00:00The Justice Department closed an investigation into border czar Tom Homan was accused of taking

00:05$50,000 in an FBI sting operation. Washington managing editor Catherine Falters joins us now

00:10for more. So Catherine, what exactly was Tom Homan accused of? Well, this is an investigation

00:16that started as part of a broader probe under the previous administration and Tom Homan obviously

00:21became part of this here. So he is accused of, according to our sources and what the FBI found,

00:28as part of this FBI sting operation in which he allegedly took $50,000 in cash as part of this

00:35operation with the FBI posing as business executives in exchange for favorable contracts, if you will,

00:41with Trump should he become president. Of course, this was before Trump was president. So last year,

00:47of course, as Trump was campaigning. So what happened was this investigation transferred,

00:52of course, over to the Trump administration, Kira. And then in the beginning of the Trump

00:56administration were told that it was shut down, that the probe was shut down. Now,

01:01the White House is saying that that's because it was extensively investigated and there was no

01:05evidence of a crime here. But they haven't really said much beyond that. In the White House briefing

01:09today, the press secretary said that Homan never took that $50,000 but didn't really elaborate on

01:15the specifics of that. So that was a bit unclear. But the reality was they closed this investigation

01:21and they haven't provided any summary of it, why it was taking place, what exactly were the

01:26circumstances involving Homan. So there's still a lot of questions on that front as well.
