What should travellers be aware of when travelling to Europe in Autumn?
Transcript
00:00Interestingly, this year is going to be very atypical, I'm afraid.
00:05The 12th of October this year sees Europe bring in the entry-exit scheme.
00:10So from Sunday, the 12th of October, it will become immediately more complicated to get
00:14into some of the major European destinations.
00:17We don't know yet precisely which ones will bring it in because it's going to be brought
00:21in piecemeal.
00:22So some places in the European Union will become more complicated from a getting through
00:26the airport point of view, and some won't.
00:28So the big trend this autumn is very much going to be people from the UK traveling, trying
00:33to work around that.
00:34And there's lots of things they can do to work around it, but it's going to be quite an unusual
00:38year for travel at the tail end of 2025 because that's going to be the big event.
00:42So is there anywhere particular that people need to be aware of that are going to be implementing
00:46these rules?
00:47Is it everywhere or is it just certain places?
00:50So in the six months from October the 12th, the whole of the EU Schengen zone is going
00:54to be implementing the new EES system.
00:57And that means that each airport that implements it, as they bring it in, you're going to
01:00have to go through the biometric scanners.
01:01You're going to have to do different things with your passport.
01:04But also rather irritating, you're also going to still have to go through the old process
01:08where they manually check and stamp your passport because the whole thing won't be quite finished
01:12yet.
01:13The probably what's going to happen because of that is people are going to try and avoid
01:16all of that and go to different places.
01:18If you're planning a winter getaway in 2025, travel experts recommend booking your flights
01:24and accommodation as early as possible to get the best deals.
01:29Demand during the holiday season is high and prices typically rise as peak travel dates approach.
01:35When it comes to choosing a destination, travellers looking for warmer weather may want to consider
01:41winter sun locations such as the Caribbean, Dubai or Hawaii.
01:46For those seeking a snowy escape, winter resorts and mountain destinations remain popular.
01:51If you could tell me anywhere that people are going to want to avoid if they don't want
01:55to be linked to any delays and things like that come holiday season this autumn time.
02:01Well, there's two places that are falling off particularly at the moment.
02:05One is Turkey.
02:06Turkey has been a massive place for budget holidays over the last five years, but mostly that was
02:10because it was very cheap to go there.
02:12They're now experiencing a period of pronounced inflation, so Turkey is becoming a lot more expensive
02:16and it's probably a lot less attractive for UK holidaymakers.
02:20But the other place that people are avoiding and they tell us they're avoiding is the USA.
02:2427% of UK holidaymakers say that they'll avoid America while Trump's in charge.
