00:00What's up? Paul here from Guitar World and today we're going to be checking out a beautiful guitar
00:20that offers so much at an affordable price point, the Donner DST 400 electric guitar. Let's check
00:27it out. Donner makes a bunch of electric guitars as well as numerous other musical products but the
00:36DST 400 is clearly the most important member of their DST family of electrics. This model starts
00:43with an eye-catching alder body with a high gloss finish with the typical S-style contours and curves
00:50found on this type of guitar. Its bolt-on AAA Canadian maple neck features a laurel fingerboard
00:56and you can see it is outfitted with vintage-style tuning machines. The neck has an easy-to-play C-shaped
01:03profile that's satin finish with 22 frets. Electronics for the DST 400 consists of a humbucker
01:10and two single coils making it a popular HSS configuration that many players love to use.
01:17What's cool is the humbucker has a hotter output for searing lead tones.
01:36The DST 400 features a pushable coil split system for the humbucker. Now this is achieved when you locate the bottom tone control and then just push on it.
01:40To get that split coil sound. Leaving it in place you get the full humbucking tone or if you pull up on the tone control you get the classic single coil spank.
02:00You can get up to seven different tones whether you're in single coil mode or humbucker mode using the five-way switch.
02:06There's also a two-point tremolo with a cold rolled steel block to produce warm and powerful sounds.
02:13Okay let me take you through the guitar's different sounds that you can get using this configuration of a humbucker and two single coils.
02:21As I said before it's also a push-pull circuit so you can get some of that single coil sound. Now obviously
02:27the humbucker adds a little more rock sound to it so with the five-way position on this switch all the way down
02:34it's just over here the humbucker but if I use the tone control over here and pop it up what happens
02:41is it splits the coil and it uses this coil so you get that single coil sound just in the bridge
02:47and if I put it back down then you have the full humbucker and as I move you know up up here in
02:52the in-between sound this next position I have the humbucker and the single coil and then in the middle
03:00I have just the middle position pickup and then this position I get both these sounds and over
03:07here I just get that neck pickup. Now keep in mind if I'm using the split coil sound now when I'm down
03:14here it's just that in the bridge and when I move it over here I kind of get these two like that split
03:21coil sound so it gets a nice you know bluesy type of sound and very very nice chimey cleans and of course
03:28knocking it back down then of course you're back to here using the humbucker along with that in the
03:32middle or just a humbucker for more of that rock tone so with that let's take a listen starting with
03:40just using the humbucker sounds on a clean channel so you get to hear the range of tones
03:54some water the air you see on your chandelier along with that make sounds so i can hear the
03:57sounds so i can avoid so i can avoid this here for you

05:39Now let's hear the DST-400 with a few rock tones.
06:01This is where the guitar really opens up and shines.
06:03. . . .
06:13. . . .
06:53The DST-400 is also available in two finishes, vintage dark green, which I have here, and classic black.
07:15Not to mention, for its price, this guitar comes equipped with a water-resistant gig bag, a high-quality instrument cable and guitar strap, and Allen wrenches for any adjustments.
07:28The Donner DST-400 electric guitar not only has a wealth of rich and balanced tones, but it is also lightweight and plays easily,
07:47and is a great guitar for any beginner or intermediate players because of its enticing value.
07:52Definitely check it out.
