00:00The saying goes Australia was built on the sheep's back, but could they play a central
00:07role in the Brisbane Olympics in 2032?
00:10I've always loved shearing and I thought, I saw some of the sports at the Olympics a
00:16year ago and I thought, you know, we can do better than this.
00:19This 16 year old is so passionate about shearing, she wants a given Olympic recognition.
00:25And I think shearing is just a really hard sport as well and it's not recognised enough
00:29as well.
00:30Kaylee Sander grew up in the WA town of Catanning.
00:33We have the largest sheep yards in the southern hemisphere and lots of Kaylee's friends, their
00:39parents work in the sheep industry, her grandparents produced meat lambs for Whamco.
00:46A petition backing shearing as an Olympic sport has attracted more than 500 signatures so
00:51far.
00:52It's probably not a bad idea, at least we could try.
00:55If they can put stuff like breakdancing in the Olympics, there's a lot of work and effort
01:03goes into shearing and there's nationals and world championship shearing at the moment.
01:10Experts say it's unlikely to become a medal sport, but could still have a role in the 2032
01:14games.
01:15Maybe they could set up a sheep's shearing stage there and showcase it at something
01:21in the cultural program.
01:22A decision on what sports are included in the Brisbane Olympics is expected next year.
01:27In the meantime, Kaylee Sander is focusing on developing her own shearing skills.
01:31I haven't shown a whole sheep yet, but I'll learn how to do that next year, hopefully.
01:35there's a lot, and I'll learn how to do that next year.
01:37In total, I'm not sure how to do that last year.
01:38Because you're in a large group, I'm not sure how to do that.
01:39I work with the500 people in thequent.
01:40I've seen people in Seven years old, in the middle, Fimulist and thende B-Joyle, and the
01:41new year.
