00:00I love reading
00:06And reading by the pool
00:08Even better
00:09But here's the thing
00:11At this hotel
00:12The book isn't the only thing telling a story
00:14The space itself
00:16Has a lot to say
00:18In a city of towering buildings
00:23And jaw-dropping architecture
00:25Skylines aren't the only things changing
00:27In Qatar
00:28The next chapters of the country
00:30Are already being written
00:31Could the future of hospitality
00:33Be less about where you stay
00:35And more about what stays with you
00:37I'm Laila Humaira
00:39And this is Qatar In Motion
00:41Did you know that Qatar
00:48Has one of the highest numbers
00:50Of hotel rooms in the GCC
00:52According to Cushman & Wakefield
00:54The number of hotel keys in Qatar
00:56Hit a record of 40,000
00:58At the start of the year
00:59It's a huge milestone
01:01But an underrated trend
01:03In the tourism industry
01:04Is quietly driving a shift
01:06Staycations
01:08This trend has gone through
01:09A bit of a renaissance
01:11Staycations aren't just
01:13Simple getaways anymore
01:14People are seeking
01:16Meaningful experiences
01:17Even if it's just
01:19A day or two
01:20Well the newest additions to the
01:25Lusail skyline are these two imposing towers
01:28Which look like they have emerged
01:30From the shore's edge
01:31The facade itself is a statement
01:33A conversation starter
01:35Behind me is the Rosewood Doha
01:38Qatar's newest luxury hotel
01:40From the inconspicuous wooden box on the shelves
01:44To the light fixtures and vintage finds
01:46This hotel's approach to hospitality
01:49Is hidden in plain sight
01:51Nowadays luxury
01:54It's about relationship experience
01:57But not in your face
02:00You don't realise
02:01But everything is planned
02:03In this beautiful place
02:04And I think we have built that
02:06Into the Rosewood Doha
02:09And how we created
02:10That experience
02:12That represents Qatar
02:14On a modern canvas
02:15As one of the leading hotel brands
02:18In the world
02:18It's no surprise
02:20That the recent opening
02:21Has created quite a buzz
02:23So far the feedback
02:26Has been exceptionally good
02:28Part of that success
02:29Is on our first 60 days of opening
02:3290% of our occupancy
02:35Is coming from staycations
02:37So what's making the hotel
02:40The most talked about in town?
02:42Well let me show you
02:44Nearly 600 of these lush
02:48Modern and stylish sweets
02:50Asaya
02:52A members-only wellness club
02:54It has a dining area
02:56A pool
02:56A well-equipped gym
02:58And spa
02:59Among other things
03:00And a culinary collection
03:03Asian
03:04Mediterranean
03:04Seafood
03:05Pastries
03:06You name it
03:07But today
03:09I'm feeling peckish
03:11For some Peking duck
03:12Kumadam
03:13Is one of eight FMB offerings
03:15Here at the Rosewood Doha
03:17Inspired by 1920s Shanghai
03:19The restaurant was named
03:21After the fashion icon
03:22Madame Wellington Koo
03:24Blending vintage glam
03:25And elegant traditions
03:27Kumadam serves decadent specialties
03:29Like roasted duck
03:30Hand pulled noodles
03:32And tea ceremonies
03:33There's only one tea sommelier
03:37In the hotel
03:38And her job goes beyond
03:40Blending, brewing
03:42And serving specialty teas
03:44She's helping to keep
03:46The ancient ritual alive
03:48The art of tea making
03:50It's a traditional ceremony
03:53That has been in the Chinese culture
03:55For over centuries
03:56It's a way to show respect
03:58Between the host to the guest
04:01While the preparations may look simple
04:05Not all tea blends are the same
04:07And they're all sourced directly from China
04:10So we see the tea ceremony
04:13As a way of storytelling
04:15Rather than just serving a tea
04:17And a cup of tea from the pot
04:18So we have a tea sommelier
04:20That actually is in charge
04:22Of this ceremony
04:23And on training the team
04:24Because we want to make sure
04:26That everything has a meaning
04:27The hotel's interior
04:30Takes you on many different journeys
04:31But the exterior of the structure
04:34Also has its own lore
04:35The man behind the façade masterpiece
04:40Is very well known in Qatar
04:42Ibrahim Al-Jaida has designed
04:45And restored hotels, stadiums, mosques
04:48Community spaces and museums
04:50All around the region
04:51But this is his latest project
04:54That has been brought to life
04:56Tell us about the vision that you had
04:59Building the façade of the Rosewood Hotel
05:03Like corals coming out from the seabird
05:06Tell us about that vision
05:07In the past we look at
05:09Our architectural identity
05:11As a skin of a building
05:12But now with time
05:14And with the evolution
05:17Of the development of architecture
05:18In our region
05:19And in Qatar in particular
05:21We are sort of redefining identity
05:25Our nature's identity
05:27Our sand dunes
05:27And the sea is a very important part of our history
05:32Our ancestors were pearl divers
05:34So the depth of the sea is so important for us
05:39The treasures of the sea are so important
05:41So I wanted to utilize the coral reefs
05:47But put it into a context
05:49Where I still can screen the building
05:53Reduce the sun glare
05:55Yet in a story that really belongs
05:58To our environment
06:00To our identity
06:01Can you tell us a little bit more
06:03About the sustainability aspect
06:05That you looked into
06:07To make sure that those features
06:09Are in the building
06:11Well, sustainability now
06:13Is not a sort of a marketing thing
06:16For Lusail and for Doha
06:18It's a legislation
06:20An important part was
06:22How to reduce the sun glare
06:24Which we started talking about
06:26How the skin of the building
06:28Started behaving
06:29That's inspired by the corals
06:31Then you go a little bit more
06:33Into details
06:34Which your typical visitor
06:36May not see directly
06:38But how efficient is the water consumption
06:43How efficient is the electrical consumption
06:45In the past
06:45They tend to put a glass building
06:47And pump energy to cool it down
06:50Now with the screening
06:51You reduce that substantially
06:52How do you think architecture
06:54Will continue to grow
06:55And develop in Qatar
06:57And what do you hope
06:58For the next generation
07:00Of Qatari architects
07:01To follow in the legacy
07:03Of your footsteps
07:04A new vocabulary
07:05For this younger generation
07:07Is developed
07:09And I see the younger architects
07:10Are really getting inspired
07:12Of the vast sources of inspiration
07:17Whether it's our desert
07:19Or our sea
07:20The Tao
07:20So there is so much to dig in
07:23And to be inspired
07:25From
07:26Into our culture
07:27And that I think
07:29Is going to create
07:30A wonderful direction
07:33Into contemporary Qatari architecture
07:36Ibrahim's mission
07:37To preserve Qatar's architectural language
07:39Is echoed by Rosewood Doha
07:41The hotel made itself
07:43A canvas for Qatari artists
07:45To showcase their talent
07:47Tell their stories
07:48And display their heritage
07:50For the China wear
07:52We partner with Emerges
07:54And Emerges
07:55Help us to find
07:56Two local artisans
07:58Gada and Nur
07:59That both of them
08:00Have prepared the China wear
08:01For the residents
08:03And for the houses
08:05Aptly named
08:07Treasures of Land and Sea
08:08Gada Al-Qatar's art collection
08:11Displayed at the Rosewood
08:12Is among many of her works
08:14As she describes
08:15As very personal
08:16I did a collection
08:20Inspired by the marine life
08:22Of Qatar
08:22Each set
08:24Is a fish
08:25With its name
08:26And a corresponding pattern
08:27The hamur
08:29Is a fish
08:29That usually
08:30Is found
08:31Under rocks
08:32And you can find them
08:33Three to four meters
08:34Deep
08:35In the composition
08:37You will see them
08:38Sitting low
08:39On the plates
08:39The fish
08:41You know
08:41When you try
08:42And attempt
08:43To catch them
08:43They jump
08:44And so I tried
08:45To reflect that
08:46In the movement
08:47The balls
08:49And the curves
08:50Came from movements
08:51Of waves
08:51And the plants
08:53You find
08:53And corals
08:54You find in the sea
08:55I'm very deeply
08:57Connected to
08:58The sea
08:59And the ocean
09:00My great grandfather
09:01Was a pearl merchant
09:02And we live
09:04In a coastal city
09:04I grew up in a culture
09:06And in a tradition
09:09That is very oral
09:10So our history
09:11Is transferred orally
09:13And just between
09:14A generation
09:15Of my father
09:16And my grandfather
09:18So much has been lost
09:20So I'm trying to
09:21Create the things
09:22I wish I'd seen
09:23Or I wish my parents
09:24Have done
09:25For their moments
09:26In time
09:27And maybe
09:28In a hundred years time
09:30People can see
09:31Oh what Qatar was about
09:32In this given moment
09:33I think it's an artist's
09:35Responsibility sometimes
09:36To reflect that
09:38I thought
09:40Of creating a collection
09:41That instigates
09:42A conversation
09:43Between people
09:44The idea
09:46Is to create
09:48Its curiosity
09:50And beauty
09:51Merged together
09:51For people to learn
09:53Something
09:53Especially about Qatar
09:55They don't get to see
09:56Or learn from
09:57Anywhere else
09:58I would like to
09:59Continue
10:00My work
10:01In showcasing
10:02My culture
10:03Both Arab
10:04And Qatari
10:05In documenting
10:06And archiving
10:07Architecture
10:11And art
10:12Two key pillars
10:13For building
10:14A unique
10:15Hospitality experience
10:16But how will
10:17The industry
10:18Continue to evolve
10:19And what role
10:20Does Qatar play
10:21On the global stage
10:23Well I'm putting
10:23Those questions
10:24To Hospitality Qatar
10:25The premium
10:26Hospitality events
10:28Gathering industry leaders
10:29Stakeholders
10:30And innovators
10:31All in one place
10:33Hospitality Qatar
10:34Marks its 10th edition
10:35Next month
10:36And I caught up
10:37With the organisers
10:38Ahead of the festivities
10:39Qatar as a state
10:45And subsequently
10:47Qatar tourism
10:47As an authority
10:48They have a very
10:49Ambitious plan
10:50To turn Qatar
10:51Into a top
10:52Touristic destination
10:53By 2030
10:54By hosting
10:55Almost 7 million
10:57Visitors
10:57By then
10:58The exhibition
11:00Is trying to
11:01Accompany
11:02This growth
11:02This development
11:03We are focusing
11:05More and more
11:05In the past two years
11:07And going forward
11:08On the skills
11:09Aspect
11:10On the technology
11:11Aspect also
11:12To go towards
11:13A smarter
11:14Greener
11:14More sustainable
11:15Industry
11:16For the very first
11:18Time ever
11:19Actually
11:19Hospitality Qatar
11:20Is going to host
11:21The bookies door
11:22Competition
11:23Chefs from
11:24Different
11:25Institutions
11:26On Qatar
11:26Are going to compete
11:27To select a winner
11:29Who is eventually
11:29Going to represent
11:30Qatar culinary scene
11:32In the regional
11:32And hopefully
11:33In the final
11:34Later in 2027
11:35Well it's clear
11:41That Qatar
11:42Is creating
11:43Something special
11:43At the intersection
11:44Of hospitality
11:45Tourism
11:46And architecture
11:47Embracing trends
11:49But elevating
11:50The experience
11:50To stay ahead
11:51Of the curve
11:52That's all for now
11:54But thanks for watching
11:55Qatar in motion
11:55See you next time
11:56See you next time
11:57To be continued
11:59To be continued
12:00To be continued
