Transcript
00:00All right, let's kick this off. We're at the Hard Rock Artist Lounge at We Can Survive,
00:09presented by Veg ER for Pets. Alex Warren, thank you so much for being here, brother.
00:16It smells like a baseball game here. There's just beer and hot dogs in the back.
00:23My man, so you're on fire right now. All the things, the tour, the album,
00:27Ordinary, You Cannot Get Away From That song. How long did it take you to complete this album,
00:34start to finish? We wrote it for three weeks, four weeks, so in a house sporadically throughout the
00:41year. So not too long, honestly, but we were locked in the house together. And that's writing and
00:46recording? Yeah. Oh my goodness, that's fast. Yeah, right? Eternity was just the only one
00:51outlier that we recorded at my house studio. Got you. Were there a lot of songs that didn't make
00:56the cut? Like, how many did you record? No, all of them made the cut. Oh, wow. There was no,
01:01yeah, it was just rare. So every song we wrote went into the album. I love that, man. That is
01:06awesome. We were talking a little bit off mic about just tour life and how you've been adjusting to
01:13that. Was there any worries you had before embarking on this tour? We've been touring since
01:19February, so we've been gone all year. I think the one thing is I just, I don't sleep in my own bed,
01:24which is like, that's the only bad part. But my wife is with me, which is awesome. Yeah.
01:29Yes. Yeah. So it's really, my wife, there seems to be some cover fans around. Yeah. My wife's on
01:35tour with me. So she's, we hang out every day. Oh, I love that. I love that. And it keeps you,
01:40it keeps you grounded. It feels like you're taking home with you. So that's wonderful.
01:43Yeah. Yeah. Do you feel like the, uh, the tour has just like deepened your connection with your
01:50fans and in what ways? Yeah. I think the biggest thing is when you make music, especially, and you
01:55promote it on TikTok, that you don't see people, it's just numbers. And then when you like every
02:00show, no matter what, I don't care how many, I, we just announced an arena tour and I, I will always
02:06be like, are there people here? Did they show up? Yeah. Yeah. And so they're like, yes, Alex,
02:10people showed up. And so it's always terrifying. Like, I'm like, Oh, are people act? Are those
02:13numbers real? And so it's been really cool to be able to meet people and see people and, uh,
02:17cry with people. It's been fun. That's such a good response, man. Cause it is true. We live so
02:22much in that digital world now that when you get out there and you see it, you're like, Oh, this is
02:29real, real. I love it. It's nuts. It's, it's, it's crazy to see like what an app can do, especially
02:35because that's where I came from. That's where I promoted my music. It's, it's so different.
02:39Bro, let's talk about the gift that keeps on giving ordinary man that I, today it just
02:45broke another record. It beat out like ace of base for the most. And as the world record
02:50for the longest number one, I think. Yeah, man. Like a 1994 song that held that title until
02:57you. Yeah. That is huge. It's terrifying. It's so terrifying. I don't, I, I, I don't know
03:04how to feel about it. I mean, listen, bro, you are a singer songwriter through and
03:09through this is going to be one hit of many. So don't worry about anything, but I never
03:14thought I'd have one. So I'm happy if I never have another one, I'm fine. You know, just
03:18one's fine. It was crowned. Um, I think unanimously pretty much by all the major publications song
03:24of the summer. It's just strange. It's a love song. Right. So are you like beach banger vibes
03:31guy or are you happy? Because like, if you go off statistics, bro, I mean, this thing
03:36crushed it in every set, spins, streams, chart wise. So how do you feel with the song of the
03:43summer title? Are you okay with it? I'm okay. I don't think I deserve it. I'm going to be so
03:46honest with you. It's such a, like, I'm very happy with it, but it's something where I'm
03:50like, dang, like that's, I guess people are in love right now. Which is interesting. It's
03:53like, I've just been able to see like a Hulk Hogan died and they use that for his, his,
03:57his, uh, his video and stuff like that. It's been really cool to see people use it just for
04:01different things, you know? Cool. And I'm really stoked that that, that was, you know, people
04:05are using for love songs and weddings and walking down the aisle and memorials. It's really cool.
04:09Yeah. Before we wrap brother, um, Ed Sheeran, your buddy, buddy with him. Listen, are we doing
04:16a song together or what? I would love to. No, but have you discussed it? What kind of
04:21song is it? I email Ed all the time. We're just, we're, we're pen pals. Yeah. I would
04:26love to work with it. I think it's, uh, I, I've brought it up to him. I don't know if
04:30I brought it up to him actually. I would love to do that with him. It's always been a dream
04:33of mine. I feel like you were about to tell me something about to let something slip.
04:37No, I just, I won't shut up. Like that's my problem. Like I, I, I, I wish I could tell
04:42you this is like, I'm pretty sure I email him probably four times a week.
04:46Yeah. Yeah. I'm like that annoying kid that you gave your phone number to and in every
04:50day is texting you going, what's up? You want to hang out? You want to hang out? Let's
04:53do it. And Ed just always goes, cheers, man. I'm sure any one of these people will give
04:59you their phone number and they won't mind if you text them constantly. Uh, give it up
05:03for Alex Warren. Thank you so much, brother.
