The proposal by Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat that underage girls engaged in consensual sexual relations with men should also face legal action is just his personal view and not government policy, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday (Sept 23), Saifuddin said the remark was made in reference to Kelantan’s crime statistics and does not reflect the stance of his ministry.

He also criticised certain quarters, including human rights groups, for “selective outrage” — condemning Mohd Yusoff’s proposal while staying silent when police officers are attacked in the line of duty.
