DUP continues to push for British Army to be allowed to recruit at Derry jobs fairs

00:00When taking office you said that you would be a First Minister for All. Your commentary

00:04following the decision by councillors in London and Derry in relation to the jobs fair shows

00:09that you are unwilling to set aside party politics and show leadership. First Minister,

00:13do you want the armed forces to butt out of all of the jobs fairs in Northern Ireland

00:18or is it just ones under nationalist control?

00:21First Minister.

00:22Again, the Member will know that I have made my position clear on this. I think the democratically

00:26elected local councillors know best what is good in their own community. Given the history

00:31of the British Army in Derry, I stand over that I think that was the right call for them to

00:36make in terms of what happens at a job fair. If anyone wants to join any of the British

00:40military they can do it anywhere else. They can go online, they can apply whatever way

00:44they wish, but I think the sensitivities around Derry are not lost on people.

00:49The First Minister hasn't answered the question. It was asked if it was applied to all councils

00:53in Northern Ireland. First Minister, do you not see the hypocrisy of your commentary and

00:59commemorating in relation to those victim makers, but you are unwilling to allow citizens within

01:05my community to engage with the armed forces within their council? Do you not see the hypocrisy

01:10of that?

01:12Do you not see the hypocrisy in going against what is the democratically elected local councillor's

01:18decision? I back the councillors and their decision. I think it was right and appropriate.

01:22I think that you should be respectful also of the council decision because they took it

01:27in the best interests of the community that they serve.

01:34I think the valuation families have also the people that are still experiencing this
