Ready for the ultimate weekend paper project?
In this mega-clear, beginner-friendly video I walk you through every single fold, crease and pinch needed to turn one sheet of A4 paper into a mind-blowing “magic ball” – a springy, squashy, self-closing 3D sphere that flattens into a pancake, stretches into a stick, then bounces back to round in seconds.
No prior origami skills needed.
I slow down the tricky parts, show close-ups of mountain/valley switches, explain the logic behind each pleat and even share my secret tape trick that locks the ball forever without ruining the flex.
By the end you will have:
a satisfying desk toy that never gets old
the skills to resize the ball with any 2:1 paper
bragging rights among friends who think origami is “just cranes”
Grab some printer paper, a bit of clear tape, hit play and let’s fold the most addictive fidget on the planet!Drop photos of your finished balls in the comments – I feature the coolest ones in the next video.

00:00Hey everyone, how is it going? We folded one of these magic balls before, remember?
00:06The one you can squish however you want. But that version was super simple.
00:11It had fewer units and felt like a warm-up. I gave you that one just to practice.
00:18Today we are making the pro version.
00:20Same crazy magic ball. Way more fun to fidget with. You can squeeze it into a stick,
00:29flatten it into a pancake, or puff it into a sphere.
00:39Alright, enough talking, let's fold. To make this magic ball, grab one A4 sheet.
00:45First we need to trim it to a 2 to 1 rectangle. Here is how.
00:59I will show you again real quick. Fold the short edge to the short edge to find the center.
01:10Now take the right edge and bring it to that center crease.
01:13But only pinch tiny marks at the top and bottom. Do not crease all the way.
01:23Just gentle dots, like this.
01:28Next fold the bottom edge up to those little marks.
01:31Use your finger to sweep the excess paper flat.
01:33Cut or tear off the strip at the bottom.
01:52Now we have a perfect 2 to 1 sheet.
01:54Give it a quarter turn so the long side is horizontal, easier to work with.
02:03We are going to pleat 32 equal stripes this way.
02:07Start with a simple book fold, then quarters, eighths, keep halving.
02:11Keep halving.
02:25Now we split it into eighths.
02:28Fold to the base pleat each time.
02:30First fold to crease number 1, then to crease number 3.
02:33Why skip 2? You will see in a second.
02:39When you fold you will notice.
02:41Crease 2 is already there from the quarter fold.
02:45Once you fold you will see it is already done.
02:52After eighths we go to sixteenths.
02:53Same idea, fold to the base pleats.
03:01I will speed up this part.
03:09Sixteenths done, now we do 30 seconds.
03:12To go fast we use accordion style.
03:16Mountain valley, mountain valley, back and forth.
03:19Like miss, fold back.
03:26Fold forward.
03:29Keep going to the end.
03:40Keep going to the end.
03:44Okay, 30 seconds done.
04:05Open the sheet fully.
04:12Now we do 16 pleats the other way.
04:14Same method as before.
04:21Halves, quarters, eighths are just valley folds.
04:25For the final sixteenths we use accordion style like a fan.
04:33Start with half.
04:34We can do it bit by bit.
04:37Because the paper is long.
04:40Align little by little.
04:44After quarters we go to sixteenths.
04:57I said it before, accordion style.
05:03Like folding a fan.
05:08After quarters we go to sixteenths.
05:12I said it before, accordion style.
05:14I said it before.
05:15Like folding a fan.
05:16I said it before.
05:32Open it all up.
05:33Now you see a grid of 32 by 16 tiny squares.
05:38Next we work from top to bottom, first four rows.
05:48Row one, mountain.
05:50Row two, valley.
05:53Row three, mountain again.
05:54Row four, valley again.
05:56Then we close it up from left to right.
06:01Just like this.
06:05Keep folding to the end.
06:07Let us look at the cross section.
06:29It splits like this.
06:30Two layers apart from two layers.
06:32Looks like an M.
06:33Slide all the way.
06:36Open the top layer.
06:42Look, we add a diagonal in this small square.
06:50Hinch inside.
06:53Then along the square we add one diagonal.
06:55Then the other diagonal crease.
06:57You will see the two diagonals meet at one corner.
07:05First a mountain.
07:06Then a raised trifold.
07:08Let us watch again.
07:12See.
07:13Pinch here.
07:15The back looks like this.
07:16The.
07:22It turns into a shape like this.
07:23Just like this.
07:27All right.
07:28Then, same thing on this side.
07:31We pinch again, both diagonals.
07:38Looks like this.
07:39This is what we called the outer crease last time when we folded the magic ball.
07:43If my explanation does an Aragonect T makes sense.
07:50Just watch my hands and copy the moves.
07:52It Aragonect S actually super easy to get.
07:55You just push this line up from here.
07:59Right here.
08:00Then make this diagonal.
08:01And this one too.
08:04Pinch like that.
08:05Done.
08:08Keep going with this method all the way to the end.
08:11When we finish, it looks like an L.
08:33Like this.
08:34Cool.
08:37Now check this out.
08:38We still have another layer of paper.
08:41Open that layer up like this.
08:46Then push from here.
08:49Gather the rectangle inward.
08:52Just like this.
08:55Like this.
08:56Give it a squeeze.
08:58We adjust the direction of the crease below.
09:02Mountain becomes valley.
09:03Valley becomes mountain.
09:05Let me say that again.
09:06When I have time, I will make a whole video explaining mountain, valley, and basic origami tricks.
09:15Stay tuned for that.
09:17Now we fold this rectangle.
09:18Like this.
09:19Soot.
09:25There is a diagonal right here.
09:28Look.
09:29Right here.
09:29Same thing on this side.
09:32Fold it in.
09:49That.
09:50Fold it in.
09:51Now look.
09:52This ball is made of star grid units.
09:54There is a diagonal plus a cross crease.
10:00What a.
10:01Push a square out here.
10:04Then squeeze these two sides in.
10:07Same thing.
10:07Then we fix the crease below.
10:09See.
10:10This crease is pointing down.
10:13We flip it to point up.
10:14That is a trifold.
10:16This crease is pointing up.
10:19We need to make it point down.
10:20A mountain.
10:21Huh?
10:22First we flip the down crease to up.
10:24Like this.
10:24Then.
10:30Then tuck it inside again.
10:33Now the bottom crease naturally becomes mountain.
10:36And.
10:37Okay.
10:38Now we stack these star creases like this.
10:47Once it's stacked.
10:51It naturally forms a star unit.
10:57Let us do one more.
11:00Look.
11:00Pull the star crease open like this.
11:02Then squeeze it in like this.
11:09Now fix the crease below.
11:14These steps are a bit tricky.
11:16If you are lost.
11:17Leave a comment or DM me.
11:19I got you.
11:25Also.
11:26Feel free to post your own video on by literally or send it to me.
11:29I love seeing your work.
11:32I love seeing your work.
11:34Look.
11:35Squeeze like this.
11:37Then tidy up the crease below like this.
11:51See the star crease here.
11:53Got it?
11:58Exactly like that.
12:00Keep going with this method to the end.
12:09Same thing when you reach here.
12:10Let us check.
12:12Here we have two.
12:14We overlap these two just like before.
12:17Same as squeezing we did earlier.
12:19I did the same full before.
12:33Okay.
12:33We flip the crease direction again.
12:35See, it just pops in by itself.
12:49See, it just pops in by itself.
12:56And when you finish it looks like this.
13:11All right, next we stretch out the bottom layer.
13:15Just like this.
13:18Take these two bata rows.
13:26And we overlap them upward.
13:27Lock them together.
13:45From here, little by little, we fold them back and overlap.
13:48Once that is done, you will see a new set of creases underneath, right?
14:13This is just repeating the same unit over and over.
14:22Like this.
14:22Now we open it up again.
14:24This time we are not pushing a small rectangle.
14:28We are pushing a full square.
14:33You can see, before it was a rectangle with two lines inside.
14:37But now it is a full star grid unit.
14:39So these are arranged in a staggered pattern.
14:45The top has small rectangles stacked.
14:47Here we have a full star unit.
14:49Below that, it goes back to small rectangles again.
14:52That is the rhythm we follow.
14:54Same as before, we squeeze both sides in first.
14:57Flip the crease direction.
15:00Then we set up the star and the creases.
15:05Like this, squeeze inward.
15:10Flip it over and you get the shape.
15:24Now we keep going.
15:26Same thing here.
15:34Squeeze it in.
15:35Then flip the crease direction here.
15:45Squeeze it.
15:55And it pops right in.
15:56And it pops right in.
16:04This is just repeating the same fold.
16:09Except the first one.
16:11The rest are all the same.
16:26Same on this side.
16:27Star grid and creases.
16:28Fold it like this.
16:46Fold it like this.
16:53And that is it.
16:53Now we do the same.
16:59Stretch out the two bottom rows of squares.
17:05Overlap them.
17:15See, we still have two rows, right?
17:17Just overlapped them.
17:18Actually, this brings us back to the first row fold.
17:24Same as the very first row we did.
17:26We overlap them here.
17:29Like this.
17:31Overlap the two first.
17:33Adjust the bottom creases.
17:35Then overlap them again like this.
17:41Then overlap them again like this.
17:50And that is it.
17:55Just overlap it to the center line.
18:08Just like that.
18:11Here we are back to the star grid.
18:13Star grid creases.
18:21The shorter the bottom creases, the easier the star grid is to handle.
18:27The folding down here is all the same.
18:30Just keep going like this.
18:35Follow this pattern until the whole sheet is done.
18:38See, it looks like pineapple skin, right?
18:42After, it is all folded.
18:45Okay, let us take a look.
18:47When it is finished, you can see it looks like an L, right?
18:52Now we handle the last row.
18:57Same as before, open up the bottom paper layer.
19:02Overlap it to the top.
19:05Go little by little here.
19:06Be gentle.
19:09If you pull too hard, the paper will tear.
19:13You will rip it.
19:20Just like this.
19:23Same thing, overlap them together.
19:29Once they are overlapped, we are back to the first row folding method.
19:33It is a Y-shaped unit again.
19:37Let us check, open this up.
19:41First we fold the smallest diagonal of this square inward like this.
19:45Like, miss.
19:52Then we do the same thing.
19:56See, push here, squeeze it inside.
20:03What?
20:04Same as the previous row we did.
20:19Okay, this side is done.
20:24Now let us take a look.
20:26Over here.
20:28Right here.
20:30We fold a diagonal of this small square.
20:32Fold it in like this.
20:40Then we fold every single one like this.
20:42Fold this diagonal and the other diagonal.
20:47Like this.
20:48You can pop it up a little here.
20:53Then we do this diagonal.
20:56Hit!
20:56What?
21:01Bring them together.
21:02Like this.
21:04But, keep folding the rest the same way.
21:15Okay, this side is finished.
21:23Okay, this side is finished.
21:25Same fold on this side.
21:28This time we skip folding the diagonal.
21:30We just push straight in.
21:33Same as what we just did.
21:35Push in.
21:40Like this.
21:52Good.
21:53Now the whole origami part of the magic ball is finished.
22:00Next, we open up this layer like this.
22:05Do not worry during this step.
22:09We still have the creases to guide us.
22:12We can collapse it back easily.
22:17Same on this side.
22:35Now we grab some clear tape.
22:41Tear off a piece.
22:43We need to cut this part off here.
22:51Tear off a strip that is long enough.
22:55This much will definitely do.
22:57We stick it on the inside here.
23:05Right like this.
23:08Do not put it on the outside.
23:10Keep it inside.
23:11Just like this.
23:12Place it right here.
23:17Apply it bit by bit.
23:18Keep it neat.
23:19Stick it on the inside.
23:28We trim off the extra part.
23:41Now the tape is in place.
23:52Next we overlap the sections like this.
23:57Stick them together little by little.
23:59Use your finger to press from below.
24:17Keep the edges lined up neatly.
24:19We can tape both sides first like this.
24:40Once taped, it looks like this.
24:42There is a seam running down the middle.
24:44Let us tidy up the tape line.
24:46Pinch it up like this first.
24:55Like this.
24:55Give it a squeeze here too.
24:58Good.
24:59Now flatten it back down.
25:03Next we need to collapse it back along the old creases.
25:08See?
25:08Can you spot it?
25:09These folds are clearly pointing down.
25:12We can do it like this.
25:14Pinch like this.
25:16Ring them together.
25:17Like that.
25:17See?
25:22Okay.
25:23Let us see how to collapse these star grids back.
25:27We can squeeze it like this first.
25:36Little by little.
25:37Or just follow the creases and push it back in.
25:40I do not even know how to explain it anymore.
25:42Just follow the creases and push it back like this.
26:02Just like I did, ease it back in bit by bit.
26:05Wherever there is tape, give it an extra squeeze like this.
26:13Same on this side.
26:14Let us open it up and check.
26:24Let us open it up and check.
26:26Give it a little squeeze like this.
26:28And there you go, a super fun magic ball is finished.
26:41Sometimes this part will pop in, that is normal.
26:49Just make sure the taped seams are neat and tidy.
26:52That is it for today.
27:00See you next time.
