00:00
Straight afternoon here at the Botford Stadium, what was your take on the game?
00:04
Two different halves, I think that we wasn't present in the first half, we didn't turn up.
00:13
In the second half we were really good, missed some massive chances to draw the game if not win it.
00:23
But it's easy playing, catch up when you're 2-0 down, I think it's easy.
00:29
I think that we wasn't present in the first half at all, I thought we were too slow with the ball.
00:35
We worked on their defensive shape all week about how they'd block up and one thing I said,
00:43
literally before they went out was to move the ball really quickly, but we were so slow with the ball.
00:52
And then it kind of eats into what they want to do, they want to slow things down,
00:56
they want to take their time with goal kicks, they want to take their time with throw-ins and all that,
00:59
and then we're slow with the ball, so then it becomes a frustrating afternoon for everybody watching.
01:04
And then obviously the goals are just so poor.
01:10
And then I say a few choice words at half-time, wherever we go, second half we look brilliant, second half.
01:16
And I've just said to the players, we can't win a game of football at this level playing half a game,
01:20
you're just not going to win anything, you've got to play for 90 minutes, if not 95, 96, sometimes longer.
01:29
And we just wasn't present in the first half, we were just out there, just passing it from left to right.
01:36
We had no movement, no guile, no want-willing determination to try and score or create.
01:44
I thought Harry Forster, when he'd come on, looked a bright spark, he was the only player for me.
01:50
Yeah, just wasted half a game.
01:53
Is there anything you can sort of put the slow start down to, because as you say, you prepare a week,
01:58
and then when it comes to the match, that's the first thing you want to see, isn't it?
02:01
But do you think it was a lack of confidence based on last week's result?
02:04
Nothing to do with confidence, I think it's to do with the fact that they blocked in really deep,
02:08
and defensively they looked solid.
02:14
Sometimes when that happens, you have to move the ball quicker, and we were just too slow with it.
02:19
We didn't have, I showed a clip at half-time of an action, we had the ball for, I don't know, maybe 20 passes,
02:27
but within that 20 passes, there wasn't one player making a run forward.
02:32
It was just play sideways, backwards, back in, sideways, backwards, back in,
02:37
and then we played round, and then everybody coming towards the ball and not running the other way,
02:42
and trying to disrupt their back line.
02:44
It was just safe football, and when you're playing safe football,
02:48
you're not going to score goals, you've got to risk one or two.
02:51
And then what happens is, you end up playing so pedestrian,
02:54
and then you end up forcing one, because the crowd kind of feel it,
02:58
that we've got to do something, then we force one,
03:00
the keeper comes and claims it, and then we ain't got the ball again for five or six minutes.
03:03
And that's how I felt the first half went.
03:06
Second half, we were completely in charge of the game,
03:08
but it's difficult breaking that down, a Barra team,
03:14
you know, when you're nil-nil, no matter what, two-nil down.
03:16
So we give ourselves too much of a mountain to climb.
03:19
Yeah, you mentioned it already, but I suppose the frustration that you build
03:22
is when you consider the amount of chances we had in the second half,
03:25
as you say, to not only equalise, but potentially win the game on another day
03:27
that we'd probably walk away with four or five goals, don't we?
03:31
Yeah, but I'm sick of saying that, certainly this season.
03:36
I don't understand how some of them goals don't go in.
03:40
I think we need probably somebody to come in and bless the goal mouth or something,
03:44
I don't know, because it just seems to me as if they're just not going in.
03:47
Even in the first half, there's a massive chance they'll come off the post.
03:50
If it had been the promotion winning season, that would have gone in.
03:53
It just feels to me as if everything's going against us in front of goal.
03:58
That's how I feel.
03:59
I feel like, you know, I feel as if there's an invisible brick wall
04:03
stopping the ball good in the net.
04:07
Yeah, we created so many chances, but we wasn't present in the first half,
04:11
so we basically only played half a game, so we didn't deserve to win the game.
04:15
Yeah, and the players seeing that with the amount of chances that we're creating
04:18
and it not going in, it must eat away at them as, you know,
04:20
the clock ticks down slowly and slowly, that, you know,
04:23
they must start thinking, is the ball ever going to go in the back of the net,
04:25
which obviously doesn't help either.
04:26
Yeah, but you've got to be like McCurdy was last week when he missed the chance.
04:32
Like some might say, it was an open goal.
04:38
I think the keeper took a little bit of a deflection on it.
04:43
But McCurdy just carries on going because in a minute he knows he's going to get another chance
04:46
and we've got to carry on being like that.
04:49
We've just got to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down, run back and get ready for the next one.
04:53
We've just got to keep going.
04:57
But regardless, we didn't play a game of football today.
05:01
We played half the game.
05:02
So we're not going to get what we want from any game if we're only prepared to turn up for half of it.
05:09
Thanks.
05:10
We didn't see any changes in the second half.
05:12
Is that because you had so much momentum?
05:13
We were playing so well.
05:14
We didn't need to.
05:15
I didn't think I should have made probably changes in the first 20 minutes.
05:20
Yeah.
05:21
But the second half didn't warrant any changes for me because we were so on top
05:25
and everyone was playing so well, in my opinion.
05:29
I don't think there was anybody out there that wasn't playing well.
05:33
Everybody was playing well.
05:34
So I thought, well, it's going to be harsh if I take somebody off at this moment
05:37
because they're all knocking the door down.
05:40
So there was no reason for me to make changes.
05:42
I should have made probably five changes in the first half.
05:44
Yeah.
05:44
If the truth be known.
05:45
But, you know, you see my point, right?
05:47
Yeah, I know.
05:48
Absolutely.
05:48
I'm not disputing it.
05:49
I was just asking because it's rare you don't see changes in the second half.
05:52
I thought the same.
05:53
I thought, well, I said to Jamie and to Neil Smith, my two assistants,
05:59
is there any changes?
06:00
They're like, no.
06:02
We're flying.
06:03
We're on top.
06:03
If we make a change, it might slow the momentum down, if anything,
06:08
and change the pace of the game.
06:09
Just carry on.
06:10
And I agreed.
06:12
And you're right.
06:13
You don't usually see that, especially when you're losing.
06:15
But I didn't think there was any need.
06:18
And obviously you were forced into that early change.
06:20
Is there any news on Addy?
06:21
Or is it too early?
06:21
Yeah, too early.
06:22
I kind of don't know.
06:24
Obviously, yeah.
06:25
Bit of a shame, though.
06:26
Yeah, bit of a shame.
06:27
Because he's had a really good start to the season, Addy.
06:30
He's a threat.
06:32
Well, I thought Harry forced to come on.
06:33
And I thought he was potentially our best player in the first half.
06:36
Yeah.
06:36
And then obviously continued that in the second half as well.
06:39
Put a lot of crosses in.
06:40
I thought he looked a danger all game.
06:42
Yeah.
06:42
And obviously we had the conversation about goalkeepers a couple of weeks back.
06:46
I was dreading bringing this up.
06:48
But any news on that?
06:50
And how is his finger?
06:51
Because it looked quite heavily strapped.
06:53
Yeah.
06:54
It's probably, again, too early to say.
06:56
But, yeah.
06:57
I knew he'd come back and kick me in the teeth eventually.
07:01
But, yeah.
07:02
I think fair play to the kid because he's carried on.
07:04
Yeah.
07:06
And, yeah.
07:07
I said to him at half-time,
07:09
I'm proud of you for, you know,
07:11
to continue with, you know, an injury like that.
07:14
So, I don't know.
07:15
It's too early to probably say how bad it is
07:17
or what it is really, you know.
07:20
But fair play to him.
07:21
Yeah.
07:21
And at the end there,
07:22
it seemed a little bit tense between you and there.
07:24
Was there some words between you and the crowd or not?
07:28
Yeah.
07:29
I kind of went over and clapped and none of them did.
07:31
So, I was like,
07:32
come on, you can see where to go in that second half clap, please.
