00:00What were the celebrations like on VE Day?
00:02Oh, they were out of this world.

00:06there were buntings, there were balloons flying,
00:09there were trimmings all over the place,
00:11as much to eat as you wanted,
00:13and it was a magnificent day.
00:15I'd just like to show you,
00:17what sort of toys did you have?

00:21Yeah, I made this. What sort of toys did you have?
00:24Well, same as you, with tanks like this.

00:31We used to go to school with our gas mask.
00:34Yeah.
00:35Over our shoulder.
00:36Crazy.
00:37Crazy, as you say.
00:38You must have had to be very brave to know that the Germans could have,
00:41with the Battle of Britain,
00:42knowing that the Germans could have come over at any time.
00:44They could have come over, couldn't they?
00:46Yeah.
00:47I'll put it to you this way,
00:49it was very, very frightening.
