00:01DAP's Charles Santiago has criticised Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Co-operatives Minister R. Ramanan
00:07for touting government allocations as proof of its commitment to uplift the Indian community,
00:12saying Ramanan has missed the forest from the trees.
00:16Santiago argued that the eight packages mask deeper unresolved structural issues
00:21and said the real question is why so many Indians are still deprived of basic rights nearly seven decades after independence.
00:28He said if allocations were truly transformative, Tamil schools would not be struggling
00:34and Indian youth would not face limited access to higher education.
00:39He pointed out that the government has yet to address statelessness leaving many Indian children
00:44without the right to education, jobs and health care.
00:48Santiago questioned whether an independent committee exists to monitor government loan schemes
00:52and if there is a long-term plan for economic empowerment of Indian workers.
00:58He called for an independent third-party auditor to evaluate the success of these schemes
01:03in the interests of transparency and public interests.
01:07Responding to Ramanan questioning Santiago's record as an MP,
01:11he said his record was about institutional reforms,
01:15not chasing allocations and declined to continue what he called a tit-for-tat exchange.
