00:00Good evening, I'm Gabrielle Lopez and this is PTV News Now.
00:06As the world continues to turn, we remain steadfast in bringing you the stories that define our times,
00:12challenge our understanding and shape our future.
00:15Let's begin with the most pressing matters of the day.
00:18The Philippine Coast Guard has been placed on red alert to respond to areas impacted by super typhoon Ragasa
00:25and to prepare for severe tropical storm Opong.
00:28In a Radio Pilipinas interview, PCG spokesperson Captain Naomi Kayabiab confirmed that all deployable response groups,
00:36including rescue swimmers and medical teams, are on standby.
00:40The PCG has also begun deploying assets such as boats and communication equipment
00:44while involving coastal communities and preparedness efforts.
00:48The PCG is working closely with local government units and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council
00:55for evacuations and information dissemination.
00:58Recently, the PCG District Northeastern Luzon loaded essential goods, including food and water, for affected areas in Cagayan.
01:06President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed confidence in the government's disaster response efforts
01:13but emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and interagency coordination
01:18as Northern Luzon recovers from super typhoon Nando and braces for severe tropical storm Opong.
01:25During a briefing with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council,
01:30he acknowledged the government's preparedness, including the prepositioning of relief goods.
01:35And DRRMC Chair and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro confirmed that while agencies are ready,
01:41some areas in Northern Luzon are still without electricity and damage assessments are ongoing.
01:47He assured that sufficient funds are in place to support response efforts.
01:50Opong, now a severe tropical storm, is expected to intensify and affect eastern Visayas.
01:58Three-dimensional or 3D printing has pushed the boundaries of what a computer can spit out.
02:04And with the advent of artificial intelligence,
02:07a revolution in automobile design and manufacturing has taken off,
02:13as VOA's Genia narrates in this report.
02:15Automobile manufacturing hasn't changed much in the last hundred years,
02:22being quite ineffective, says inventor and automobile designer Kevin Zinger.
02:28It took too much time and too much capital and was too risky
02:33because all of that time and capital went into a set of industrial cookie cutters
02:38that couldn't be changed.
02:40They could only cut the same cookie.
02:41Zinger and his son Lucas are working to change that
02:45by using artificial intelligence to engineer parts produced on a 3D printer
02:51that are lighter and more easily customized than in traditional manufacturing.
02:57If you want to change that part, you have to make a new casting mold.
03:00So re-engineer your entire casting mold just to make one design change.
03:05In our process, we just re-optimize with the software,
03:07we print it on our 3D printers in metal, perfectly optimized, wasting no material.
03:13And if you want to make a design change, within days we can have a new part to you.
03:17Their Zinger 21C was one of Time Magazine's best invention of 2023.
03:24Zinger says the car's powerful hybrid engines produce nearly 1,400 horsepower.
03:31This car symbolizes the transition from a built world, like physically human built world
03:40that's analog to a completely new, much more efficient world,
03:46a world that is much more in harmony with nature because it minimizes material and energy use.
03:52The Zingers say it's an approach that lowers industrial carbon emissions
03:56and democratizes automobile design by allowing local manufacturers anywhere
04:02to create customized parts.
04:07Jenny Adulo, VOA News, Los Angeles.
04:12At this moment, let's turn to my colleague in PTV's Bagu City Studios
