QLD government to reveal 2032 Brisbane Olympics stadium tomorrow

The Queensland government is set to finally reveal the location of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic games stadium tomorrow after years of debate.

00:00This has been a long-awaited announcement here in Queensland.

00:06It's been a little over two weeks since the State Government first received this independent

00:09100-day review into Olympic and Paralympic infrastructure for the 2032 Games.

00:15And really as part of this proposal it will include not only the locations of these stadiums,

00:20where the athletes are going to be held, as well as where exactly the improvements for

00:25pre-existing infrastructure will be.

00:27But really this stadium stoush has turned into a highly controversial topic here in

00:31Queensland.

00:32It even became a key election issue last year at the state election.

00:36And this 100-day review was actually ordered by the LNP and delivered as a pre-election

00:40promise.

00:41Now while those details about what exactly this proposal will contain have been fairly

00:45few and vague, what we do have is the suggestion that there could be potentially a Gabba rebuild.

00:51However this would effectively mean that major sporting codes, including the Brisbane Lions

00:56as well as the Queensland Cricket, could be displaced.

00:59There's also been the suggestion that an entirely new stadium could be built, Victoria Park

01:03being earmarked as that location.

01:05However that would mean that the State Government would be going backwards on a pre-election

01:10promise not to deliver any new stadiums.

01:13Now one thing that we do know for certain, the Deputy Premier, Jarrod Blaise, spoke to

01:16the media yesterday and confirmed that there would be no Queensland Sport and Athletics

01:20Centre, or QSAC as it's known here in Queensland, which was originally the venue set to host

01:25the athletics.

01:26That's completely been canned from the possible plans.

01:29He's also committed to making sure that the funding for these venues will be capped at

01:33that $7.1 billion funding packet.

01:36So lots there still to unpack, but effectively today is all about logistics.

01:40The Deputy Premier will be joined alongside the Minister of the Paralympic and Olympic

01:45Games, Tim Mander, where they'll be presenting this proposal to the frontbench.

01:50And once it receives that tick of approval from Cabinet, we are expecting an official

01:54announcement to be made sometime tomorrow, but effectively there should be a lot of fallout

01:58and reaction, particularly amongst those key stakeholders here in Queensland.
