:56Let's get going.
20:57Come on.
20:58Let's get to that ship.
20:59Yeah, we started our trip with new things, I think, going into a fish restaurant.
21:03But yeah, it was really nice.
21:05I really enjoyed it.
21:07Looking forward to going on to the cruise.
21:10It means a lot, really.
21:11And I've seen a different side of Lewis as well.
21:13His innate ability to pick out information from buildings and things like that.
21:20And they tell me all about it and stuff.
21:23But yeah, it's good.
21:25It means a lot to me, this.
21:26Just to be with Lewis, really.
21:28Yeah.
21:29Look at that ship.
21:31I wonder what the foes like on that.
21:33This trip is important to me.
21:35I think really when I've sat and had a moment to think why I'm doing this,
21:39is because I'm very aware that everyone's getting a bit older now.
21:43Like, my kids are growing up, albeit, you know, still only young.
21:46But I'm getting older.
21:47My dad's getting older.
21:48And I don't want to get to the point where we can't do a trip like this.
21:52And we go, we wish we did.
21:54So, overall, it's really important, actually.
21:57I know we're going to look back and just be like, what a blast.
22:01And whilst Graham and Lewis finally make their way to the ship,
22:05it's time for a spot of afternoon tea for Glenys and Ian.
22:08Here we go.
22:09We're in the right place.
22:10This is where we have our high tea.
22:12I'm starving.
22:12You're not hungry.
22:13Oh, yeah.
22:14Well, that's why I missed lunch, so we could have this.
22:16Yeah, yeah.
22:17Every week, the ship serves thousands of platters of pastries and sandwiches,
22:22so nobody needs to worry about running out of sweet treats.
22:25Cakes, cakes, cakes, and more cakes.
22:29I love cakes.
22:30I could live off them, um, seriously.
22:33All right.
22:34Bon appétit.
22:35Bon appétit.
22:37Oh!
22:40Mmm.
22:41That's yummy.
22:42Mmm.
22:43I think I've been a bit greedy.
22:45I don't think I'll probably get through all that.
22:47When I go anywhere, um, whether it out for the day or on a week's holiday or wherever,
22:54um, I always have to look for cakes.
22:57I think I've got a bit of an obsession with cakes, actually.
23:01And what I actually like the most is that they're a nice little size, so...
23:06You can have a lot of them.
23:08I do like my cakes, and I certainly have my fill of cakes, um, but luckily I never get fed up of cakes.
23:17That's my soul.
23:20Sweet.
23:20I'm a sweet person.
23:22You're not.
23:23Indeed.
23:23Mm-hmm.
23:24But...
23:25Oh.
23:25Oh, thank you so much.
23:31Oh, beautiful.
23:33Thank you so much.
23:36All right.
23:38Cheers.
23:39Cheers.
23:40Cheers.
23:40Here's to a very enjoyable cruise.
23:46Here's to my cream on my scum.
23:49There's a, there's a bit there that you haven't got some cream on.
23:51Yeah.
23:53Yeah, well done.
23:56Cream on scones.
23:57Scones? Since when did you call them scones?
24:00Scones.
24:00Scones.
24:01I've come from Lancashire, there's scones.
24:04Oh, I think I need to cut down a bit on the cakes.
24:08Come on, Glynnis, you're on holiday.
24:10Treat yourself.
24:11Well, yeah, I'll have to waddle you down that gangplank.
24:14Oh, I couldn't eat another thing now.
24:17All right.
24:18Right, shall we go back to the cabin?
24:20Yeah.
24:21Well, that was delicious.
24:22I'm glad we missed lunch for that.
24:24That was, uh...
24:25I feel like I'm, oh, that's, I've eaten too much.
24:28It'll be the cream, but yeah.
24:35It's the moment they've been waiting for.
24:37First time cruisers Graham and Lewis finally make their way to the ship.
24:41Look at that over there, look.
24:44There she is.
24:45Oh, I can see it, Pops.
24:46Ooh, look at that.
24:48Whoa.
24:49Look at that!
24:50I tell you what, Matt, now I really do hope we've got a balcony deck.
24:53Imagine that!
24:54Yeah.
24:55And the sea view, of course.
25:01Oh, here we go, Pops.
25:04Oh, we made it.
25:05There we are.
25:07Come on, let's go find it.
25:12Look at the size of it, Pops.
25:14And this is home.
25:16This isn't even the biggest one, you know.
25:19People on board already.
25:21Yeah.
25:22I'm glad you got us here on time, Dad.
25:24Oh, yeah.
25:24You did the job I asked you to do.
25:27The lads tour has officially started on it, pal.
25:29Yeah, I feel like we're going to have a crack in time, or at least an eventful one.
25:33Then have a look.
25:34Let's get exploring then, eh?
25:35Yeah, let's do it.
25:36Come on, let's go and have a look.
25:37It's day one of this week's cruise, and both pairs of holidaymakers are making the most of their time.
26:02Oh, my giddy, aunt.
26:04And seasoned cruisers, Glenis and Ian, have wasted no time making themselves at home on board.
26:09Oh, there it goes.
26:10Oh, I'm sorry about that.
26:12Seriously, you're not sorry at all.
26:14I think you did it on purpose.
26:15Meanwhile, first-timers, Graham and Lewis, spend their morning soaking up the sights and eating seafood.
26:21Look at that.
26:24It's nice.
26:24I want to promise.
26:27Oh, it's cold.
26:28Yeah, of course it's cold.
26:30And now they're dipping their toes into life at sea with their very first taste of cruising.
26:36I don't know if I should take my shoes off.
26:47I can't believe this is on my shift.
26:49Hey, this is cool.
26:50I'll turn the clamp off.
26:52This'll do.
26:53For sure, this'll do.
26:57I didn't expect anything like this.
27:00I really thought I should take my shoes off, to be honest.
27:02So posh.
27:04It just didn't feel like he was inside a ship.
27:08You know, it felt like he was walking into some sort of hotel lobby.
27:11Yeah.
27:12It did feel like that, didn't it?
27:13It did.
27:13It just took us off by surprise, I think, as well.
27:15Yeah.
27:16Yeah.
27:18Taking the lift next time.
27:20It's the cardio done for the month.
27:22Missed the gym for one day.
27:24Here we go, deck 10.
27:27Sweet.
27:28Let's do this.
27:28Time for the newbie cruisers to navigate their way to their cabin.
27:33Time for the newbie.
27:34Time for the newbie.
27:36Time for the newbie.
27:37Time for the newbie.
27:38Time for the newbie.
27:38Okay, we're getting closer.
27:39Time for the newbie.
27:40It's the next one.
27:40It's 10.21, I'm sure.
27:43Which is, it's not there.
27:46Where have you taken me now?
27:49I'm going this way.
27:52Do you even know where we're going now?
27:5310.21.
27:55Ah, yeah.
27:57Just for you.
27:5810.21.
27:59There's our bags.
28:00We've made them.
28:01Oh, the bags.
28:02At last.
28:02Finally, the boys have tracked down their cabin.
28:05Have you got a key?
28:07Somewhere.
28:08Do you have yours?
28:09I've got my hand.
28:09I've got my key.
28:11I'm always looking after you, boy.
28:14I knew I brought you for a reason.
28:15Ready?
28:16Yeah.
28:16Let's have a look.
28:19My God, we've got fruit.
28:21I've got a surfer.
28:22What?
28:24That's it, we've made it.
28:25This is crazy.
28:25And look at the beds.
28:27Look how far apart they are, so I don't have to hear you snoring.
28:29I can't believe we've got a fruit bowl.
28:33I mean, I've done a ferry before, and I was assuming it would be quite similar.
28:38You know, we was hoping there would be a balcony at the time, weren't we?
28:40But it was like, we even had a bath.
28:43Bath?
28:43I did that bath.
28:47Oh, that was pathetic.
28:51Oh, yes.
28:52Is it good?
28:53Yeah.
28:53Soft enough?
28:54I don't know if you need to lay it, though, because my arm goes away.
28:57No, I've already claimed this one.
28:58The bag is on this bed.
28:59No, you're...
29:00No.
29:01This is it.
29:02You've already sli...
29:02You've already laid down.
29:04I'm ready.
29:05That's all right.
29:09What do you think?
29:09Love it.
29:10Mmm.
29:12Right.
29:14Don't speak to me for another day, please.
29:16How many jerking pops?
29:19We was all right with the room once we got the hierarchy right.
29:22You know, the, uh...
29:24I went first.
29:25Age.
29:27First.
29:27I was going to say age before beauty, but...
29:29You know.
29:34This is an apple.
29:35You've even got grapes.
29:39I can't believe we've got a fruit bowl.
29:42And whilst Graham finally tucks into his beloved fruit bowl,
29:46Glenis and Ian have fuelled up for their first activity.
29:50Good afternoon, guests.
29:52We hope you're having a fantastic day.
29:54Anyone for a game of Skittles?
29:55I must admit, I'm looking forward to this.
29:59I'm excited.
29:59But have you seen the size of the Skittles running like that?
30:02I thought they'd be like that.
30:03Ian and I are very competitive, whatever we're doing.
30:06We're good losers on the outside, but it hurts in here.
30:11You've got to take into account the sway of the shit.
30:14Oh, don't start.
30:18Irene, how many did you get?
30:19There was one.
30:20Oh, dear.
30:23Which is your bad leg?
30:24Boom, boom.
30:29Up next, we've got Ian and Glenis both playing for the red team.
30:33Come on.
30:34Come on, Ian.
30:35Come on, Ian.
30:36Are we ready?
30:42Looks like a sterling start for Ian.
30:44What are you thinking, Glenis?
30:46Oh, well, I'm a bit disappointed, to be honest.
30:48I think he could have done better than that.
30:49I was expecting a strike.
30:51Crikey.
30:52Tough crowd.
30:53Ian used to be able to play really well, temping ball, and so I expected great things
30:59from him.
30:59And to be honest, he was nearly as shocking as me, weren't you?
31:02I think there's something to do with the acoustics.
31:04Yeah, I knew there'd be some excuse.
31:08Here we go, then, Glenis.
31:09Your turn.
31:10Okay.
31:12Come here.
31:13Come here.
31:13Let's get that air out of you.
31:15No pressure.
31:16Okay.
31:21It's only a game.
31:22We say that when we lose.
31:25Nice strategy, Ian.
31:27The skittles were too small, and the ball was too small.
31:31I wanted the skittles to be that big, and the ball to be that big, and they were, no.
31:35It was disastrous for me.
31:37You did okay, didn't you?
31:38Yeah.
31:38Like you, my fan.
31:40Next up, Ambassador's Laura has a new plan for our competitive skittle players.
31:46All right, what we're going to do to spice things up a bit, we're going to play just one
31:50bowl each, but it's going to be double points for this final round.
31:54Still all to play for.
31:55Come on, team.
31:56Come on.
31:57That's the spirit, Ian.
32:00I must admit my first sort of impression of the ship.
32:04Obviously, we've come straight to doing this, and I think, oh my goodness, I hope there's
32:08more activities like this, because there's such good fun, and it's lovely chatting to all the
32:13other people, and you know.
32:15Under arm or over arm?
32:17Ian, just get on with it.
32:18Come on.
32:19Please don't do over arm.
32:22Go Red.
32:23Come on, Ian.
32:24He shoots.
32:25He scores.
32:27Give me five.
32:30So, I've shown you how to do it.
32:33Okay.
32:34It's all down to you now, Glenis, with the final bowl.
32:38Good luck.
32:41Two down.
32:42Not bad.
32:42That is four points.
32:43Four is better than nothing.
32:45It is just about.
32:50In second place, it's the Red.
32:52Congratulations, please.
32:54Well done, team.
32:56We did our best.
32:58We did our best.
32:59We did shocking, but for our first activity, we can only get better, can't we?
33:04We can.
33:05It gives us a flavour of things to come, I hope, and we'll definitely participate in more.
33:13Well done, you two.
33:14It's the taking part that counts.
33:15So, that was good fun, wasn't it?
33:17That was really good fun, yeah.
33:18So, which way we're going to go?
33:19We're going to go that way?
33:20We're going to go that way.
33:21Oh, we'll explore down here.
33:22Down that way?
33:23Yeah, that'll be good.
33:30First team activity ticked off the list.
33:32Back in the cabin, Graham and Lewis are settling in before setting sail.
33:36You brought your swim shorts?
33:39Yeah.
33:41Good.
33:41Which ones did you bring?
33:42Hmm?
33:43Which ones did you bring?
33:46All of them?
33:46All of them.
33:47I literally feel the same.
33:49Can I get me suit out?
33:50Yeah, get your suit out.
33:53How did she fit that in there?
33:54Ah, mum is a goodie though, isn't she?
33:56What the hell?
33:57She's very good at packing.
34:01Yeah, I mean, packing for a cruise, that was incredibly difficult for the wife.
34:07She didn't have a clue what I needed, but she managed to pack it all in.
34:12Yeah.
34:12Oh, look, I've got a message.
34:17I miss you, but have a great time.
34:19Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
34:21Love you lots, Dee.
34:22Nah, man.
34:23Told you my mum's a softie.
34:24Yeah, I left her one under the pillow.
34:26Oh, did you?
34:27What do you think pops?
34:28You like it?
34:30Yeah, it's nice of that, mate.
34:31Feels like holiday.
34:32Yeah.
34:34Absolutely excited.
34:35Now that we're actually in the room, I feel like we've got a full stop to where our travel
34:42necessity needs to be, so we can dump our stuff and know that we've got a base.
34:47So now it's just making it even easier to explore.
34:50As soon as it's all unpacked, I think we're going to just get ourselves ready, go explore,
34:55and actually find something to go do that's just completely not what we're normally used to.
34:59My roommate, you know, would I change him?
35:01Maybe.
35:02Would I change him forever?
35:03Never.
35:06Whilst Graham and Lewis finish unpacking, Glenys and Ian are getting spruced up and ship-shaped
35:12ready for their first evening on board.
35:14Oh, oh, that looks nice, eh?
35:17Is that all right?
35:18Yeah.
35:18It's great.
35:19Right.
35:19Okay.
35:19I think we're both excited for going out tonight, aren't we?
35:22Yeah.
35:25There we are.
35:26Okay.
35:26Ready to rock and roll?
35:27Ready for me.
35:29First night out?
35:30Yeah.
35:30Um, having a cocktail of four, um, and hopefully, well I'm sure it'll carry on being as great as
35:38it's been today.
35:39It's like being in London's Piccadilly.
35:42I know.
35:43Um, it's that good.
35:44Yeah.
35:45Here we go.
35:46Angel bar.
35:47Oh, okay.
35:48This is a place where we'll no doubt get a cocktail or two.
35:53Yeah.
35:58I'm going to have a dark and stormy.
36:00What's that?
36:01Dark rum, fresh lime juice, Angostura bitters, sugar syrup, and ginger ale.
36:07That sounds cool.
36:08Yeah.
36:08We're looking forward to an exciting first night on board.
36:11Mm-hmm.
36:12Yeah.
36:13And exploring a little bit more at the same time.
36:15Absolutely.
36:15Yeah.
36:17Thank you very much.
36:21Beautiful.
36:23Okay.
36:23Thank you very much.
36:24Thank you very much.
36:24Ooh.
36:26First cocktail of the holiday.
36:28Yeah.
36:28Cheers.
36:29Cheers.
36:29Good health.
36:30Good health.
36:30Here's to plenty more during the cruise.
36:32Absolutely.
36:36Mmm.
36:38That's nice.
36:39Tasty.
36:40Mmm.
36:43Whilst Glenis and Ian chill out after a busy day, the boys are admiring the view.
36:48Three, two, one.
36:50One.
36:52Wow.
36:52Wow.
36:52Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
36:54Check that out.
36:58Look how much room there is.
37:02What?
37:02Come on, let's have a look.
37:07Oh, Pops, I love it.
37:08Oh, wow.
37:10We are going to be so fine here, aren't we?
37:13Yeah.
37:15And, Pops, you know what's going to make this even better?
37:16What's that?
37:17A little bit sweeter.
37:19There's strawberries and a cup of tea.
37:22Shall we have the wine, though?
37:23The wine?
37:24Go get it, Pops.
37:25Oh, that looks nice, doesn't it?
37:38Cheers.
37:39Cheers, Pops.
37:40It's going to be an adventure.
37:42I think so.
37:42Beautiful view.
37:45Beautiful people.
37:49Beautiful strawberry chocolates.
37:50Yeah.
37:50I think they bring them every day.
37:51Ooh.
37:53Cheers.
37:54A proper cheers.
37:57Doop.
38:00Mmm.
38:02I really hope they do bring those every day.
38:03What a splendid day it has been for our intrepid travellers.
38:11Lovebirds, Glenis and Ian have been making the most of what Ambassador Cruz has to offer on board.
38:30That's incredible.
38:30Hear my five.
38:33Whilst father and son, Graham and Lewis, have been lapping up their time in Lorient.
38:38That's incredible.
38:38And now the time has come for the ship to set sail and make its way to its next destination.
38:45As Glenis and Ian make their way to the onboard theatre for the evening, Graham and Lewis are taking in the final scenery of Lorient on the top deck.
38:57Oh, thank you very much.
38:59Lovely.
39:01Cheers.
39:01Cheers.
39:01Thank you so much.
39:02We will try.
39:05It's been nice today, hasn't it?
39:07Do you know what?
39:07It felt like we walked for so long.
39:11Yeah.
39:11But to finish it with that restaurant was just something else.
39:16Their muscles looked unbelievable, Pops.
39:19I know.
39:20But nice, sir.
39:21Really nice.
39:24I think we're finally moving.
39:26Can you feel it?
39:27Oh, yeah.
39:28Hey, we're going.
39:29Oh, Pops, that's it.
39:31The trip has officially begun.
39:33All right, it has.
39:34Cheers, Pops.
39:34Cheers, sir.
39:35Love you, mate.
39:36Love you, too.
39:36And whilst the boys master their sea legs,
39:43Glennis and Ian are ready and waiting for the evening entertainment to commence.
39:47Oh, my gosh, I've never been as near to this day.
39:50Full stage, isn't it?
39:51Yeah, yeah.
39:52Wow.
39:53Yeah.
39:54I'm so excited.
39:55Palladium Theatre.
39:56Wave.
39:56Roll up, roll up, as we present an avant-garde circus show with a difference.
40:02The big top awaits as our ringmaster whips up a storm.
40:06That took you by surprise, didn't it, Glennis?
40:16Tonight's onboard production is a circus showcase.
40:19It's based on an avant-garde Victorian circus featuring ten principal performers.
40:28This is just one of the many productions that the theatre crew puts on twice a day.
40:32Well, whatever you do, have a wonderful rest of your night.
40:38Have a great day tomorrow.
40:40We'll do it all over again, but let's hear it once again for the cast.
40:43What's up, Glennis?
40:45Oh, my gosh, I didn't want it to finish, did you?
40:49Yeah.
40:50It's one of the best productions I've ever seen.
40:52Yeah, absolutely.
40:55It should be up there on Broadway or the West End.
40:58The costumes, the music, the energy, the energy that they had.
41:03We feel now, don't we, that we've had one day, I feel like I've been here for four or five days,
41:08and we've crammed so much in, haven't we, that it's like I keep saying.
41:15If every day's going to be like this, we'll be tired but very happy by the end of the cruise.
41:25And up on the top deck with the boys and their cocktails, talk turns to loved ones back home.
41:30Will our family be a bit jealous?
41:32It'd be nice to have them here, wouldn't it?
41:35But are they going to be a bit jealous?
41:36Oh, they're going to be a lot jealous.
41:37And they're going to be very jealous.
41:38Piennes Cladis, swimming pool, jacuzzi.
41:40Yeah.
41:41Disco.
41:42I'm just...
41:42Bar bar.
41:45Hey, do you know what?
41:47I'd love to meet the captain.
41:49Yeah, you were saying that before we even arrived, wasn't you?
41:51Yeah, get your suit on, go and meet the captain, go for a nice meal.
41:55It would be nice to get dressed up.
41:56That's how I'm looking forward to that.
41:57Yeah, definitely.
41:59I can't remember the last time you wore a suit.
42:00I can't remember the last time I wore a suit.
42:02I know one thing that Mum's going to want to see.
42:04Famous Graeme selfies throughout our entire trip.
42:09Yeah.
42:09I'm definitely not like the selfie taker or location shot anymore,
42:13because I think you've taken over.
42:15Yeah, well, camera on, arm up.
42:19Wow, that looks pretty.
42:20Boom picture.
42:21Everything's a parental selfie moment where your head's too low.
42:26Oh, look, the sun.
42:27I like taking pictures.
42:28It's like memories, aren't they?
42:30Put the cherry on me.
42:32There you go.
42:34Well, cheers.
42:35A little bit of a lifetime here.
42:36Cheers, pal.
42:37Let's go fill these up, shall we?
42:38Let's go get some fresh ones.
42:39Cool ones.
42:41The first day is drawing to a close for our holiday makers.
42:45From exploring the historic French city of Lorient.
42:48Check it out.
42:49To afternoon tea.
42:50Mmm, actually, isn't it?
42:52And a game of Skittles.
42:54Yay!
42:56It's safe to say they're all easing into crew's life rather nicely.
43:00But the big question is, what do they make of it all?
43:03Time for the scores.
43:05So how are we going to rate the first day?
43:08OK, well, what we rate, I take it we're rating it on absolutely everything sort of put together.
43:13Out of five suns, how would you rate it?
43:19The cabin, the ship, the activities.
43:21Yeah, the park was fun.
43:23The park won.
43:24So that should be a really, really, really easy pass, shouldn't it?
43:28Well, it should be, but we got lost, didn't we?
43:31Well, that's only because you're gone, Lance.
43:33I would never give full marks because there's always got to be an element for improvement.
43:38A room for improvement.
43:40Yeah.
43:40I'm happy with that.
43:42Yeah.
43:42Five suns.
43:44Five suns.
43:45Proud first day, 100%.
43:46Yeah.
43:47First day, we're going to score four and a half.
43:57Next time, we're on the southwest coast of France.
44:00Not a bad little pad, is it?
44:02Where Glenys and Ian get their taste buds tickled wine tasting.
44:06This is a little spicy.
44:08Very nice.
44:09Then have a go at making some.
44:12Whoops.
44:13It's not as easy as it looks.
44:16And Graham and Lewis get competitive.
44:20Off and on the ship.
44:22So, it's full.
44:24Oh.
44:26got rid of the ship.
44:29The ship.
44:29Okay.
44:31Thanks.
44:33This is the south shore.
44:33I'm where.
44:35Aank.
44:35No.
44:36Thanks.
44:36Get our go.
44:37Got around.
44:37Ah.
44:37Very good.
44:38Nice.
44:39By the ship.
44:40And take two phases.
44:40And take a close journey.
44:41Do do do do do do do youïżœ.
44:41I don't think this very traditional castle.
44:44They're going to be a fire shop.
44:45That was a surprise.
44:46Go check if your escapee shop.
44:47They're going to be a cancer group.
44:48They're going to be groaning.
44:50As we speak on the ranch J namely.
