The government have launched a "Pride in Place" programme with funding for over 330 disadvantaged communities. Speaking during a visit to a community centre on Thursday, Chancellor Rachel Reeves said this will give local groups new powers to seize boarded-up shops and restore derelict pubs. 00:00We're announcing today 250 places in the country that have been most forgotten by the previous government,
00:08getting £20 million each over a period of a few years.
00:13And along with that come new powers as well to take greater control of your area.
00:19So that money could be used, for example, if a pub in your community has closed or a community centre has closed.
00:26You both have the right to purchase it, the first divs if you like, but also the money through this scheme to make that become a reality.
00:35So this is about both power and money for local communities.
00:38And it's not government saying this is how the money should be spent.
00:41It will be up to the local people in the community like this area in Woodside in Telford.
