00:00Straight afternoon here at the Botford Stadium, what was your take on the game?
00:04Two different halves, I think that we wasn't present in the first half, we didn't turn up.
00:13In the second half we were really good, missed some massive chances to draw the game if not win it.
00:23But it's easy playing, catch up when you're 2-0 down, I think it's easy.
00:29I think that we wasn't present in the first half at all, I thought we were too slow with the ball.
00:35We worked on their defensive shape all week about how they'd block up and one thing I said,
00:43literally before they went out was to move the ball really quickly, but we were so slow with the ball.
00:52And then it kind of eats into what they want to do, they want to slow things down,
00:56they want to take their time with goal kicks, they want to take their time with throw-ins and all that,
00:59and then we're slow with the ball, so then it becomes a frustrating afternoon for everybody watching.
01:04And then obviously the goals are just so poor.
01:10And then I say a few choice words at half-time, wherever we go, second half we look brilliant, second half.
01:16And I've just said to the players, we can't win a game of football at this level playing half a game,
01:20you're just not going to win anything, you've got to play for 90 minutes, if not 95, 96, sometimes longer.
01:29And we just wasn't present in the first half, we were just out there, just passing it from left to right.
01:36We had no movement, no guile, no want-willing determination to try and score or create.
01:44I thought Harry Forster, when he'd come on, looked a bright spark, he was the only player for me.
01:50Yeah, just wasted half a game.
01:53Is there anything you can sort of put the slow start down to, because as you say, you prepare a week,
01:58and then when it comes to the match, that's the first thing you want to see, isn't it?
02:01But do you think it was a lack of confidence based on last week's result?
02:04Nothing to do with confidence, I think it's to do with the fact that they blocked in really deep,
02:08and defensively they looked solid.
02:14Sometimes when that happens, you have to move the ball quicker, and we were just too slow with it.
02:19We didn't have, I showed a clip at half-time of an action, we had the ball for, I don't know, maybe 20 passes,
02:27but within that 20 passes, there wasn't one player making a run forward.
02:32It was just play sideways, backwards, back in, sideways, backwards, back in,
02:37and then we played round, and then everybody coming towards the ball and not running the other way,
02:42and trying to disrupt their back line.
02:44It was just safe football, and when you're playing safe football,
02:48you're not going to score goals, you've got to risk one or two.
02:51And then what happens is, you end up playing so pedestrian,
02:54and then you end up forcing one, because the crowd kind of feel it,
02:58that we've got to do something, then we force one,
03:00the keeper comes and claims it, and then we ain't got the ball again for five or six minutes.
03:03And that's how I felt the first half went.
03:06Second half, we were completely in charge of the game,
03:08but it's difficult breaking that down, a Barra team,
03:14you know, when you're nil-nil, no matter what, two-nil down.
03:16So we give ourselves too much of a mountain to climb.
03:19Yeah, you mentioned it already, but I suppose the frustration that you build
03:22is when you consider the amount of chances we had in the second half,
03:25as you say, to not only equalise, but potentially win the game on another day
03:27that we'd probably walk away with four or five goals, don't we?
03:31Yeah, but I'm sick of saying that, certainly this season.
03:36I don't understand how some of them goals don't go in.
03:40I think we need probably somebody to come in and bless the goal mouth or something,
03:44I don't know, because it just seems to me as if they're just not going in.
03:47Even in the first half, there's a massive chance they'll come off the post.
03:50If it had been the promotion winning season, that would have gone in.
03:53It just feels to me as if everything's going against us in front of goal.
03:58That's how I feel.
03:59I feel like, you know, I feel as if there's an invisible brick wall
04:03stopping the ball good in the net.
04:07Yeah, we created so many chances, but we wasn't present in the first half,
04:11so we basically only played half a game, so we didn't deserve to win the game.
04:15Yeah, and the players seeing that with the amount of chances that we're creating
04:18and it not going in, it must eat away at them as, you know,
04:20the clock ticks down slowly and slowly, that, you know,
04:23they must start thinking, is the ball ever going to go in the back of the net,
04:25which obviously doesn't help either.
04:26Yeah, but you've got to be like McCurdy was last week when he missed the chance.
04:32Like some might say, it was an open goal.
04:38I think the keeper took a little bit of a deflection on it.
04:43But McCurdy just carries on going because in a minute he knows he's going to get another chance
04:46and we've got to carry on being like that.
04:49We've just got to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down, run back and get ready for the next one.
04:53We've just got to keep going.
04:57But regardless, we didn't play a game of football today.
05:01We played half the game.
05:02So we're not going to get what we want from any game if we're only prepared to turn up for half of it.
05:09Thanks.
05:10We didn't see any changes in the second half.
05:12Is that because you had so much momentum?
05:13We were playing so well.
05:14We didn't need to.
05:15I didn't think I should have made probably changes in the first 20 minutes.
05:20Yeah.
05:21But the second half didn't warrant any changes for me because we were so on top
05:25and everyone was playing so well, in my opinion.
05:29I don't think there was anybody out there that wasn't playing well.
05:33Everybody was playing well.
05:34So I thought, well, it's going to be harsh if I take somebody off at this moment
05:37because they're all knocking the door down.
05:40So there was no reason for me to make changes.
05:42I should have made probably five changes in the first half.
05:44Yeah.
05:44If the truth be known.
05:45But, you know, you see my point, right?
05:47Yeah, I know.
05:48Absolutely.
05:48I'm not disputing it.
05:49I was just asking because it's rare you don't see changes in the second half.
05:52I thought the same.
05:53I thought, well, I said to Jamie and to Neil Smith, my two assistants,
05:59is there any changes?
06:00They're like, no.
06:02We're flying.
06:03We're on top.
06:03If we make a change, it might slow the momentum down, if anything,
06:08and change the pace of the game.
06:09Just carry on.
06:10And I agreed.
06:12And you're right.
06:13You don't usually see that, especially when you're losing.
06:15But I didn't think there was any need.
06:18And obviously you were forced into that early change.
06:20Is there any news on Addy?
06:21Or is it too early?
06:21Yeah, too early.
06:22I kind of don't know.
06:24Obviously, yeah.
06:25Bit of a shame, though.
06:26Yeah, bit of a shame.
06:27Because he's had a really good start to the season, Addy.
06:30He's a threat.
06:32Well, I thought Harry forced to come on.
06:33And I thought he was potentially our best player in the first half.
06:36Yeah.
06:36And then obviously continued that in the second half as well.
06:39Put a lot of crosses in.
06:40I thought he looked a danger all game.
06:42Yeah.
06:42And obviously we had the conversation about goalkeepers a couple of weeks back.
06:46I was dreading bringing this up.
06:48But any news on that?
06:50And how is his finger?
06:51Because it looked quite heavily strapped.
06:53Yeah.
06:54It's probably, again, too early to say.
06:56But, yeah.
06:57I knew he'd come back and kick me in the teeth eventually.
07:01But, yeah.
07:02I think fair play to the kid because he's carried on.
07:04Yeah.
07:06And, yeah.
07:07I said to him at half-time,
07:09I'm proud of you for, you know,
07:11to continue with, you know, an injury like that.
07:14So, I don't know.
07:15It's too early to probably say how bad it is
07:17or what it is really, you know.
07:20But fair play to him.
07:21Yeah.
07:21And at the end there,
07:22it seemed a little bit tense between you and there.
07:24Was there some words between you and the crowd or not?
07:28Yeah.
07:29I kind of went over and clapped and none of them did.
07:31So, I was like,
07:32come on, you can see where to go in that second half clap, please.
