00:00And Farina along with Kayleigh McEnany, Harold Ford Jr., Jesse Watters and Tyrus.
00:04It's five o'clock in New York City and this is The Five.
00:07Keen farewell to Charlie Kirk.
00:09Nearly 100,000 people packed State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
00:13An entire football stadium filled to capacity with overflow venues close by
00:18for a tribute to the conservative icon who reshaped American politics
00:22and championed the return of debate and civility.
00:25President Trump inviting Charlie Kirk's widow, Erica Kirk, to the stage
00:30and sharing a moment of remembrance.
00:33And the most powerful moment, she publicly forgave the killer of her husband.
00:39After Charlie's assassination, we didn't see violence.
00:45We didn't see rioting.
00:47We didn't see revolution.
00:50Instead, we saw what my husband always prayed he would see in this country.
00:55We saw revival.
00:59That young man.
01:03I forgive him.
01:11I forgive him because it was what Christ did
01:14and is what Charlie would do.
01:18The answer to hate is not hate.
01:24The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love.
01:29And here's President Trump sharing his remembrance of Charlie Kirk.
01:33Our country was robbed of one of the brightest lights of our times.
01:40A giant of his generation and above all, a devoted husband, father, son, Christian and patriot.
01:47Our greatest evangelist for American liberty became immortal.
01:54He's a martyr now for American freedom.
01:58He did not hate his opponents.
02:00He wanted the best for them.
02:03That's where I disagreed with Charlie.
02:05I hate my opponent.
02:08And I don't want the best for them.
02:10I'm sorry.
02:11I am sorry, Erica.
02:12But now Erica can talk to me and the whole group and maybe they can convince me that that's not right.
02:19It was a remarkable day.
02:21I watched everything from where I was.
02:23But Jesse, you were there and had an up-close and personal experience.
02:29Charlie dreamed of yesterday.
02:32100,000 people.
02:34It was broadcast on all three networks, all cables throughout the entire world, talking about faith, family, America first, the president, the cabinet.
02:46It was the perfect Charlie Kirk turning point event.
02:52And I know he was looking down and he was happy.
02:55Erica said something that stuck with me.
02:57She said, one time Charlie prayed and asked God, send me.
03:02And she said, you don't understand how powerful that is to ask God to do that because God did.
03:08God, in his divine way, used Charlie.
03:12And I don't think we're capable of fully understanding why or how, but we're starting to figure it out.
03:19And he was a missionary.
03:20And it reminded everybody that Christianity really is the bedrock of Western civilization.
03:30And in a way, Charlie was the bedrock of this administration.
03:34And all the people there wouldn't have been there if it wasn't for Charlie Kirk.
03:39It made everybody, including myself and J.D. Vance, come out and say, I rarely talk about my Christian faith publicly.
03:48And in the last week, I've talked more about Jesus Christ than I ever have in my entire public life.
03:54I feel that way.
03:56The rest of the country, I know, feels that way.
04:00And that's a beautiful thing.
04:03Listening to the stories of everybody, the speaker lineup, talk about how he would wake up at 5 a.m.
04:10and work till 11 o'clock, how he would sleep on people's couches, how he didn't take a salary for the first five years.
04:17How he would just see somebody struggling and then pray for them.
04:25You know, that's really who Charlie was.
04:28And I know that the American people are kind of struggling with how to understand this.
04:35And Donald Trump is struggling himself.
04:37You have Erica come out and you say, I forgive the person that killed my husband.
04:43I could never do that.
04:44But I know many people in this country could not, after a week, say that.
04:50After years, say that.
04:52And that's great because she is a woman of God and that is incredibly humble to do.
05:01Donald Trump is just like the rest of us, though.
05:03After what they've done to him, after what they did to Charlie, he doesn't want to forgive.
05:08He actually does hate the people that hate him.
05:11And that's OK, too.
05:12He's not perfect.
05:13He's going to say it how it is.
05:16He's an authentic guy.
05:16He's not going to pretend to be a fake Christian.
05:18And there's a part of the country that says we have to forgive these people.
05:21And there's another part of the country that says no.
05:25And that's where we are as a country.
05:26And that's OK.
05:27And we'll grow as a country, both factions together and try to heal together.
05:34Harold Ford Jr., I haven't had a chance to see you today, but welcome back around the table.
05:38Good to be back.
05:38Good to see you.
05:40Good to be with everybody.
05:41Sunday was a moving day.
05:42I would agree with you, Jesse.
05:43It was inspiring on a lot of levels to watch a young mom, a young wife, a young woman who is now in charge and head of the organization that her husband started, an organization she interviewed at because she believed so firmly in the mission.
05:58Practice her Christianity at the highest of the time.
06:02The two things the Bible instructs us to do, asks us to do, implores us to do, hopes we're able to do as Christians is to love and forgive.
06:11Her words had to not only be painful to utter, but it was a journey she had to obviously go through to get there.
06:19We were reminded of terrible moments in our nation's history where those who have forgiven those who have caused harm to them and their families.
06:29I'm reminded of the Emanuel AME Church 10 years ago where those loved ones and family members said they forgave that young man who came into a prayer group and killed their relatives.
06:39He was a transformative figure, Jesse.
06:43As I said, he and I did not agree on everything, but I was surprised that some of my friends in the Democratic Party in the House could not find a way to vote in favor of the resolution.
06:53The resolution, in my mind, whether you agreed with Charlie or not, that's not what it was about.
06:58It was about whether or not you believed that speech indeed was free and that speech should be protected and that people shouldn't be assassinated or killed or harmed or had violent acts imposed against them because of their views or because you disagree with their views.
07:12This was an enormous outpouring for this young man and for his family.
07:16And I wish his wife and his kids nothing but the very best as they continue to not only celebrate his life, but to chart their own course.
07:23I'm just going to turn to you, Tyrus, for anything you want to say.
07:25But one thing that was repeated throughout everybody's remarks was that this movement lives on and it seems to me it will grow.
07:34Yeah, I would imagine it will grow.
07:36But I think when you look at the climate, right, when you see there's so many people are willing to go on social media and take pot shots and say horrible things,
07:45the message from his family has set the bar at such a high level to where you're not seeing, no one's calling for revenge, no one's calling for more heads to roll.
07:57They're like, to be that strong to say, I forgive you, that wasn't for him.
08:03That wasn't for that bastard assassin.
08:05That was for them, their family, the people who were there.
08:08She is taking a bold step, a tough step to Jesse's right.
08:12A lot of us couldn't say that, but that also is the same thing as saying, remember, it's peaceful.
08:18Remember to do the right thing.
08:20Don't attack people.
08:21Don't use this as your war cry.
08:23As we see on the other side, they're not able to do that right now.
08:26At least individuals who claim to be in the Democratic Party use the hate words and violence for anything that's wrong to them.
08:33I think that was the most powerful thing.
08:34Whether what your religious affiliation is or not, you can get, you can stand by that.
08:39Like, you can be like, I need to be like that, and I need to respond in kind to that.
08:43If they're not doing, no one in there was chanting for anything horrible.
08:48Nobody wanted to see war or a civil war or we need retribution.
08:52It was all about love and honoring people and just being better to each other.
08:56And that message works for everyone, whether you go to church or you don't.
08:59That's the message that stuck with me.
09:02Kaylee, I thought you and Lawrence Jones did an incredible job yesterday.
09:05I appreciated that you guided me through the whole afternoon.
09:10And I wonder now that you've had a little bit of time to process that experience, being a young mother yourself of a newborn baby and knowing Erica, what you think now.
09:21Yeah, well, thank you, Dana.
09:22You know, I think back to this whole 12, 13-day period, and I think about September 9th.
09:28Erica said that Charlie couldn't sleep.
09:30She said he was so excited for this college tour.
09:33She said it was like an Olympic-style event for him.
09:35He would have whiteboards, and he would diagram and plan, you know, different thought patterns of how it could go with students.
09:41And he was ready.
09:42And he woke up, and he said it was going to be a great day.
09:45And she was able to text him, I love you.
09:46And he went off to do his job, to engage in civil discourse.
09:50And she recounts in the New York Times about being on the plane, going to pick up her husband's body,
09:56and looking out and seeing the clouds and seeing the mountains and thinking this was the last thing Charlie saw.
10:01And then when she told the doctor, yes, I do want to see his body, she said he had a half-smile on his face.
10:06And she knew the moment that bullet hit him, when he closed his eyes, the next thing he saw was Jesus Christ.
10:12And I think about this incredible woman you're looking at.
10:14And I think she incurred tragedy at the deepest possible level.
10:18And she chose to turn it into triumph.
10:21And because of Erica Kirk and the courage she had to say, I forgive you, and to say, thy will be done,
10:26and to say to the New York Times, God plans, his plan is greater than my own.
10:30I'm a strong believer this was God's plan.
10:32For her to have that courage, I think September 10th, the day Charlie was killed,
10:37was as cataclysmic as November 5th, the day Donald Trump was elected, if not more so.
10:43Donald Trump himself said, this isn't just a political moment.
10:46This is a spiritual reawakening happening in the country.
10:49I think the fruits of what this young woman did in the Kirk family and giving us these four hours to come to know Christ deeper,
10:56it's going to live on beyond a presidency, beyond an election.
10:59I think she has changed a generation, and she'll continue to do so.
11:03The New York Post, you hold it up, I forgive you on the cover of the New York Post.
11:07The Secretary of State standing on a stage, giving a gospel message,
11:10and then talking about the second coming of Christ, the vice president, the president.
11:14This is going to echo for a generation, and what a legacy Charlie Kirk has left.
11:20All right, thank you, everyone.
11:21Up next, Jimmy Kimmel, believe it or not, he's set to return to air after making false comments about the suspected killer of Charlie Kirk.
11:28On the same day, tens of thousands of patriotic Americans mourn the loss of Charlie Kirk.
11:34CNN chose to give a megaphone to one of the most divisive lawmakers in the country to smear his legacy.
11:41Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett injected race and scolded her colleagues for not opposing a resolution honoring Kirk's legacy,
11:49a resolution that passed just last week, with 58 Democrats voting against a 38 voting president.
11:56One of the things I do want to point out that's not been laid out that honestly hurts my heart is when I saw the no votes, there were only two Caucasians.
12:05For the most part, the only people that voted no were people of color,
12:07because the rhetoric that Charlie Kirk continuously put out there was rhetoric that specifically targeted people of color.
12:16And so it is unfortunate that even our colleagues could not see how harmful his rhetoric was specifically to us.
12:23So much wrong with that statement.
12:26Well, speaking of divisive rhetoric, Disney has just announced that Jimmy Kimmel will be returning to his show tomorrow night
12:32after he falsely claimed that the suspected killer of Charlie Kirk was MAGA.
12:37FCC Chair Brendan Carr speaking at an event earlier before the announcement and denying that there was any government censorship.
12:46Look, again, I think this comes back to where we started, which was a lot of the distortion that's out there.
12:50I mean, Jimmy Kimmel is in the situation that he's in because of his ratings,
12:54not because of anything that's happened at the federal government level.
12:59Jesse, Jimmy's back.
13:01Well, he shouldn't have been in that position anyway.
13:03You can't act like Maddow when you're being paid to be Johnny Carson.
13:09This guy is lying about crimes.
13:11He's framing MAGA as assassins.
13:14He's supposed to be interviewing celebrities about their movies and telling jokes
13:18and dropping televisions out of the second floor window.
13:21They're not paying him to do this.
13:23He could do this on cable, but this is a late night talk show.
13:26You're supposed to be funny and make jokes.
13:29And then everybody goes to bed.
13:31I understand why he is coming back.
13:35He will probably read something that the lawyers wrote for him and act right for a second.
13:40Some of us have been there and then he will carry on and be the exact same Jimmy Kimmel that we're used to.
13:48But how much longer are we going to get Jimmy Kimmel?
13:51His deal's up in January.
13:53Is Disney going to put up with this guy?
13:55He's in second place.
13:56He's a headache.
13:57He's losing cash.
13:58It's a dying format.
14:01Late night.
14:02I just don't see him going on that much longer.
14:05And that's fine.
14:07You know what, Tyrus?
14:09I mean, this isn't going to change the fact that his ratings were plummeting.
14:12We've put those up on the screen before.
14:14I'm beginning to wonder, I mean, sinister conspiracy theory here.
14:17Like, was this all a ratings ploy to get everyone to watch him again?
14:20No, I think this is great for what would you rather be canceled for?
14:26Sucking at your job or the mean president took your job away.
14:30So for them, he's getting to come back.
14:33So you've got to take the president out of it now because now he's back.
14:37So there should be a huge rating spike.
14:39Everyone should be excited.
14:41And Jesse, you're wrong.
14:42You typically finish his third.
14:43Then it's Colbert.
14:44Oh, I wasn't counting Greg.
14:46Yeah.
14:46Oh, yeah.
14:47Yeah.
14:47No, I'm talking networks.
14:49Networks, right.
14:49Okay.
14:50He's beating them.
14:50To be fair.
14:51He's not even on the network.
14:52I just want to say, to be fair.
14:53Thanks to you.
14:55Yeah.
14:55Anchor, if there ever was one.
14:56But it's not about me right now.
14:58But the point is, like, of course he's not going to change
15:01because he didn't have a reason to change.
15:04His whole thing was he got, he had the best thing for him was to stay gone
15:09because he would have been able to say for the rest of his days
15:12that the evil Trump MAGA got me.
15:14And then all the, and all his pundits would come out and say,
15:17free speech is being taken away.
15:19And now I'm like, nope, here's your ball back.
15:21You got a slap on the wrist.
15:22Act right.
15:22So then the next time he gets canceled, and it probably will be before January,
15:27it's going to be about the ratings.
15:28And you won't be able to blame the president.
15:29I'm glad this happened.
15:30You won't be able to blame the FCC.
15:31You'll be able to blame Jimmy Kimmel for not being funny.
15:34Dana, you know, returning to Jasmine Crockett for a moment
15:37because we can't let that go on address.
15:38She said only two Caucasians voted against this resolution.
15:41No one should have voted against this resolution.
15:43And I have here the text of it, condemning the assassin,
15:47commending law enforcement, extending condolences.
15:50I mean, Mike Johnson mentioned he intentionally kept this tight
15:54so that everyone could agree and come together, but she could not.
15:57Well, I mean, we could go through and count how many people on the left
16:01would vote to censure Ilhan Omar.
16:04I mean, if we want, we can keep score.
16:07We can do that.
16:08I would counter her argument with this.
16:12Obviously, I am not a black man.
16:14But this morning on America's Newsroom, I interviewed two young men.
16:17One works as a TP, Talking Points USA, Talking Point.
16:21That was a good interview.
16:22I saw it.
16:22Turning Point USA, a contributor, and the other is at Campus Reform.
16:27Both young black men who said that Turning Point USA gave them an opportunity
16:32to do what they wanted to do on campus, but it was Charlie who gave them
16:37the inspiration and the confidence to do it.
16:39So, Talking Point, golly, what's wrong with me?
16:42I am back from vacation.
16:43Turning Point said, okay, here's the venue, here's the organizational skills,
16:49here's what you need to know in order to put on an event.
16:51But it was Charlie himself who said, I'll show you the way
16:54and how to articulate with ideas.
16:56And they took it very, very seriously.
16:58So I think that they, those two young black men I interviewed today
17:02who are heartbroken, that they would take a lot of issue with what she had to say.
17:05Well, I think you get, I'm sorry, real quick.
17:07The reason why you keep saying talking points, because that's all she was doing,
17:10was making talking points.
17:11And what bothers me about the media, they never say how so, or examples of.
17:15Because that's a pretty strong statement to make about somebody,
17:17but they never seem to have an actual, factual situation of Charlie saying any of these things.
17:22They'll take a cert here, a thing here, he'll call it out.
17:26He keeps it real.
17:27And sometimes keeping it real isn't comfortable.
17:29It was like right before I left, when the New York Times took that,
17:33something that he said, and that he was quoting someone else,
17:36but the New York Times just clipped it.
17:37Exactly.
17:37And made it look like he was anti-Semitic.
17:38It was crazy, and then they had to correct it.
17:41But of course, the correction is this big.
17:43The headline was this big.
17:44Gets no attention.
17:45Yeah.
17:45You know, Harold, the vote to condemn the Minnesota killings of the Democratic local lawmakers was 424-20.
17:52Every Republican voted to condemn that.
17:55Why could 55% of the Democratic caucus not vote to condemn the assassination of Charlie Kirk?
18:00I don't know.
18:01They should have voted that way.
18:02I said on the outset, I'm surprised for, you lay out a great example of the way I read, you read the resolution.
18:10You laid out the example of the Minnesota lawmakers.
18:13This was an assassination because the guy was speaking his mind and speaking his political views.
18:18There's no place for that in our society.
18:21There's no place for that in America.
18:22There's no place for that in our political tradition.
18:26And I just hope that we never, ever have to have another vote like this in the Congress.
18:31But if there is, I hope that people can rise above whether the differences may be.
18:35I didn't agree with Charlie on a lot of things.
18:37There were things that he said that I found disagreeable.
18:39What I found most remarkable about him is that he was willing to debate openly, freely.
18:46And his real objective is to try to persuade you that he was right.
18:51Just one thing on Jimmy Kimmel.
18:53I am happy that he's back, not because I agree with everything he says or I even watch his show or I even find him funny.
19:00What I don't like is when government says that you can't have someone on air because we don't like it.
19:06That's what happens in state-run control media.
19:10That's what happens in countries that have that, including China and Russia and North Korea.
19:15The Biden administration.
19:17If what markets decide if people should be on air, the reason the guy at our network, my pal, is number one is because people watch him.
19:26And if the network wants to lose money, they have every right to do that.
19:30What I don't and will never agree with, and I'm glad to be joined by Ted Cruz and Rand Paul on this,
19:35is for the FCC commissioner and chair, whomever it might work for, saying we can do this the easy way or the hard way.
19:42So I'm glad that he's back because it's a win for free speech.
19:46I don't agree with everything he says.
19:47I don't even find his jokes altogether to be that funny a lot of the time.
19:50But that shouldn't be for the government or the president or any regulator to decide.
19:55The government didn't decide it because he's back tomorrow.
19:58So quite clearly, the government didn't force this.
20:00But Kaylee, when the president of the United States, who you work for on Air Force One, said that they're 90—you were one, I think.
20:06He said they're 97 percent against me, and we should look at their licenses.
20:10When the president of the United States says that, whether he meant it or not, that was wrong.
20:14So for the—you have your reasons.
20:16I'm glad he's back on, not because I think he's funny or because I think he deserves a slot,
20:22because I believe that government intrusion and coercion played a role in him being taken off.
20:26We can just agree to disagree.
20:27Yeah, well, ABC chose to bring back their low-rating nighttime host, so clearly they had the freedom to do that.
20:32Well, up next, it's a real mask-off moment for the Democrats.
20:35Gavin Newsom putting a target on ICE agents by banning masks.
20:39Are you ready?
20:40Give me one second.
20:41Okay.
20:42Trump taps Fox News' judge Janine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney in D.C.
20:58The Five co-host—sorry, one more time.
21:01That was a tongue twister.
21:06Trump taps Fox News' judge Janine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney in D.C.
21:12The Five co-hosts exit network.
21:17Again?
21:18Mm-hmm.
21:22Trump taps Fox News' judge Janine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney in D.S.
21:28The Five co-hosts exit network.
21:31President Donald Trump has tapped the Five co-hosts, Judge Janine Pirro, to be the interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C.
21:42I am pleased to announce that Judge Janine Pirro will be appointed interim United States attorney for the District of Columbia,
21:50Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday.
21:55Janine is incredibly well qualified for this position and is considered one of the top district attorneys in the history of the state of New York.
22:05She is in the class by herself.
22:08Congratulations, Janine Pirro has left Fox News' channel, and a rotation of Fox News' personalities will fill her seat on The Five until a new co-host is named.
22:20Janine Pirro has been a wonderful addition to The Five over the last three years and a long-time beloved host across Fox News' media
22:32who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14 years of tenure.
22:37We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington, a spokesperson for Fox News' media said in a statement.
22:45Piro served as the assistant district attorney and district attorney in New York's Westchester country
22:54and became the first woman to service as a judge in Westchester County Court.
23:03She joined Fox News' channel in 2006 and hosted justice with Judge Janine for 11 years before joining The Five,
23:11which has emerged as the most-watched show on cable news.
23:15Trump has also announced on Truth Social that Ed Martin, who was the previous interim U.S. attorney in D.C.,
23:25will be moving to the Department of Justice as the director of the Weaponization Working Group,
23:32associate deputy attorney general, and pardoned attorney.
23:36In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the weaponization of our government under the Biden regime.
23:45and provide much-needed justice for its victims.
23:49Congratulations, Ed, Trump wrote.
23:52Trump pulled Martin's nomination for U.S. attorney in D.C.
23:57following resistance on Capitol Hill, signalling he did not have enough votes to be confirmed.
24:04He wasn't getting the support from the people that I thought,
24:07Trump told reporters at the White House earlier in the day.
24:12You know, he's done a very good job.
24:15Crime is down 25% in D.C. during this period of time.
24:19I can only lift that little phone so many times of the day, but we have somebody else.
24:25Trump's decision to replace Martin came amidst a May 20 deadline to confirm the former defense attorney
24:33and stop the still organizer.
24:36That's because if the U.S. Senate fails to confirm a U.S. attorney nominee within 120 days,
24:42federal or juristic court judges may select an interim U.S. attorney according to the Department of Justice.
