Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's 2-1 defeat against Arsenal at St James' Park. Late goals from Gabriel and Mikel Merino overturned a first-half strike from Nick Woltemade to give Mikel Arteta's side all three points at St James' Park.

00:00So, Newcastle United 1, Arsenal 2, what can you say about that game?
00:08I mean, anyhow, Miguel Arteta sides every time they come up against each other,
00:11it's always feisty, it's always full-blooded, it's always actually really interesting
00:14and that game was certainly no different.
00:16Newcastle United would leave gutted that they haven't taken all three points,
00:20of course he led till the 85th minute, gutted that they haven't got a point
00:24and, you know, they'll be watching other teams pick up wins,
00:28they'll be watching themselves not pick up wins here at St James' Park.
00:31I know that two of their three games so far here have been against Liverpool and Arsenal,
00:36you know, last season's top two, but they'll be disappointed not to have anything
00:39and really starting to worry about letting their European rivals start to build a little bit of a gap.
00:44Now, the game started with Newcastle United, weather and a bit of a storm,
00:47Arsenal were really good at the beginning of the game, I think.
00:50It was a surprise to see, anyhow, go with what everyone thought was going to be a back five at first,
00:55when they lined up, but then initially they lined up with the back four,
00:58Dan Burnett left-back.
01:00It's fair, I think Eddie Howe probably got that right in the balance of play,
01:03I know that they were under the caution a little bit in the first half,
01:06but I think overall that the balance of the team was okay defensively anyway.
01:11They limited also to not much, Nick Pope made a couple of good saves,
01:15and they took the lead through Nick Valtomada with the header.
01:19It was a bit of against the runner player, but it was a lovely cross by Sandro Tonali
01:22and a really good header from Valtomada.
01:23Gabriel was weak in the challenge and against the runner player, Newcastle 1-0 ahead.
01:27Now, just before that, of course, Arsenal thought they had a penalty and a chance to break the deadlock
01:32when Nick Pope fouled Victor Jokerez.
01:34Now, Jokerez nipped in on a loose back pass from Jacob Murphy,
01:37took a touch and what it looked like was then fouled by Nick Pope,
01:42but replays in the VAR showed that Nick Pope got a tiny touch on the ball.
01:46Jared Gillett was sent to the monitor and after a big delay and a long reflection,
01:50he decided that that wasn't a penalty and it started with a drop ball that caused a lot of debate.
01:55Miguel Arteta was furious about the decision.
01:57He was very animated at the touchline all game, really, but particularly after that call.
02:01I think it's caused division in between hundreds when they talked about it,
02:05but Newcastle United, as I said, made the most of that opportunity to sort of stay level
02:10and then went 1-0 ahead.
02:12And then 40 minutes of the second half at the 85th minute,
02:15they're 1-0 up and you're thinking, right, can they hold on for another win?
02:18You know, Arteta doesn't like it seeing James' Park.
02:21Yes, he had ahead of this game, lost three in a row here,
02:25but Miguel Moreno against his old team flicked on ahead.
02:28It was a lovely little head-out, it was fair.
02:30Came off the base of the post, Nick Pope couldn't react and asked him a level.
02:33That goal was proceeded about ten minutes before,
02:36but with Tino Livermento getting injured,
02:38it looks a really bad injury for Livermento.
02:39He was stretched off.
02:40Of course, he has history with a knee injury
02:42and it looked like a knee injury as well.
02:43Eddie Howe couldn't really see anything too much after the game about that.
02:46So, it'll be interesting whatever happens with that.
02:49Hopefully, Livermento will be fine because he'll be a big player to miss
02:52if he has to miss any length of time,
02:53especially not just now with club football,
02:56but with England action and, of course, in the World Cup,
02:58it's a serious injury.
03:00So, fingers crossed for Livermento, that's not a bad injury.
03:03But as I said, Moreno scored there.
03:05Then, Ugasso thought they had a penalty of their own
03:07when Anthony Lange crossed the ball to hit off Gabriel.
03:11Now, when Gabriel's hand is up like this,
03:13I think everyone on the ground thought it was a penalty.
03:15We, in the press box, certainly didn't.
03:16Even on the replays thought it was a penalty.
03:18The official explanation from the Premier League on that
03:20is that it flicked off the leg of Gabriel onto the arm.
03:23So, you can see why that's not being given.
03:24I think that if that is the reasoning
03:26and if it does flick off the leg, then fair play.
03:28As I said, right now, I haven't seen another replay
03:31and the replays that we've seen have been really inconclusive,
03:33but that was a big flash point.
03:35And then, I also go down the other end and score from a set piece.
03:38Gabriel, of course, had to be him.
03:40Gets in ahead of the defenders and, yeah, they score.
03:43It was a disappointing afternoon for Eddie Howe's side.
03:45They'll be really disappointed if they haven't won.
03:47And it just ramps up the pressure.
03:49They've got to go to Belgium, to Union Saint-Jean was.
03:51In midweek, it's going to be their first home game of the Champions League.
03:54They've got to go and get a point, certainly.
03:56They've got to go and win.
03:57You know, a fellow pot-four team away.
03:58They've got to go and win that game.
03:59And then, they've got Nottingham Forest here next week.
04:01And now, they beat Sunderland.
04:03Nottingham Forest weren't very good in that game.
04:04Sunderland didn't have to be very good to win that game.
04:06But if they don't win that, then there's massive pressure on Eddie Howe.
04:09You know, they're six points from six games.
04:11You can sort of forgive them the first three games
04:13because they had the whole Alexander Ezek situation to deal with.
04:15And a win, a defeat and a draw against Arsenal, Bournemouth and Wolves since then,
04:19it's an OK return.
04:20But they can't afford OK returns if they want to be back in the Champions League come May.
04:24So, they've got to start winning games.
04:25They've got to do that in midweek.
04:27And this would have been a perfect day.
04:29Certainly, they would have wanted not to get beat yet.
04:32But if you're leading at the 85th minute, it's going to rank us.
04:34So, yeah.
04:35Big Aston United.
04:36Leave here.
04:372-1.
04:38Losers.
04:39Without a win again.
04:40And, yeah.
04:41Pressure just beginning to build yet again ahead of those two games
04:44against Union Central was.
04:45And not the Forest.
04:46And not the Forest.
