00:00JK Rowling is firing back at Emma Watson after the actors made comments about their strained
00:04relationship. The Harry Potter creator released a lengthy statement on X saying she has so little
00:09experience of real life, she's ignorant of how ignorant she is. Watson, who rose to fame as
00:15Hermione Granger in the film adaptations of Rowling's books, recently appeared on Jay Shetty's
00:20podcast where she shared her deepest wish to separate her relationship with Rowling from
00:25their opposing views on trans rights. Rowling, a vocal critic of trans rights policies in the UK,
00:31has long faced backlash from fans and even the Harry Potter trio, Watson, Daniel Radcliffe,
00:36and Rupert Grint, all of whom have voiced support for the trans community. But some were surprised
00:41to see Watson make some more neutral comments saying, I will never believe that one negates
00:48the other. And that my experience of that person, I don't get to keep and cherish.
00:58I, to come back to our earlier thing, like, I just don't think these things are either or.
01:03I think it's my deepest wish that I hope people who don't agree with my opinion will love me and
01:13I hope I can keep loving people who I don't necessarily share the same opinion with.
01:17Rowling quickly pounced, first sharing a spoof of Watson's remarks, then following up with a
01:22scathing post. She accused the actors of acting as de facto spokespeople for the world she created
01:28and adds, quote, the greatest irony here is that had Emma not decided in her most recent interview to
01:34declare that she loves and treasures me, a change of tack I suspect she's adopted because she's known as
01:39full-throated condemnation of me is no longer quite as fashionable as it was. I might never
01:44have been this honest. The author also claimed Watson's privilege shields her from what Rowling
01:49describes as the real-life challenges that inform her stance on gender issues. She ends her post by
01:54saying, quote, Emma is rightly free to disagree with me and indeed to discuss her feelings about me in
02:00public, but I have the same right and I finally decided to exercise it. For more on the story, head over
