00:30André, I don't know if I've ever seen you so animated.
00:36You're up out of the chair.
00:38Just talk about your energy.
00:41You know, it's a new experience for me too, right?
00:45Like I was asked before this, what do you think you're going to be like?
00:47I said, I don't know.
00:49I barely know what I'm like every day, let alone doing something I've never done before, right?
00:53But I guess what I'm starting to realize is I had a lot of bottled shit in me when I played
00:58and I didn't let it out and I directed it at one person.
01:02So I always had what's appearing to me to be a pretty damn deep intensity focus and competitiveness.
01:11And now that I got these able, capable, incredible machines out there sort of executing,
01:19it's just there's nowhere for my energy to go but to do my best to help them, you know?
01:22And so, yeah, it surprises me a little bit too, actually.
01:27Okay.
01:30Matt?
01:31Sorry, Matt.
01:32Hey, guys.
01:32Well done.
01:33Can we talk about the chest bumps?
01:36Like, do you practice those?
01:38Nah, if you see this, if you saw the second one.
01:40One of them looked a little dangerous.
01:42The second one, he almost knocked me out.
01:43So, Andre, did you teach everybody chest bumps?
01:47Like, was this something you're working on during the week, like, spontaneous?
01:51You don't demand things like that.
01:52You earn it, you know?
01:53You earn it.
01:54When you're in war together, you earn it.
01:56Yeah.
01:57Things of the moment.
01:57I mean, just go and it happens.
02:00I mean, you saw Riley doing like this when he was playing, he jumped.
02:03Then the chest bump.
02:05I mean, it's the vibe team, I think.
02:07That's what is good about us.
02:09And then just one other question, sort of on your energy.
02:14What you're feeling out there and your approach.
02:19You've done some coaching before with a few players here and there.
02:24Like, does it make you want to do more coaching?
02:27I know this is completely different.
02:29But does it feel completely differently to be coaching this team versus, you know,
02:34the work you've done with individual players?
02:36Well, I think it's rewarding in a different way, right?
02:38I mean, like when you work with an individual player, you know,
02:41it's not about energy.
02:43It's not about understanding them, about, you know,
02:45really being able to help direct, hopefully, the identity of their game
02:48as they look long-term.
02:50But also maybe some short-term tools to help them execute the things
02:54that you envision they're more capable of, right?
02:57And here it's about, you know, honestly, if there's anything I hope any player
03:01takes away is that, you know, I don't take anything for granted on the tennis court,
03:05you know, nor should you.
03:07It's like you can't say which point's more important than the next
03:11until the match is over with and you're looking back, right?
03:14We can think, oh, it's a set point.
03:15I mean, all right, break point is the most important point.
03:18And it's like, you don't know that.
03:19I mean, you know, he could be serving his – what's his name?
03:26Remind me who you played again?
03:27Yeah, ruin it.
03:28Yeah.
03:28Yeah, so Holger could be serving 5-4, 40-love.
03:33He could grind out, you know, 10 balls on the defense, fight for it,
03:36end up winning the point.
03:37Double fall, good shot.
03:39Deuce, break his serve.
03:40Guy gets pissed, throws away his serve.
03:427-5, 6-2.
03:43The most important point was 5-4, 40-love that you didn't stop, right?
03:47So I hope they take away just how important it is to be locked on,
03:50present tense, all the time.
03:52You returned very well today, especially those second serve points.
04:01But you didn't hit a lot of return winners.
04:03So how did you build those points?
04:07Well, I mean, I wasn't aiming to return winners.
04:10I tried to put pressure on him and look for a next second good shot.
04:15I mean, that's what I was trying to do.
04:18And so I think I returned quite well, but I played better the next shots.
04:23I mean, you know, I created good points.
04:25I built the points really good, tried to stay there,
04:29wait for the correct ball to attack.
04:30And I think I did it quite okay with my forehand.
04:37If Andre says that, okay, I'll take it.
04:40Fran, everybody on the team has been talking about
04:44how they want to pick the brains of Andre and Pat.
04:47And I was wondering, how was the conversation about tactics before the match?
04:51And was there something that you wanted to get from Andre
04:55before going to the court?
04:58Well, I mean, yeah, they're both great players.
05:01It's incredible how he and Pat, how they see the game.
05:06They see it so easy and so clear that I'm trying to take those things for them.
05:11It doesn't matter who I play, the tactics or whatever.
05:13I mean, how they see the game, how they want me to play
05:16or they know how the other guys play.
05:19And so it's incredible.
05:21I think it was more important for me,
05:24the thing that they, Andre and Pat, were talking to me during practices
05:28about my shots, about what should I improve or work on.
05:32And I think that those are the most important thing than a tactic on a match, right?
05:40Just a follow-up to that question.
05:43Coaching is now allowed in ATP tour matches.
05:46I'm curious how the coaching you receive in an event like this
05:50is different than what you'd receive in a tournament.
05:52Is it easier to make adjustments mid-match when you have your coach courtside?
05:57But how does the coaching impact, how is the coaching different here versus other events?
06:03Well, actually, I think it's a little bit loud now, the coaching.
06:06I mean, it's not like here because you don't have your coach on the court,
06:09but you can have a little bit of conversation, not like before.
06:13But, yeah, this is different.
06:14This is team events.
06:14You have the coach there.
06:15I mean, it's totally different how you feel.
06:18The talk during the changeover, I mean, it's good because if you are, like, quiet
06:26and, how do you say, peaceful there in the changeover, you can hear many different options
06:30and many different things that the guys are saying or Andre is saying or Pat is saying.
06:35So, I mean, maybe things that you don't realize during the match because from outside,
06:40everything, it's easier, it's better, it's way easier to see.
06:44So, I mean, yeah, I try to take advantage on that.
06:49Okay, we're going to finish things there.
06:50Thanks very much, Francisco and Andre.
06:52We're done.
06:53Thank you.
