00:00Good afternoon, lovely to speak to Peter Walker, who before too long is going to be bringing
00:06something truly special to Chichester Cathedral as part of, with the culmination of Chichester
00:11950 and 950th anniversary celebrations for the Cathedral, Nux Morales you are bringing
00:17to the Cathedral from October the 24th to the 31st. I've seen Nux Morales many times
00:23in Winchester before, first time in Chichester, it's going to be incredibly special, isn't
00:28it? Yeah, it's a really beautiful, unique building, obviously the heart of the city, and what
00:35we do with Lux Morales is in itself very unique, we're quite individual in our approach to
00:41producing large-scale immersive experiences, and for that period of time that we're in
00:47the Cathedral, we'll pretty much be lighting every inch of the remarkable architecture,
00:52filling the spaces with a number of different light and sound installations, which are all
00:59fully immersive, you walk through them, you watch them, you can sit on the floor, you can
01:03lie back and look at the ceiling, and each of these individual installations relate to
01:09elements of the archives, the history and the heritage of that remarkable place.
01:13And that's the point, this is bespoke, what I've seen in Winchester before has been touring,
01:17this is absolutely created with Chichester in mind, so what are you wanting to tell us
01:22about Chichester through this?
01:24Well, it's about the, almost like the tactile history of the building, so by adding the
01:30light into these spaces, by illuminating the columns, by bringing the beautiful sound piece
01:36that my colleague David Harper's produced, and by using elements of the architecture linked
01:43with the archives, we're telling that story of how the cathedral was built, what goes
01:48into the, sort of the heritage and the history of it, the textures, the colours, the fabrics,
01:55the ceremony, the stained glass windows, that art heritage, all of that will bring to life
02:00in an experience that will take people on a 30 minute to one hour experience as they amble
02:06around, taking their own time within the building.
02:08It will be very special, and right at the end in the nave, it's 360 degrees, floor to
02:13ceiling, all the columns, all the architecture covered with light, and right at the end we've
02:19built in almost like a celebratory fine art, firework display, which really is that sort
02:25of celebratory moment for the cathedral's 950th anniversary.
02:29As you're saying, every cathedral has its own character, its own individuality, doesn't
02:33it?
02:33What do you sense about Chichester that makes it different, makes it special?
02:38Chichester Cathedral is uniquely beautiful, we were fortunate to do a project called
02:42Peace Stubs a couple of years ago, and by looking around the building, by exploring its spaces,
02:48the art heritage comes through, which is really important for us as fine artists using light.
02:54It's very community space in the heart of the city as well, it's a very approachable building,
02:59there's a fantastic team there who are going to run the project.
03:01So I think it's going to be a very special week in a very special building, and I think
03:07the nave particularly is one of the most beautiful naves there is in the country, and I think
03:11that's going to look very special with this 360 degree installation within it.
03:16That's quite some prospect.
