Lanterns Scores Big with Critics Before HBO Max Premiere

DC may have another winner on its hands. Early reviews for Lanterns are glowing, with critics praising the chemistry between Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre's John Stewart along with the darker mystery at the center of the series.

The Green Lantern series takes a grounded approach that has drawn plenty of comparisons to True Detective. Not every critic is sold on bringing the cosmic heroes down to Earth, but with a Rotten Tomatoes score hovering around 90 percent, the gamble appears to be paying off.

Lanterns premieres Sunday, August 16 on HBO Max.
