00:00Jalan Burma near Komtar, Georgetown, which was recently affected by a sinkhole, is now fully
00:06reopened following repair works completed early Thursday morning. Penang Island City Council Mayor
00:12Datuk A. Rajendran said the repairs were finished by 4 a.m., allowing the main route to resume normal
00:19traffic. The sinkhole first appeared last Sunday around 9 a.m., after a 300-millimeter pipe
00:25belonging to Inda Water Consortium, or IWK, unexpectedly burst. The incident caused severe
00:33damage to the road surface and disrupted traffic in the area. On Monday, IWK clarified that the
00:40collapse was due to a shift in a sewer pipe connection, which can occur suddenly under heavy
00:45loads and not due to aging infrastructure, as previously speculated. The pipe involved, measuring
00:51525 millimeters in diameter, was located upstream of the sinkhole site. Mayor Rajendran further
00:59announced that the damaged sewer pipe has been fully replaced, and a new manhole cover was
01:04installed early Wednesday morning, ensuring the road is safe for commuters once again.
