03:44c'est absolument first class all the way.
03:47Donc, likewise, j'ai l'impression que j'ai commencé.
03:52Perfect.
03:52Casper, firstly, congratulations sur l'annoncement de la nouvelle famille qui est venu.
03:57Merci.
03:58The first question is, have you thought about how that might be going to change everything for you
04:02as you start travelling the world with a young one?
04:07No, you know, honestly, I have not really.
04:10No, I had, yeah, let's just say I didn't play Wimbledon this year
04:16and it was time to do something different.
04:17So, we got something special coming next year, yeah.
04:20I just did some off-court work and we're ready for next year, exciting next year.
04:27So, that's why you didn't take it?
04:28Yeah, that's why I didn't go to Wimbledon, if anyone wondered.
04:31Priorities, priorities.
04:33And just a tennis question as well about the event.
04:36You've been in the event before, you know what it's all about.
04:38And explain how important it is to you to play well here.
04:43Yeah, it's really fun and I'm excited to get started tomorrow for the team
04:48and I have some experience doing that in the past
04:50and I look forward to doing it again
04:55and hopefully get Team Europe off to a good start.
04:57Fun with some new boys on the team.
04:59Three of them are rookies, as we maybe would say in Davis Cup terms,
05:03but we can bring it on here and Carlos and Sasha and I will try to guide them
05:09and be there for them if they need it.
05:11But they're great players and they'll do just fine, I think, on the team
05:16and great to have this week around again.
05:19It's really fun for everyone.
05:21And Holger, you're one of the rookies, so to speak.
05:23I mean, you were meant to be on the court in Vancouver,
05:26didn't quite make it through injury.
05:27So, I know you've been excited about coming into it, you've watched it.
05:31What's it like to be here for the first time?
05:32Yeah, very excited to be here.
05:34It's an amazing event and, you know, to be around the team is really cool.
05:38You know, all the guys are very nice and we've had some nice trainings
05:42and dinners and everything together.
05:44So, I feel very privileged to be here.
05:46It's a beautiful event.
05:48So, you know, tomorrow we get started, so hopefully we can do very well.
05:53Points earner here at the event, 21.
05:56It's quite the record.
05:57You've had a long association with it
06:00and now you are more of a team leader.
06:02You like being in that position?
06:05Well, I mean, it's great to be part of the team,
06:08but I think all the boys here and everybody knows how to play tennis
06:11and nobody really needs a leader here.
06:14I think everybody is doing just fine on their own.
06:17But, yeah, we talked about it last night at dinner.
06:19This event is very different.
06:20and the intensity of it, the competition is just different towards other tournaments.
06:27So, if anybody needs advice or needs anything to talk about,
06:31I'm always here for the boys.
06:32But, yeah, I think everybody...
06:35Five rookies.
06:40Five rookies, yeah.
06:41You've got a big job ahead of you, Sasha.
06:43I'm just happy to be here.
06:45Great to have you here.
06:46And, Carlos, great to have you here after another Grand Slam title at the US Open.
06:50I guess a lot of people are interested in how the break was
06:53and then getting back into serious tennis again.
06:57What?
06:57Sorry?
06:59There you go.
07:00How was your break after winning the US Open?
07:03No, it was great.
07:08I mean, I think it was needed to have some days before or after the US Open
07:15before here.
07:17So, I just tried to be in a good shape, you know, in that week before coming here.
07:23So, for me, it's just great.
07:27So, I have battery enough just to pull it off, you know,
07:33a good thing here in the Lever Cup
07:36and let's see how it's going to be these days.
07:39Fantastic.
07:40I'm going to open it up to the floor now
07:42and I'll pass to our team to hand you the microphone.
07:45So, we'd like a question here.
07:52Hello.
07:52Jessica Lesson from the Information and Racket magazine.
07:55Carlos, you're here in the Bay Area
07:57in San Francisco.
07:58Are you meeting with any tech leaders
08:00and have you had a chance to see the new meta glasses
08:03that have screens?
08:05And I'm wondering if you think they might be useful for tennis.
08:11What?
08:12Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:13I didn't get it.
08:14Honestly.
08:15Yeah, I did.
08:16You're in Silicon Valley.
08:18Technology.
08:20Are you meeting with any tech leaders while you're here
08:23and what do you think of being in the Bay Area?
08:25Do you know what Silicon Valley is, Carlos?
08:28No.
08:28No?
08:28No, okay.
08:29It's like the Concord.
08:31He's too young.
08:32It's like the Concord.
08:33He's too young.
08:34I told you it was only me.
08:36No, no, I still didn't get it.
08:38The question, so I don't know.
08:39To be honest, so what is this?
08:42I don't understand.
08:43I understand the question, but I don't understand what it is.
08:47He loves the meta glasses.
08:48He loves the new technology.
08:50He's met with all the world leaders.
08:53He shook hands with them, and he's part of Apple's from tomorrow onwards.
08:57I don't know if I should know that, the meta glasses, so I haven't, I mean, I'm going to be honest.
09:06I haven't tried that, so I don't know what it is, to be honest.
09:11Just say it's great.
09:12It's great.
09:13It's a great thing.
09:14Thank you very much.
09:15Don't worry.
09:16Thank you.
09:19Yeah, thank you, man.
09:20Carlos, can you describe, with your captain sitting right next to you, can you describe Yannick Noah, the relationship with him, and for people who have never met him, never, you know, know about his legacy.
09:32Yes, Carlos, you need to be nice.
09:33He's sitting right next to you.
09:34How would you describe Yannick Noah to people who have never met him?
09:39I'm sweating right now, Yannick.
09:42No, it's great, you know, the relationship.
09:46I mean, I don't know if I, could I say, could I be nice or not, Yannick?
09:51Be nice otherwise you don't care.
09:54No, it's a great relationship so far.
09:57You know, the first time that I met him was last year in the Lever Cup.
10:00I had the chance to meet him, not that much, but just a little bit, and it was nice.
10:07And then the days that I've been here, I think it's, I mean, he has a great, great energy.
10:13He's funny as well.
10:17He's telling good histories of the court, which is great.
10:22And then, you know, on court, I think it's, as I said, it's great energy.
10:27For me and I think for the team, it's great to have that good vibes, good energy before the practices,
10:33before the matches, which I think him and Tim, we have a really good team that they are going to guide us in the best way.
10:48Thank you.
10:49Cindy, appreciate it.
10:51Hi, guys.
10:51I think I know everybody, but I'm Cindy Schmerler from The New York Times.
10:54And really, this is for anybody and everybody, and I'm wondering, as we come into the end part of the season
11:00and the majors are all over and everybody's kind of tired and a little bit worn out,
11:04we saw so many injuries at the U.S. Open and retirements and missing some key players here.
11:10I'm wondering, is there anything that can be done to make the end of the season not so hard and to prevent injuries?
11:19Are you building your own schedules?
11:20Do you have the luxury of doing that, or is the tour set up so that you can't do that?
11:27Who wants to go first?
11:29I've talked too much already.
11:31It doesn't have to be you, Carlos.
11:33It could be somebody else.
11:34Sasha, you want to start?
11:37Do you want me to start?
11:38You are the leader of the team.
11:39I'm not the leader of anything.
11:41It's my first year on the tour, so I cannot answer.
11:45I guess I've been on the tour the longest.
11:48No, I mean, it's an ongoing discussion.
11:50I think nothing has changed over the last few months.
11:54I think we've all said it.
11:58It feels like we're playing more and more, and our schedule is more dense than ever.
12:02I've personally always felt like tennis deserves a proper off-season.
12:09Tennis deserves a proper vacation after the season is done and a proper training time, which we don't really have.
12:16You know, if we're playing Davis Cup, or I always take the example of Alex Dimonor.
12:21He played his last match in Davis Cup last year, I think the 27th of November, and played the first match at the United Cup the 27th of December.
12:28So you don't really have time to go on for a two-week vacation and then to not play tennis, to build your body for the following season, and then to build a tennis base for the Australian Open.
12:45So for me, it's just too dense, too much from start to finish, because we're starting the season with a Grand Slam, we're finishing the season with the World to Final.
12:56So there's not really, you know, you can't really say, I'm taking the first month of the season off, I'm taking the last month of the season off.
13:03So that's my opinion, I don't know how everybody else feels, but I would just wish for everybody, especially for the young guys here who will be on tour for the next 15 years, that they're going to get proper rest time at the end of the year.
13:18That's my thought on it.
13:23Totally agree.
13:24I'm agree.
13:26I'm agree.
13:29I'm agree.
13:31What does that mean?
13:33Hey guys, this is Jim Harrington from the Bay Area News Group.
13:38For the Wiley veterans, Sasha, I had a question for you.
13:41Since you've been around with so many of these Labor Cups, I'm wondering if there is anything like a home court advantage, sort of like Davis Cup or anything like that, or when you're playing the U.S. Open, when you're playing American, the crowd will really get on that.
13:53And if so, is that a disadvantage for you guys playing here in San Francisco?
13:58Yeah, I definitely think there's home court advantage in the Labor Cup.
14:01We felt it extremely last year when we played in Berlin.
14:06You know, we were down all the way until basically the last match, and the crowd really pushed us through some of those matches.
14:14And I really think that now, after eight years, you know, the Labor Cup is something that the crowd really enjoys.
14:22And they really, not only cheer for their favorite player, but they cheer for wherever they're from.
14:27So, I definitely think that there is home court advantage, and we understand that it's going to be for Team World this year.
14:34But we also understand that throughout the entire year, you know, except if you're called Carlos Alcaraz, you don't have home court advantage anywhere.
14:44You know, when he plays, everybody's kind of, he's the fan favorite.
14:48But, so, we have a great team.
14:52We have a great support within the team.
14:53And I think we've got to feed off that energy.
14:57Thank you very much.
14:57Hi, guys.
14:59Bill Simons, Inside Tennis.
15:01And this is a two-part question.
15:04Maybe the first part, maybe for Sasha and Yannick.
15:07The second part, for you, Carlos.
15:09In our sport, we see lots of great matches.
15:12But once in a while, we get a match that just transcends the sport, is magical, so special.
15:19And, of course, we had that in the French final this year.
15:22My first part of the question is, what do you think that match did for our sport?
15:28And then for you, Carlos, what did you feel when you were trying to save those two championship points
15:34and then when you scored that incredible comeback at Roland Garros?
15:40Yannick, you want to go?
15:42Well, you know, there are, as you know, you know you've been there a long time.
15:47Like three, four years ago, all we thought as tennis fans that we thought, you know,
15:52after Roger, Rafa, and Joko, you know, after their time,
15:58it's going to be a little hole, a long hole, what's going to happen.
16:02And next thing you know, here are these champions coming.
16:06You know, a lot of people, and I'm not such a great technician, really,
16:10but I really believe in the energy that they bring
16:12because they are such interesting and different characters out there.
16:16and very, very popular, you know, for the tennis fan.
16:21And, of course, they're playing great tennis, of course.
16:24I mean, we all know that.
16:26But it's also the personalities that people like, you know, to see the difference of personality.
16:31And even within the team, what I really appreciate and I like
16:34is the fact that I can meet different guys.
16:37They are so all different.
16:39The journeys are different.
16:40They come from different countries.
16:42and that's what makes the circuit attractive.
16:46You know, right now, we've seen a lot of Carlos with Yannick and Sasha
16:52and most of the guys here.
16:55But, like, what's interesting is that they're so different.
16:57So, you know, you're going to go see the show.
16:59You don't know what show you're going to really see.
17:01You know, you don't know.
17:02You know, well, you know.
17:03And the level is amazing.
17:06So that's what makes it interesting.
17:07I mean, I don't think anybody saw much of me in the last six months, but thank you.
17:20No, I mean, look, the French Open final, yes.
17:23I think it was a tennis match that, in many ways, we have never seen before.
17:30Just from the speed, just the way tennis has been played, yes,
17:34we've had great champions in the last 15 years in great matches with Rafa, Roger, Novak.
17:39You know, there were some tennis matches there that will be remembered for the rest of our lives.
17:45But the way tennis has been played in this French Open final,
17:49that was something that we've never seen before.
17:51Not, like, good or bad, or just the style of tennis, in my opinion.
17:57And it was great to see, great to watch.
18:01And, yeah, those two guys, Carlos and Yannick, right now,
18:07they're ahead of everybody else.
18:10And I think it's our job from everybody else to catch up
18:15and to be on that level and try to compete with them.
18:21And, you know, this year, nobody could do it.
18:28You know, hopefully, in my own perspective,
18:33we can be or we will be able to do it more next year.
18:39Well, yeah, for me, I was, yeah, I remember, obviously,
18:43the feeling that I had, you know, in that match,
18:46that I was playing great, you know,
18:49until that match ball zone.
18:55I felt like it was about details that it is that score.
19:01And, you know, what I can say,
19:04just I believed all the time that I was able to combat,
19:08that I was able to win that match.
19:10And I think that that's the most important thing for my perspective,
19:16just to believe all the time, not to give up,
19:19just to keep trying all the things that you think
19:23it might be the good things, you know, in the match.
19:27Yeah, I thought in that match ball zone
19:32that I was going to win that match.
19:35And I think that that was the best thing
19:37that I could think, you know, in that moment.
19:39And until, you know, a part of that,
19:41I tried to use, you know, the people,
19:44the good source, the good points,
19:46the good rallies to my favour,
19:48just to try to push me up in that moment.
19:51And, you know, after that, everything went great.
19:56Physically, it was really demanding,
19:57but I stayed there all the time
19:59until I really tied that final of five sets.
20:04So it was, as I said, again,
20:06and I think it was all about you to believe.
20:10It was probably the greatest match of all time.
20:13You know, and yes, it was good for tennis, for sure.
20:16I wouldn't say so, but thanks.
20:17No, it was.
20:18You were not born,
20:19but there were some good matches.
20:22But this has to be, you know,
20:25probably, you know,
20:27one of the greatest matches of all time
20:28and definitely a finals
20:29with, like, quality of tennis and drama.
20:32Right, Tim?
20:33Hi, very nice.
20:37Sasha, you've been a part of so many of these teams now,
20:40and I suppose each one sort of develops its own identity.
20:43And I wonder, when you look at this particular group,
20:45how would you characterize this team?
20:47Well, I mean, first of all,
20:54every single team member
20:57and every single player on this team
20:59knows how to win big tournaments
21:01and big titles and big matches.
21:03So for me, you know,
21:06sitting on the bench while watching these guys
21:09is sometimes very, very comfortable, you know,
21:12and I have full trust in every single player.
21:15You know, there have been very different kind of teams.
21:20You know, the first year,
21:21I remember when the Labour Cup happened,
21:24you know, being part of a team with Roger and Raph
21:27as somebody that I grew up watching all my life
21:30and idolizing them.
21:33It was also special.
21:34You know, it was extremely special.
21:36But, you know, I believe that this team can beat anyone.
21:40Hi, I'm Alex Hosenza from UOL in Brazil.
21:48Being from Brazil, I have to ask Flavio,
21:50you're scheduled to play Fonseca tomorrow.
21:53You've played him before.
21:55How have you seen his evolution,
21:58his moving up in the rankings,
21:59and what do you expect about tomorrow's match?
22:01No, I think everyone knows the potential of Joao.
22:07So I think he's a great player,
22:10but we are here to try to beat him.
22:12And I hope for the health of the team on the bench,
22:19and I will try to do my best.
22:21I will give my 100% tomorrow to try to beat him.
22:24Casper, Sasha was talking about
22:28the different level of intensity here.
22:32And I'm wondering how you would describe it,
22:35comparing it to other things.
22:38I just want to give Sasha a break.
22:40He's been talking a lot.
22:41So I'm sort of curious.
22:42Like, you've been around a few of these different teams.
22:46So I'm sort of curious, like,
22:48how you would describe the level of intensity here
22:51and how you approach it
22:52and what it's like to sit on the bench
22:54and be on the court.
22:55Yeah, it's a little extra pressure
22:59because you feel like you're playing
23:00also for your teammates and your captains.
23:01So you want to give your best.
23:04I've been on winning side of matches here
23:06and losing side,
23:07and winning is a much better feeling, obviously.
23:09And we were...
23:12I've played times where it's been blowout both ways.
23:15I've played times where we were leading,
23:16going into day three and lost.
23:18And last year we were down,
23:20going into day three and one.
23:21So it's a really, really nice kind of feeling of relief
23:27if you get it done,
23:28both in your match
23:29but also the whole Labour Cup.
23:32So it's different kind of...
23:35Yeah, nerves will get there definitely from tomorrow on.
23:38And you think it'll be a long weekend no matter what.
23:42And many of the matches go to a third set breaker
23:44and a match tiebreaker.
23:45So it'll come down to whoever performs the best
23:48at the most important points.
23:51And that's where you'd like to show up
23:54and play good for your team.
23:56But yeah, you feel the pressure a little extra here.
23:58This one.
23:59The last question, please.
24:00Thank you.
24:01Ian Killian with the San Francisco Chronicle.
24:03Carlos, as people have mentioned,
24:05there was the thought that there would be this big void
24:07when the big three's time was finished with.
24:10and you've kind of stepped in and filled that.
24:12I'm wondering how much responsibility do you feel
24:15to uphold that legacy?
24:17Those guys were not only great players
24:19but great ambassadors for the game.
24:21And does that put a little extra pressure on you?
24:26Not really.
24:27I don't think about being the best ambassador for tennis
24:34and have the pressure to do it.
24:37It's just, I mean, I think we all, tennis players in general,
24:46are the ambassadors of tennis just to do great tennis
24:51and engage the people to watch tennis.
24:53You know, obviously I try my best in every match.
24:58I like and I love playing tennis.
25:01That's why I just play with such a good joy
25:04and that smile.
25:06And I like playing great shots, great points
25:09and try to show that in the matches.
25:14And I think those points, those shots,
25:17those matches against the people to watch tennis
25:22because it's something, I would say, different.
25:25But it's not something that I do it
25:29because I have to engage the people.
25:32It's because I just love doing those things.
25:35So I don't feel the pressure at all.
25:38I just, I'm thinking about myself,
25:41about enjoy as much as I can every time
25:44that I step on the court, that I go to the tournaments.
25:47that, you know, I love when I see the people
25:50and enjoy watching tennis.
25:51And for me, that's the most important feeling.
25:55And that's all I try to do.
25:59Thank you.
