00:00This is not only a huge step for our company, but for the entire global media industry.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're breaking down 50 of the most shocking controversies
00:11and disturbing scandals in YouTube history.
00:14Warning, some information contains distressing details.
00:18I've made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgment,
00:23and I don't expect to be forgiven. I'm simply here to apologize.
00:26Troll Station's Art Gallery Heists
00:31Troll Station was a group known for outrageous public pranks,
00:35but in 2015, their antics turned criminal.
00:38You see, the group staged fake art thefts at two major London galleries.
00:44With alarms blaring and actors pretending to be thieves,
00:47legitimate visitors were thrown into chaos.
00:50They called it a, quote, social experiment, but the police didn't see it that way.
00:54Several members of Troll Station were arrested and ultimately served jail time.
01:00Tell them it's a prank.
01:01Tell them it's a...
01:01It was yet another case of YouTube stunts leading to real-world consequences,
01:09and a clear signal that this type of content is not worth the views.
01:13And when you run around the museum with gloves and masks on,
01:17screaming, let's get out of here, it's a robbery, you go to freak a lot of people out.
01:22Vegan Influencer Caught Eating Meat
01:24Rawvana, real name Yovana Mendoza, partially built her online brand by preaching the benefits of veganism.
01:32Your body will love it, and it's the best gift that you can give yourself.
01:37But in 2019, it all imploded.
01:40When another influencer's vlog caught Rawvana at a restaurant,
01:44she was discovered to be eating a plate of fish.
01:46In the clip, Mendoza appears to try and hide her plate when she notices the camera.
01:52Of course, the internet being the internet, pounced hard.
01:55While she later explained she was dealing with health issues and had reintroduced animal products
02:00into her diet, many felt deceived and began spamming her social media with fish images and emojis.
02:07I'm really, really sorry about the way that the news were communicated to you, how you had to find out.
02:16Olivia Jade and the College Admissions Scandal
02:19On the surface, Olivia Jade was just another likable college student
02:23vlogging her dorm life to her sizable following.
02:27This is gonna be so good.
02:29Then the truth came out.
02:31In 2019, her famous parents, Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli,
02:36were charged in the massive Varsity Blues bribery scandal.
02:41Loughlin and her fashion designer husband are accused of paying half a million dollars
02:46to guarantee admission for their two daughters into USC.
02:49It turns out they had paid half a million dollars to falsely present Olivia and her sister
02:54as rowing recruits to get them into USC.
02:57Olivia's channel went quiet, brand deals ended, and when she returned,
03:03it was to an internet that no longer trusted her.
03:06The scandal has since become a symbol of privilege,
03:09showing how much fame and wealth can manipulate a system.
03:13Cry for the camera.
03:14It was in 2021 that beauty and lifestyle vlogger Jordan Cheyenne
03:18crossed a serious ethical line, all in the name of online content.
03:23After revealing her dog was gravely ill,
03:26she promptly filmed a video with her visibly distraught son.
03:30Unfortunately for her,
03:32she also accidentally uploaded footage of herself directing him to pose
03:36and act like he's crying for the thumbnail.
03:39Act like you're crying, really quick.
03:41I am crying.
03:43The video sparked widespread disgust,
03:46with many accusing Jordan of exploiting her son's real emotions for likes.
03:51Look at the camera, look at the camera.
03:53She later apologized and took a break from YouTube,
03:56but the damage was already done.
03:58Ned Fulmer's workplace affair.
04:01It's safe to say that Ned Fulmer,
04:03one-fourth of the popular Try Guys,
04:05was considered the wife guy of the group.
04:07His hat!
04:08His hat!
04:09Hats off to that!
04:11Alas, that image shattered when fans uncovered photos and videos
04:15of Ned kissing Try Guys producer Alexandria Herring,
04:19despite Ned being in a serious relationship at the time.
04:22And with Herring technically being Ned's subordinate,
04:25the situation became a workplace scandal with serious power dynamics involved.
04:30Within days, the Try Guys released a video confirming Ned was stepping away.
04:35We want to give you a timeline of what's transpired and some transparency into our decision making.
04:40Fulmer's reputation was permanently damaged, though,
04:43as the group was forced to carry on and rebuild without him.
04:47But the clock is ticking, so away we go!
04:53Jenna Marbles leaves YouTube.
04:55Jenna Marbles announces her decision to move on from YouTube.
04:58Jenna Marbles was one of the original YouTube sweethearts.
05:01She was largely seen as funny, self-deprecating, and seemingly drama-free.
05:06So when she addressed past racist jokes in a 2020 apology video, fans were quite surprised.
05:13In the video, she explains that some of her viewers requested for her to address past controversies
05:17and apologize for her actions.
05:19And I'm happy to do that, because what I want from the people that I support and that I like
05:25is to have accountability and to know that I'm supporting someone whose morals and values align with my own.
05:33However, no one expected what came next.
05:36Tearfully, Jenna announced that she was leaving the platform entirely.
05:40She cited accountability and remorse over her past content,
05:43which included hurtful stereotypes and offensive skits.
05:47In a sense, she canceled herself.
05:49I think I'm just going to move on from this channel for now.
05:53I don't know if that's forever.
05:54I don't know how long it's going to be.
05:57I'm just...
05:59I want to make sure that the things that I put into the world are not hurting anyone.
06:04While many praised Jenna's maturity,
06:06others mourned what felt like the loss of one of YouTube's last good ones.
06:11Arab Andy's Bomb Threat Livestream.
06:13As we get our first look at the suspect who inspired terror on the UW campus.
06:18Sometimes the line between trolling and terrorism gets dangerously blurred.
06:22And Arab Andy proved just that in an unfortunate 2018 prank.
06:28Real name Jamal Haraz.
06:30The IRL streamer took things much too far when he entered a University of Washington classroom
06:35and triggered a pre-recorded message claiming a bomb had been activated and was about to detonate.
06:41It wasn't real, but the fear it caused certainly was.
06:45As individuals fled in terror, Haraz laughed and continued streaming.
06:51Dude, you cannot get a better reaction to that.
06:53The act led to Haraz being charged with threat to bomb or injure property, not to mention widespread condemnation.
07:00Brooke Houts caught abusing her dog.
07:03In 2019, lifestyle YouTuber Brooke Houts made a horrifying mistake.
07:08She uploaded raw, unedited footage of herself pranking her dog.
07:12But what viewers saw wasn't funny at all.
07:15Brooke Houts is apologizing for a video she shared on YouTube.
07:19In the clip, Houts was seen yelling at, shoving, and even spitting on her Doberman.
07:24The video immediately went viral, with many claiming it was evidence of animal abuse.
07:29Although Houts tried to walk it back with a written apology,
07:32claiming she wasn't abusive and that the footage looked worse than it was, the damage was done.
07:38Houts denies, claims that she abuses animals, and insists her dog was not in pain.
07:43She lost fans, partnerships, and was called out by fellow YouTubers, including Logan Paul.
07:49Sky Does Minecraft Abuse Allegations
07:52At one point, Sky Does Minecraft, real name Adam Dahlberg,
07:57was one of the biggest Minecraft creators on the platform, with millions of subscribers to his channel.
08:03So Adam figured, why not make a mod showcase that actually made people laugh?
08:06And once that was implemented, the rest was history.
08:10But in 2022, that all came crashing down.
08:14Their ex-partner released a scathing open letter, accusing Adam of a staggering pattern of abuse.
08:19Not just against her, but also others in their circle.
08:23Garnering thousands of retweets and impressions,
08:25the scathing iCloud document linked in the tweet provided an insanely detailed,
08:29insanely dark look into the internal hell Liz had been subjected to for the past several years.
08:35As her shocking post went viral,
08:37more voices from Adam's past, including former collaborators and friends,
08:43stepped forward with similar allegations of mistreatment.
08:46They cited narcissistic behavior and volatile outbursts behind the scenes.
08:51I don't feel like going into details,
08:53but one fun situation was when my mom had a heart attack,
08:55and I wanted to go visit her to see if she was okay.
08:58This was one of the many times my loyalty was threatened,
09:01and my job was held over my head because I had more videos to edit.
09:06To say that the Minecraft community was left stunned would be a wee bit of an understatement.
09:11It's Aria's Acid Attack Pranks
09:14In 2018, following a string of violent acid attacks in the UK,
09:18a YouTuber named Aria Masala, known as It's Aria,
09:22tried to chase viral views with a so-called prank.
09:26However, his idea of a joke was anything but a laughing matter.
09:30The media kind of like, um, demonized me.
09:34In his video, Aria approached random people on the street with a cup of liquid and flung it at them,
09:40pretending it was acid.
09:42It was just water, but his victims didn't know that,
09:45and their reactions were sheer panic.
09:49Congratulations to me.
09:51The video sparked outrage and prompted calls for criminal charges,
09:56with Aria insisting it was all just dark humor.
09:59For us to just get taken like that, it's not really, like, fair on me.
10:02Tasha Kay vs. Cardi B
10:04Tasha Kay built a following on YouTube through celebrity gossip,
10:08but her feud with rapper Cardi B landed her in hot water.
10:12In my opinion, I didn't do anything wrong.
10:15I interviewed somebody that she had dealings with.
10:19That girl said a lot of s***, you know.
10:22And to me, it was s***.
10:23And it was right up my alley on my channel.
10:26In 2019, Cardi sued the vlogger for defamation
10:29after Tasha claimed the artist had an STD,
10:32used illegal substances, and was unfaithful.
10:36The lawsuit concluded in 2022,
10:38with Cardi winning a stunning $4 million judgment.
10:42Were you astonished when you ended up losing?
10:44I was surprised, because I was just like...
10:46But I really wasn't surprised,
10:48because the judge had already kept out a lot of stuff,
10:52because everything that I commented on
10:53came out of her mouth.
10:55Tasha later filed for bankruptcy,
10:57seeking to reorganize her finances and pay off her debts.
11:01In 2025, the case finally settled
11:04on a $1.2 million payment plan,
11:07proving that there are indeed consequences
11:09for spreading misinformation on YouTube.
11:11Adam Blampied's Scandals
11:13A leading figure in wrestling commentary on YouTube,
11:16Adam Blampied was first with WhatCulture,
11:19but later left to help startup Cultaholic.
11:22However, just as he and his colleagues launched the new channel,
11:26allegations emerged that Blampied had manipulated fans
11:29into sending him explicit photos.
11:31But just days before the launch of Cultaholic,
11:34Adam Blampied was wrapped up in controversy,
11:36when Adam was accused of abusing his status
11:39to ask for lewd images from women.
11:42Adam responded by admitting to guilt
11:44and submitting to the allegations against him.
11:46He admitted to the misbehavior
11:48and stepped away from public life,
11:50stating he was seeking help.
11:52Though he later returned
11:53for another wrestling YouTube platform,
11:55Blampied was again hit with accusations of misconduct,
11:59reigniting criticism.
12:01This led to another channel exit
12:02and major doubt being cast on his efforts to change.
12:06I'm just not sure that I love wrestling anymore.
12:10Laura Lee's racist tweets.
12:12Beauty guru Laura Lee
12:14experienced a massive fall from grace in 2018,
12:17when her old racist tweets from years past resurfaced.
12:21The backlash was immediate for Lee,
12:23leading to a mass exodus of subscribers
12:26and sponsors cutting ties with her.
12:28I'm only here to say that I'm so sorry.
12:33And I hope one day that you guys
12:36can save me for the woman that I am.
12:41She attempted damage control
12:42with a tearful apology video,
12:44but many viewers questioned her theatrical approach,
12:47even mocking her for appearing to force her emotions.
12:50I can't believe I didn't see the pain
12:54behind that kind of tweet
12:56and that kind of behavior.
13:00Of course, this scandal was just one example
13:02of the behind-the-scenes drama
13:04in the beauty community involving online influencers.
13:07Dar Man actors protest over pay
13:10and working conditions.
13:11Well, stars of a studio with millions of subscribers
13:14on a YouTube channel
13:15say the company has not been acting in good faith.
13:18In February 2023,
13:20Dar Man Studios faced backlash
13:22after multiple actors publicly accused
13:25the company of poor working conditions
13:27and unsustainably low pay.
13:29If you're going to profit off of these morals,
13:31you need to at least give
13:32the people that are working underneath them
13:35the respect of what you're preaching.
13:36Actor Charles Laughlin revealed
13:38that performers requested a meeting with Dar Man
13:40to address concerns,
13:42but Man refused,
13:44allegedly firing actress Jessica Ruth Bell afterward.
13:48Fellow actor Colin Borden claimed
13:50those who spoke out were also quickly let go.
13:53The controversy led to protests outside the studio,
13:57drawing widespread online attention.
13:59There are just basic elements
14:02to running a motion picture company
14:03that are not being met.
14:05Pay is included in that.
14:06Hours are included in that.
14:07Simple fringe things like craft service.
14:11In response,
14:12Dar Man released a video denying the accusations,
14:15stating the actors were spreading false information.
14:18Saying many of the upset actors
14:20haven't even worked with the company in years
14:23and that some spread false information
14:25to hurt the studio, my family, and me.
14:28He further defended the studio's practices
14:30by disclosing their hourly pay rates.
14:33Kian Lawley dropped from The Hate U Give.
14:35YouTuber Kian Lawley hit the big time
14:37when he landed a role in the major motion picture,
14:40The Hate U Give.
14:41No matter how loud we shout,
14:43they refuse to hear us.
14:50Based on the 2017 novel by Angie Thomas,
14:52the impactful story deals directly
14:55with racial injustice and police brutality.
14:58In a case of disastrous timing,
15:00a video from Lawley's past resurfaced
15:03showing him using racial slurs
15:05and making offensive jokes.
15:07But he was fired after an old video
15:09of him saying the N-word
15:10and making other racist comments leaked.
15:13Yikes.
15:13Following the backlash,
15:1520th Century Fox recast his role entirely,
15:18stating that his actions were not in line
15:20with the film's values.
15:22Lawley issued a public apology
15:24and acknowledged that he had grown
15:26since the video was recorded.
15:27My words hurt a lot of people
15:29and it's something I regret 100%.
15:31It's something that I wish I could take back.
15:33I wish I could take back
15:34everything I said completely.
15:37Sam and Nia's controversial pregnancy reveal.
15:40Husband and wife duo Sam and Nia
15:43went viral in 2015
15:44after a surprising video
15:46in which Sam revealed his wife's pregnancy
15:48before she even knew.
15:50No, you didn't.
15:51I didn't.
15:52No way.
15:53Are you serious right now?
15:55No way.
15:57How?
15:58Sam claimed to have secretly tested her urine.
16:01She thinks I'm in here going poop.
16:03Days later,
16:04the couple announced
16:05they had suffered a miscarriage,
16:07but Skeptics Online began questioning
16:09whether the entire ordeal
16:10was staged for attention.
16:12Their response only added fuel to the fire
16:14with Sam declaring,
16:16it was all staged by God.
16:19While the couple denied fabricating the pregnancy,
16:21the scandal showed the dangers
16:23of packaging a personal moment
16:24and possibly manipulating it
16:27for viral content.
16:28And so last summer
16:29when my husband's social media account
16:32involving cheating on your spouse
16:35was brought to light,
16:37it caused a world of chaos and pain for us.
16:41Toy Freaks Shut Down Over Child Endangerment
16:44Greg Chisholm's Toy Freaks channel
16:47amassed around 8 million subscribers
16:49before YouTube pulled the plug in 2017.
16:52The channel featured content
16:53of Chisholm's two young daughters
16:55acting out strange,
16:57often unsettling scenarios.
16:59This included pretending to be babies
17:01or vomiting.
17:03Critics and child protection experts
17:05accused Chisholm of exploiting
17:07his daughters for views,
17:08with others arguing the videos
17:10attracted an inappropriate adult audience.
17:13YouTube removed the channel
17:14after updating its child endangerment policies,
17:17citing clear violations.
17:19YouTube is facing new complaints
17:21from outraged parents
17:22who say its popular YouTube Kids app
17:24allows inappropriate videos
17:25to slip through its filters,
17:27including violence and sexual content,
17:29and children are inadvertently watching them.
17:31The scandal prompted a broader crackdown
17:33on so-called family prank channels,
17:35as well as discussions around parental responsibility
17:38and digital exploitation,
17:41a fatal stunt.
17:42Let's go ahead and show them
17:44what we have in store for our first video.
17:46In one of the most tragic incidents
17:48to ever unfold on YouTube,
17:50Mona Lisa Perez accidentally shot
17:52and killed her boyfriend,
17:54Pedro Ruiz III,
17:55in June of 2017
17:57during a planned stunt for their channel.
17:59She wanted to be a viral YouTube star.
18:02Now this 19-year-old pregnant teenager
18:05is in the national spotlight
18:06for being accused of manslaughter.
18:09The couple hoped to gain views
18:10by performing a risky act.
18:13Perez would fire a gun
18:14at an encyclopedia Ruiz held to his chest,
18:17believing the book would stop the bullet.
18:19It didn't.
18:20Perez, who was pregnant at the time
18:22and just 19 years old,
18:24was charged.
18:25She later pled guilty
18:26to second-degree manslaughter
18:28and was sentenced to six months in jail.
18:31Perez will also not be allowed
18:32to profit from the video
18:34and she is permanently banned,
18:36Amelia, from owning a firearm.
18:38David Dobrik's Vlog Squad Controversies
18:41Once considered one of YouTube's
18:46most wholesome vloggers,
18:47David Dobrik's image took a hit in 2021
18:50amid serious allegations
18:52against members of his vlog squad.
18:54Oh my God!
18:55Oh my God!
18:56Oh my God!
18:58Former collaborator Seth Francois
19:01spoke out saying he was tricked
19:02into a non-consensual kiss
19:04as part of a prank,
19:06while a woman later accused
19:07Dom Zeglitis of indecent assault
19:10during a 2018 shoot
19:11that allegedly involved alcohol.
19:13Many pointed fingers at Dobrik
19:15for enabling a toxic environment
19:17and exploiting situations for views.
19:20The fallout was swift
19:21as Dobrik lost major sponsorships,
19:24including HelloFresh,
19:25and was temporarily demonetized by YouTube.
19:28His comeback has since remained rocky.
19:30I'm so sorry.
19:32And I really let not only you down,
19:35but a lot of people down.
19:36A lot of people that watch me.
19:37Alex Jones banned.
19:39Far-right media personality
19:41and prominent conspiracy theorist Alex Jones
19:44built his YouTube presence off volatile content
19:47under the InfoWars banner.
19:49I don't like him putting chemicals in the water
19:51that turn the friggin' frogs gay!
19:53Despite repeated warnings,
19:55it wasn't until 2018
19:57that YouTube removed several of his videos
19:59for violating policies around hate speech
20:02and child endangerment.
20:04The platform soon followed others
20:05like Facebook and Apple
20:07in banning him entirely.
20:09However,
20:10Jones tried to sidestep the ban
20:11by uploading videos
20:13through a secondary channel,
20:15Resistance News,
20:16which was also taken down.
20:18Years later,
20:19Alex Jones was ordered to pay
20:21over $1 billion in damages
20:23for spreading lies
20:24about the Sandy Hook tragedy.
20:26After a resounding rebuke,
20:28the InfoWars host
20:29was ordered to pay
20:30an additional $45.2 million
20:32in punitive damages
20:34to the parents
20:35of a Sandy Hook shooting victim.
20:37Dylan Birch,
20:38the Disney World danger.
20:40Committing mass atrocities
20:41isn't a concept for comedy,
20:43but a very real fear many have.
20:46Yet in 2018,
20:48Birch decided the situation
20:49was hilarious.
20:51And I want to ask him
20:52why in the world
20:53would he think
20:54this type of prank
20:55is a good idea?
20:57While at the Disney World Resort
20:58in Orlando, Florida,
21:00the YouTuber got intoxicated
21:02and then went around
21:03telling guests
21:04someone was wandering around
21:06with a firearm.
21:07Birch reportedly did this
21:09to record the people's reaction
21:10as he told them
21:11he was joking.
21:13However,
21:13his practical joke
21:14caused the resort
21:15to lock down
21:16as the fake story
21:17was investigated.
21:19According to the arrest report,
21:20he was working
21:21on a school project
21:22and recording people's reactions
21:24when they find out
21:25an emergency was occurring.
21:26The police later found
21:28Birch hiding in a bush.
21:29Due to his reckless behavior,
21:30he was sentenced
21:31to three days in jail
21:33and banned from Disney World.
21:35Dear Fat People,
21:36Usually when a comedian
21:38makes a joke,
21:39there's a setup,
21:40a punchline,
21:41and laughter
21:41from the audience.
21:43However,
21:43Nicole Arbor's 2015 video
21:45Dear Fat People
21:46missed all these attributes.
21:48Ah, some people
21:49are already really mad
21:50at this video.
21:51She spent six minutes
21:52monologuing to the camera
21:53with fatphobic jabs
21:55poorly disguised as jokes.
21:58Understandably,
21:58there was a lot of backlash
22:00as fellow YouTubers
22:01and viewers
22:02heavily criticized her.
22:04The controversy
22:05even caused Arbor
22:06to miss out
22:07on film roles, too.
22:09However,
22:09despite that,
22:10the Canadian influencer
22:11has little remorse.
22:13Instead,
22:14she made various
22:14other Dear videos,
22:16each taking shots
22:17at another demographic.
22:19Arbor also claimed
22:20she did the infamous video
22:21to gain notoriety,
22:23but it's not like
22:23the scandal
22:24springboarded her career.
22:25Did you expect
22:27to offend people?
22:28Are you surprised?
22:29Yeah, 100%.
22:30100%.
22:31That video
22:32was made
22:32to offend people
22:34just the way I do
22:35with all the other videos.
22:36It's just satire.
22:37I'm just being silly.
22:38I'm just having a bit of fun.
22:39Ruby Frankie.
22:40In 2015,
22:42Frankie opened
22:42the family vlogging channel
22:44Eight Passengers.
22:45Ruby Frankie.
22:47Ironically,
22:48she'd been a high-flying
22:48Mormon momfluencer
22:50attracting two and a half
22:51million followers
22:52on her YouTube channel,
22:54Eight Passengers.
22:54Ruby's personal brand
22:57built around tough love.
22:58But by 2020,
23:00allegations of mistreating
23:01her children
23:02began to slowly circulate,
23:04resulting in the channel's decline.
23:06After splitting
23:07with her husband Kevin
23:08in 2022,
23:10Frankie started working
23:11with counselor
23:12Jodi Hildebrandt
23:13on the channel Connections.
23:15In 2023,
23:16shock spread through YouTube
23:18when Frankie's emaciated
23:20and injured son
23:21escaped from their house
23:23and asked neighbors
23:24for help.
23:25Police soon investigated
23:26and found evidence
23:28of abuse.
23:29After agreeing
23:30to a plea deal,
23:31Frankie was sentenced
23:32to between 4 and 30 years
23:34in jail.
23:35Hildebrandt,
23:36taking a similar deal,
23:37also received
23:384 to 30 years.
23:40Jodi Hildebrandt
23:41and Ruby Frankie
23:41are now waiting
23:42to be transported
23:43to prison,
23:44where the Utah
23:45Board of Pardons
23:45and Parole
23:46will ultimately
23:47decide their fate.
23:48So when I look
23:49at this case,
23:50you're probably looking
23:51in that 8 to 10 year range
23:54for both of them.
23:55However,
23:56this was soon followed
23:57by a lawsuit
23:57from a former client
23:59and another from Kevin.
24:01I'm Jay Station
24:02fakes girlfriend's death.
24:04When looking
24:04to boost interest
24:05in a channel,
24:06YouTubers will typically
24:07think of new content ideas
24:09or rebranding.
24:10However,
24:11Jason Ethier,
24:12a.k.a.
24:13I'm Jay Station,
24:14went in a far
24:15more sinister direction.
24:17We're gonna say
24:17our last goodbyes
24:19to Alexia.
24:21In 2020,
24:22he uploaded a video
24:23of him tearfully
24:24explaining that his partner
24:25and fellow YouTuber,
24:26Alexia Murano,
24:28had passed away
24:28after an intoxicated
24:30driver struck her.
24:31Ethier then released
24:32further videos,
24:34such as trying
24:34to contact her spirit
24:36with a Ouija board.
24:37However,
24:37it soon emerged
24:38that the police
24:39had no record
24:39of a fatal crash
24:40in that area
24:41and that Murano
24:42was alive.
24:43Ethier eventually
24:44admitted he did
24:45this to boost subscribers
24:46and that his partner
24:48was involved
24:48in the ploy.
24:49Alexia was
24:50never dead
24:52at all.
24:56Let me tell you guys
24:57exactly what happened
24:58with all these
24:59my girlfriend's
25:00dead videos
25:01because right now
25:02it's gonna be
25:03a very truthful story.
25:04However,
25:05Murano then broke up
25:06with him
25:06and accused him
25:07of abuse.
25:09Onision.
25:10In the early days
25:11of YouTube's popularity,
25:12James Jackson,
25:14also known as
25:15Onision,
25:16was one of the
25:16platform's biggest
25:17names with his
25:18sketch videos.
25:19Great strawman
25:20arguments.
25:21All right.
25:21One,
25:22I don't think
25:22you understand
25:23what a strawman
25:23argument is.
25:24And two,
25:25look at my ankles.
25:26However,
25:26in 2012,
25:27another side to him
25:28began to emerge
25:29as he made
25:30controversial statements
25:31about an ex-partner.
25:33In 2019,
25:34Jackson allegedly
25:35doxed someone,
25:36resulting in his
25:37Patreon being banned.
25:39Soon after,
25:40he was then accused
25:41of abuse by ex-partner
25:43Shiloh Hoganson,
25:44followed by accusations
25:46he'd been grooming fans.
25:47This led Chris Hansen
25:49of To Catch a Predator
25:50fame to target Jackson
25:51by arriving at his home
25:52to interview him.
25:54However,
25:54Jackson refused.
25:55He then issued
25:56petitions against Hansen
25:58and YouTuber
25:59Daniel Sulzbach,
26:00aka Repzion.
26:02However,
26:03due to another
26:03Chris Hansen
26:04being served
26:05accidentally,
26:06it was dismissed.
26:07He went to court
26:09filing his own
26:10motion for
26:12some sort of
26:13restraining order
26:14and it was dismissed.
26:15It was,
26:16you know,
26:17one of the goofiest
26:18things I've ever seen.
26:20BetterHelp.
26:20If their commercials
26:21aren't popping up
26:22during videos,
26:23BetterHelp was sponsoring
26:24specific YouTubers.
26:26We want to give a big
26:27thank you to our sponsor
26:27of this video,
26:28BetterHelp.
26:29With a company
26:29all about helping
26:30those struggling
26:31with mental health issues
26:32by connecting them
26:33to therapists,
26:34it seemed like
26:35a good message.
26:36But not everyone agreed.
26:38In 2018,
26:39YouTube stars
26:40such as PewDiePie
26:41criticized BetterHelp's
26:42practices,
26:43accusing the company
26:44of faking reviews,
26:46deceptive pricing,
26:47and terms of service
26:48that stated it didn't
26:50guarantee therapists'
26:51credentials.
26:52Yikes.
26:53PewDiePie also highlighted
26:54that when viewers
26:55signed up via a link,
26:57the YouTuber
26:57would get paid,
26:59essentially meaning
26:59they're profiting
27:00from their fan base's
27:01struggles.
27:02It's been confirmed
27:03that YouTubers
27:03have been paid $200
27:05per person
27:06that they get
27:07to sign up
27:08for BetterHelp.
27:09$200.
27:10That's a lot of money.
27:12BetterHelp higher-ups
27:13rejected the accusations.
27:15However,
27:15the company found itself
27:16in another controversy
27:17in 2023
27:18when it shared
27:19consumers' health data
27:20with third parties,
27:22Reset and the
27:23inedible Oreo.
27:24First specializing
27:25in gaming content,
27:27Kongwa Ren,
27:28aka Reset,
27:29began incorporating
27:30challenge and
27:31practical joke videos.
27:33However,
27:33in 2017,
27:35Ren took a pack
27:36of Oreos,
27:37removed the cream,
27:38and replaced it
27:39with toothpaste.
27:40Video prompted
27:40outrage online
27:42when Reset was 19.
27:43He did post a video
27:44admitting he may
27:45have gone too far.
27:46Then he went
27:47through the streets
27:47of Barcelona,
27:48Spain,
27:49giving the deceptive
27:50treats to people.
27:51Ren then met
27:52a homeless man
27:53and gave him
27:54some doctored Oreos,
27:55causing the man
27:56to vomit.
27:57He later tried
27:58to bribe the man
27:59and his family
28:00into not pressing
28:01charges.
28:02In 2019,
28:03Ren was sentenced
28:04to 15 months
28:05in jail,
28:06which he was
28:06unlikely to serve
28:07due to being
28:08a non-violent
28:09first-time offender.
28:10So hopefully
28:11he learns a lesson
28:11from this
28:12because he didn't
28:12have any empathy
28:13for this man
28:13whatsoever,
28:14so someone needs
28:15to teach this
28:15young man a lesson.
28:17Ren was also banned
28:18from uploading
28:18on YouTube
28:19for five years
28:20and had to pay
28:21the victim
28:2120,000 euros,
28:23around $22,400.
28:26Ava Tyson's
28:27Alleged Messages
28:28As a childhood
28:29friend of James
28:31Mr. Beast Donaldson,
28:33Tyson had been
28:33involved with the
28:34channel since
28:34the early days.
28:36In 2023,
28:37during an interview
28:38with Anthony Padilla,
28:39she announced
28:40she was a trans woman.
28:41And I think
28:42that is part of
28:43what the HRT
28:44did for me
28:44was being able
28:46to accept myself
28:47and being able
28:48to look in the mirror
28:49and say,
28:49yes, you are a woman.
28:50However,
28:51in 2024,
28:52Tyson was then accused
28:53of grooming a minor
28:54while she defended
28:55herself,
28:56claiming it was
28:57edgy jokes
28:58Tyson stepped away
28:59from the
29:00Mr. Beast channel.
29:01The victim
29:01originally supported
29:02Tyson's version
29:03of events,
29:04but later stated
29:05they realized
29:06it was inappropriate.
29:07Donaldson followed
29:08the scandal
29:08by hiring a law firm
29:10to investigate
29:10the accusations.
29:12Part of that
29:12investigation is
29:13they recommended
29:14that I not talk
29:15about drama
29:16or really do
29:17anything online
29:17because it might
29:18influence,
29:19you know,
29:20witnesses or any
29:21people they might
29:21interview or
29:22ex-employees.
29:23After three months,
29:24the company concluded
29:25the allegations
29:26were, quote,
29:27baseless,
29:28following this,
29:29the alleged victim
29:30called the allegations
29:31against Tyson,
29:32quote,
29:33completely false,
29:34the ukulele apology.
29:36With her character
29:37Miranda Sings,
29:38Colleen Ballinger
29:39took YouTube
29:39by storm
29:40with her skits,
29:41leading to mainstream
29:42success with films
29:44and TV shows.
29:45Bam!
29:46You're famous.
29:48Sounds easy to me?
29:49Well, it is easy.
29:50The views should
29:51start pouring in.
29:52However,
29:53behind the scenes,
29:54things were
29:55very far darker.
29:57After admitting
29:57to sending underwear
29:58to an underage fan
30:00in 2020,
30:01it got worse
30:01in 2023
30:02when screenshots
30:04of a group chat
30:05she was involved in
30:06went public.
30:07Ballinger seemingly
30:08asked many inappropriate
30:09questions to minors,
30:11including those
30:12that evolved around
30:13intimate acts.
30:14As the scandal grew,
30:15causing racist
30:16and insensitive
30:17past videos
30:18to resurface,
30:19Ballinger did something
30:20no one expected.
30:22She released
30:22a YouTube apology video
30:24while singing
30:24as she played
30:25the ukulele.
30:26All aboard
30:27the toxic gossip train
30:30Chugging down
30:32the tracks
30:32of misinformation
30:34It was strange
30:35and caused
30:36a lot of backlash
30:37and mockery
30:38that she hasn't
30:39recovered from since.
30:40Jeff Wittick's
30:41horror injuries
30:42Typically,
30:43when a group
30:44of influencers
30:44team up for content,
30:46everyone benefits
30:47in some way.
30:48However,
30:49for Wittick
30:49and David Dobrik's
30:50flog squad,
30:52it ended horribly.
30:53I just jumped
30:54out of a plane
30:5420 times.
30:56What's the worst
30:56that could happen?
30:57In 2020,
30:58Wittick was severely
30:59injured by a stunt,
31:01resulting in suffering
31:02many terrible injuries.
31:04In 2021,
31:05he released a series
31:06of videos titled
31:07Don't Try This At Home,
31:09which detailed
31:10what happened
31:10and the aftermath.
31:12As the squad
31:12was filming stunts
31:13in a lake in Utah,
31:15one part involved
31:16Wittick holding
31:17onto a rope
31:17as Dobrik swung
31:18the excavator
31:19it was attached to.
31:21However,
31:21Dobrik was more
31:22aggressive with
31:23the movements.
31:24He then stopped
31:24suddenly,
31:25causing Wittick
31:26to collide
31:27with the vehicle.
31:28In 2022,
31:29Wittick issued
31:30a $10 million
31:31lawsuit against
31:32Dobrik
31:33for causing
31:33his injuries.
31:35I felt stupid
31:35that I even
31:36got myself
31:37in that situation
31:38and that I even
31:39allowed somebody
31:40to have control
31:41of my life.
31:42Hossein Zaday
31:43vs. Klein
31:44You may know
31:45these parties better
31:46as YouTube
31:46personalities
31:47Bold Guy
31:48and H3H3 Productions.
31:51For those
31:51unfamiliar with
31:52the works
31:52of Ethan
31:53and Ila Klein,
31:54their two channels
31:55H3H3
31:56and Ethan
31:57and Ila
31:57boast comedy skits,
31:59reaction videos,
32:00and YouTube
32:01criticism.
32:02When they reacted
32:02to a video
32:03uploaded by
32:04Matt Haas' zone,
32:05the channel's
32:06owner,
32:06Matthew Hossein
32:07Zaday,
32:08didn't take
32:09too kindly
32:09to the slamming
32:10or their use
32:11of his content.
32:12You know,
32:13when you watch
32:13a porn,
32:14you endure
32:14this sh**
32:15because you know
32:15it's going somewhere,
32:16but here it's like
32:17there's no payoff.
32:19His lawyer
32:19demanded the video
32:20to be taken down,
32:21never spoken of again,
32:23and wanted $4,000
32:24in compensation.
32:26The lawsuit
32:26continued,
32:27causing big names
32:28like Philip DeFranco
32:29and the Fine Brothers
32:31to band together
32:32to help fund
32:32H3H3's defense
32:34in the name
32:35of fair use,
32:36YouTube heroes,
32:37and subscriber bug.
32:382016 will go down
32:40as a write-off
32:41for just about
32:41everybody,
32:42especially YouTube.
32:44Throughout the year,
32:45many YouTubers
32:45saw a hefty dip
32:46in their subscribers
32:47and were understandably
32:49a little miffed.
32:50In response
32:51to the outcry,
32:52YouTube kind of admitted
32:53they didn't know
32:53what was happening,
32:55later saying
32:55it was a bug.
32:56What is happening,
32:57YouTube?
32:58I need answers.
32:59To add fuel
33:00to the rage fire,
33:01YouTube then came out
33:02with YouTube Heroes
33:03in September 2016,
33:05a program that would
33:06allow users
33:07to flag videos,
33:08report users,
33:09and assist
33:10in closed captioning.
33:12Basically,
33:12they wanted people
33:13to work for YouTube
33:14for free.
33:15In a sad twist of irony,
33:17the community backlash
33:18was so brutal
33:19that YouTube disabled
33:20the comment section
33:21on the video.
33:22Talk about a downvote.
33:24Marina Joyce
33:24fake kidnapping.
33:26In July 2016,
33:27this young beauty vlogger
33:29came under serious scrutiny.
33:30In a video
33:31about date outfits,
33:33Marina Joyce
33:33seemed to be behaving strangely.
33:35Click the link
33:36or click this right now
33:38if you would like
33:38to buy their clothes.
33:39Her fans immediately noticed
33:41she wasn't her normal
33:42energetic self
33:43and some even thought
33:44they could see bruises
33:45on her body.
33:46Many took these
33:47as signs Joyce
33:48was in danger,
33:49with some even speculating
33:50she was kidnapped
33:51by ISIS.
33:52The hashtag
33:53Save Marina Joyce
33:54quickly spread online,
33:56with fears escalating
33:57to the point
33:57that authorities
33:58visited her home.
33:59In reality,
34:00the video was just
34:01an awkward advertisement
34:03and her bruises
34:04a result of a tumble
34:05in the woods
34:05prior to shooting the video.
34:07Whether this was
34:08a stunt Joyce pulled,
34:09the real deal,
34:10or just a lot
34:11of jumping to conclusions,
34:12it's still quite something.
34:14The Beauty Racism Scandal
34:15What do they say
34:16about glass houses
34:17and throwing stones again?
34:19These beauty gurus
34:20could have used
34:21a refresher.
34:22In summer 2018,
34:23the beauty community
34:24was rocked
34:25by a racism scandal
34:26reported in Vox
34:27and the Washington Post.
34:29It all started
34:29with the fallout
34:30between makeup artist
34:31Jeffree Star
34:32and other beauty mavens.
34:33In a tweet,
34:34Gabby Zamora
34:35accused Star
34:36of being racist,
34:38but it backfired
34:39when followers
34:40dug up offensive
34:41social media posts
34:42from Zamora,
34:43Manny MUA,
34:45Nikita Dragon,
34:46and the aforementioned
34:47Laura Lee.
34:48The scandal led
34:49to Lee's infamous
34:50and widely ridiculed
34:51apology video.
34:52Let this be me!
34:54Toby Turner's
34:54Allegations
34:55Famous for his
34:56literal trailers
34:57and humorous music videos,
34:59Did man watch us
35:00from a distance?
35:01Toby Turner,
35:03aka Tobuscus,
35:04came under fire
35:05in spring 2016
35:06for accusations
35:07from ex-girlfriend
35:08and YouTube
35:09personality April F.
35:11Soon after,
35:12another of Turner's
35:13ex-girlfriends,
35:14Amelia Tallon,
35:15came forward
35:16saying that Turner
35:17had pressured her
35:18into using drugs
35:19and had also
35:19physically hurt her.
35:21Jacqueline Glenn,
35:22another ex,
35:23did speak out
35:24in support of Turner,
35:25though she also claimed
35:26that she often felt
35:27pressured,
35:28but not forced
35:29to do things
35:29during their relationship.
35:30In November,
35:31she posted again
35:32saying that Turner
35:33was incessantly messaging her
35:35and that she just wanted
35:36the whole ordeal to stop.
35:38The Ace Family
35:38You ready?
35:40Yes.
35:41Let's do it.
35:41On the surface,
35:42the Ace Family
35:43YouTube channel
35:43portrays a luxurious
35:45and fulfilling family life
35:46that any normal person
35:48could only dream of.
35:49I will be
35:50the best husband
35:53and the best father
35:55that I will
35:56try to ever be.
35:58But search the internet
35:59using the patriarch's name
36:01Austin McBroom
36:02and the word scandal
36:03and you won't know
36:04where to start
36:05with this channel.
36:06For one,
36:06Austin has been accused
36:07of cheating on his wife.
36:08Does your wife know
36:09that you cheat on her
36:10every weekend?
36:11Does she know
36:11that you messaged
36:12every single girl
36:13on Instagram?
36:13Assaulting other women
36:14and has faced lawsuits
36:16related to unpaid bills,
36:18namely the foreclosure
36:19of their $13 million mansion.
36:21He's also come under
36:22severe criticism
36:23for his problematic behavior
36:25relating to his own children.
36:26You guys ready for Saturday?
36:28Yeah!
36:29Elsagate
36:29Spanning multiple channels,
36:31Elsagate changed
36:32how YouTube monitors content.
36:34The foundations
36:34were laid in 2014
36:36when Quebec City-based channel
36:38Webs and Tiaras
36:39began uploading videos
36:40featuring people
36:41dressed up as Elsa
36:42and Spider-Man
36:43in unexpected
36:44and disturbing situations.
36:46At first glance,
36:47the video seemed
36:48family-friendly
36:48and designed
36:49to draw in young viewers.
36:51But then things get weird
36:52and inappropriate.
36:56The aforementioned
36:58Toy Freaks
36:59was also caught up
37:00in this scandal.
37:01It all led YouTube
37:02to delete thousands
37:03of videos
37:04under its new guidelines.
37:06Eugenia Cooney
37:07Beauty YouTuber
37:08Eugenia Cooney
37:09has been controversial
37:10ever since her first video
37:12due to her
37:12extremely thin appearance.
37:14In 2016,
37:16a Change.org petition
37:17called for YouTube
37:18to temporarily ban her account,
37:20claiming she has
37:20a negative influence
37:21on young girls,
37:23some of whom say
37:23they want to be
37:24Eugenia Cooney Skinny.
37:26Eugenia subsequently stated
37:27that she doesn't endorse
37:28being underweight
37:29and YouTube refused
37:31to ban her account.
37:32This in turn
37:32sparked heated discussions
37:34around the extent
37:34of control and influence
37:36that people can
37:37or should have
37:37over others' bodies.
37:39To this day,
37:40her videos receive
37:41a significant portion
37:42of dislikes.
37:43Nicole Arbor
37:44and Matthew Santoro
37:45YouTuber Nicole Arbor
37:47is best known
37:47for her infamous
37:48Dear Fat People video,
37:50in which she harshly
37:51criticizes obese people.
37:53Dear Fat People.
37:54Ah, some people
37:55are already really mad
37:56at this video.
37:56She made more than
37:57a few enemies
37:58with her comments,
37:59all while gaining
38:00a lot of publicity.
38:01Did you expect
38:03to offend people?
38:04Are you surprised?
38:05Yeah, 100%, 100%.
38:06However, she came
38:07into the news again
38:08for another YouTube-related fiasco.
38:10Matthew Santoro,
38:12who's best known
38:12for his factual list videos,
38:14posted a video revealing
38:15that he had an emotionally
38:16and physically abusive relationship.
38:18This person prevented me
38:21from leaving their home.
38:23I was hit in the face.
38:24In a video from January 2016
38:26titled My Abuse Story,
38:28he talked about the relationship
38:29and the ensuing trauma.
38:31It wasn't confirmed
38:32that he was referring
38:33to Arbor
38:33until she posted
38:34calling him a little bitch
38:36and stated he was
38:37using her for attention.
38:39Real classy.
38:40Leafy is here.
38:41For a while there,
38:42Leafy is here managed
38:43to make a career
38:44out of just ridiculing
38:45people on YouTube.
38:47Guess we're all good
38:47at something?
38:48In 2016,
38:49he decided to turn
38:50his mean streak
38:51onto autistic YouTuber
38:53TommyNC2010,
38:55making fun of his appearance
38:56and behavior.
38:57In a tearful response,
38:59TommyNC2010 claimed
39:00that Leafy's toxic fans
39:02were sending him death threats.
39:04All I wanted to do
39:05was inspire people.
39:08An iDubbbz content cop video
39:10soon followed,
39:11criticizing Leafy's
39:12repetitive and low-quality content,
39:15after which Leafy's subscriber count
39:17began to plummet.
39:18He stopped uploading content
39:19in December 2017,
39:21and YouTube isn't exactly
39:22worse off for it.
39:24DramaAlert and the RuneScape Predator
39:26No one can stir up the drama
39:28quite like Keemstar
39:29of the controversial
39:30DramaAlert channel.
39:31However,
39:32sometimes he and the channel
39:33jumped the gun,
39:34and in this case,
39:35someone got hurt.
39:36DramaAlert found a news story
39:38about a gamer named
39:39John Phillips
39:39using RuneScape
39:41to lure young women,
39:42and singled out
39:43Twitch streamer Tony
39:44as the culprit.
39:45Except he wasn't the guy.
39:47Tony soon received
39:48death threats
39:49and hateful messages,
39:50reducing him to tears.
39:52YouTuber Scarce
39:53entered the scene
39:54and called out
39:54Keemstar's lack
39:55of fact-checking,
39:57stating that the actual
39:58predator was still in prison
39:59and that Tony
40:00was an innocent man.
40:01Keemstar issued
40:02an apology video
40:03and offered the man
40:04money in damages,
40:05but many thought
40:06sorry wasn't nearly enough.
40:08I know the responsible thing
40:09is to acknowledge
40:11that we got this wrong.
40:12The Channel Awesome
40:13The Management Controversy
40:15There's only so much
40:16that people will take.
40:17In March 2018,
40:19former Channel Awesome
40:20employees alleged mistreatment
40:22by the company's
40:22upper management.
40:23They accused
40:24the Walker brothers
40:25of being incompetent
40:26and failing to communicate
40:27with producers,
40:28and alleged that
40:29the company fosters
40:30an incredibly sexist
40:31working environment.
40:32A few months later,
40:34a document titled
40:34Not So Awesome
40:35was released
40:36via Google Drive,
40:37detailing numerous
40:38further complaints.
40:40Channel Awesome
40:40brushed off the accusations,
40:42calling its former employees
40:43disgruntled and vindictive,
40:45making the situation
40:46much, much worse.
40:48When the dust settled,
40:49only four producers remained,
40:51where once there were 40.
40:53CSGO Lotto
40:54T. Martin
40:55and the Syndicate Project
40:56In 2013,
40:58Counter-Strike Global Offense
40:59became more customizable
41:00for users,
41:01giving them the option
41:02of skins.
41:03Soon,
41:04sites popped up
41:05giving users,
41:06no matter how old they were,
41:07the chance to trade
41:08and gamble
41:09these coveted items
41:10on Counter-Strike games
41:11on stream.
41:12YouTuber Honor the Call
41:13started noticing
41:14that Trevor Martin,
41:15known as T. Martin,
41:17and Tom Castle
41:18of the Syndicate Project,
41:19both won a lot of money
41:20on CSGOLotto.com,
41:22which was used
41:23to win the in-game items.
41:25Oh my God!
41:27He then uncovered
41:27that Martin and Castle
41:28were CSGO Lotto's
41:30president and vice president,
41:31respectively,
41:32which they hadn't mentioned.
41:34Apparently,
41:35these two have been
41:36allegedly faking gambling
41:38and also faking winning.
41:39What started as a mother
41:40suing the game's developer
41:42for allowing her son
41:43to gamble
41:43soon resulted
41:44in a class-action lawsuit
41:46against Martin and Castle,
41:47who had broken
41:48the Federal Trade Commission rules,
41:50the Micah Stauffer family scandal.
41:52Family-themed YouTube channels
41:53always seem ripe
41:54for controversy.
41:55I am personally
41:56concerned for these kids.
41:58It is not okay
41:58to treat children like this.
42:00I just call it a prank.
42:01DaddyO5 is one example,
42:03having had their channel
42:03terminated for causing
42:04mental damage
42:05to their own children.
42:06They would get excited
42:07when they would get
42:08a lot of views
42:09and it was more
42:10for shock value.
42:11But the Micah Stauffer scandal
42:13involving her adopted son
42:14is one that's even more
42:16twisted and bizarre.
42:17In 2017,
42:18with some help
42:19from a GoFundMe,
42:20the Stauffers adopted
42:21a young boy from China
42:22whom they knew
42:23had autism.
42:25For several years,
42:26audiences got to know
42:27their son Huxley
42:28and how he was readjusting
42:29to his new life
42:30and family.
42:31Then suddenly,
42:32he disappeared
42:32from the channel's uploads
42:34and the news came out
42:35shortly
42:35that he had been re-homed
42:37to a new family
42:37that supposedly
42:38was more able
42:39to suit his special needs.
42:41Do I feel like a failure
42:42as a mom?
42:43Like 500%.
42:44While some of their audience
42:45may have been sympathetic
42:46to the situation,
42:48the overall response
42:49on social media
42:49was one of shock
42:50and disgust,
42:51with many accusing
42:52the Stauffers
42:53of exploiting
42:53the young child
42:54for content.
42:55Sam Pepper's
42:56Killing Best Friend Prank
42:57Former Big Brother
43:02housemate Sam Pepper
43:03is now most known
43:04for prank videos.
43:06In 2014,
43:07one of his videos
43:07featured him touching
43:08women without their consent,
43:10but a year later,
43:11he went to a whole new level.
43:13The video depicts
43:13Pepper in disguise
43:14kidnapping online personalities
43:16Sam Goldbach
43:17and Colby Brock,
43:19then forcing Goldbach
43:20to watch Brock get shot.
43:22Pepper was shocked
43:23by the horrified response,
43:24and Goldbach expressed
43:25the video's point
43:26about living life
43:27to the full.
43:28When petitions called
43:29for Pepper
43:30to be banned from YouTube,
43:31he responded
43:32with a GoFundMe page,
43:34promising to delete
43:34his YouTube account
43:35if pledges hit $1.5 million.
43:38By February 2016,
43:40Pepper began privatizing
43:41his videos
43:42and purging his Twitter account
43:43before re-emerging
43:44as a vlogger.
43:46Shane Dawson
43:46and his jokes
43:48Shane Dawson
43:49just keeps piling it on.
43:51In 2012,
43:52Dawson thought
43:52it would be hilarious
43:53to perform in blackface
43:55at VidCon.
43:56It wasn't,
43:57and he apologized.
43:58In the meantime, though,
43:59he'd joked,
44:00if that's the word,
44:02about Googling
44:02inappropriate topics
44:03relating to kids.
44:05He offered a quote-unquote
44:06justification
44:07for this behavior.
44:09It all resurfaced
44:10in 2018
44:10when he was lambasted
44:12on Twitter.
44:13That same year,
44:14he copped criticism
44:15for his documentary
44:16on Jake Paul,
44:17in which he asked
44:18a marriage and family counselor
44:20if Jake Paul
44:20was a sociopath.
44:22Oh, and then in March 2019,
44:24someone dug up
44:25a clip of him
44:25talking about
44:26doing disgusting things
44:27to a cat.
44:29TanaCon
44:29If Tana Mojo
44:30will be remembered
44:31for anything,
44:32it will be the utter
44:33dumpster fire
44:33that was TanaCon.
44:34When VidCon refused
44:36to brand Tana
44:36a featured creator,
44:38she created
44:39the self-named
44:39TanaCon
44:40in retaliation,
44:41hosting it
44:42at the Anaheim
44:42Marriott Suites
44:43on the same day
44:44as VidCon.
44:45The event was sold
44:46well over capacity,
44:47leaving fans stuck
44:48outside in the sun
44:49for hours.
44:49I got pushed
44:50by a cop.
44:52I got pulled
44:52by the hair
44:53by a fan.
44:54And when they got inside,
44:55the convention
44:56was little more
44:56than a hotel hallway
44:57with nothing to do.
44:58The gift bags
44:59given to VIPs
45:00consisted of wristbands
45:02and TanaCondoms.
45:04Frustrated attendees
45:05compared it to
45:05Fyre Festival,
45:06and security
45:07shut the whole thing
45:08down after just
45:09a few hours.
45:12The Fine Brothers
45:13React World
45:14Best known
45:14for their reaction videos,
45:16the Fine Brothers
45:16announced plans
45:17in 2016
45:18to license their format
45:19to creators
45:20and trademark
45:21the term React.
45:22Many saw this
45:25as a move
45:26to capitalize
45:26on what is
45:27a very common format,
45:29and the Fine Brothers
45:29were met
45:30with heavy criticism
45:31from both viewers
45:32and fellow content creators.
45:34YouTubers
45:34with reaction videos
45:35were slammed
45:36with copyright strikes
45:37or requests
45:38for compensation,
45:39and the Fine Brothers
45:40suffered a loss
45:41of around
45:41675,000 subscribers.
45:44On February 1st,
45:452016,
45:46Rafi and Benny Fine
45:47halted the React World
45:49program
45:49and decided
45:50to face the music,
45:51but it's going
45:52to be hard
45:52to ever forget
45:53this bad business move.
45:54We were never
45:55trying to say
45:55that every video
45:56or someone reacts
45:57to something else
45:58is something
45:58we would try
45:59to control.
46:00PewDiePie's
46:00racism scandals
46:012017 was not
46:03PewDiePie's year.
46:04In February,
46:05the Wall Street Journal
46:06pegged nine of his videos
46:08as including
46:08anti-Semitic content
46:09and Nazi imagery.
46:11PewDiePie apologized
46:12while also claiming
46:13that the media
46:14had taken his jokes
46:15and statements
46:15out of context.
46:17Nonetheless,
46:17he was fired
46:18from Disney's
46:19Maker Studios
46:20for going too far.
46:21The following September,
46:22PewDiePie uttered
46:23the N-word
46:24during a live stream
46:25of PlayerUnknown's
46:26Battlegrounds
46:27and had to apologize
46:28again,
46:29calling himself
46:29an idiot.
46:30Then,
46:30in December 2018,
46:32he was called out
46:33for promoting ER,
46:34an anti-Semitic,
46:35homophobic,
46:36and sexist video essayist.
46:38PewDiePie said

47:01Logan Paul in Aokigahara
47:03In the history
47:04of YouTube scandals,
47:05the time Logan Paul
47:06filmed someone
47:07who took their own life
47:08deserves a whole chapter.
47:09The video saw Paul
47:10and friends traveling
47:12into Japan's infamous
47:13Aokigahara Forest,
47:15a location that is said
47:16to house the ghosts
47:17of the dead.
47:17The group eventually
47:18came upon a corpse
47:19hanging from a tree.
47:21They filmed the body,
47:22their reactions,
47:23and then shockingly
47:24uploaded the whole thing
47:25to YouTube.
47:26The backlash was swift,
47:28with even well-known
47:29celebrities chiming in.
47:31Sophie Turner
47:31called him an idiot,
47:33and Aaron Paul
47:33said he should rot in hell.
47:35I have never
47:36quite witnessed
47:38anything so inf***ing humane
47:42and so compassionless
47:45and just with zero respect.
47:48The scandal
47:48and Logan's other antics
47:50eventually led to YouTube
47:51temporarily suspending
47:52advertising on his channels.
47:55What other YouTube scandal
47:56that shook your world
47:57did we miss from our list?
