00:30Spirit, would you please put your hands once more together for these two amazing teams?
00:39But now, it's my pleasure to introduce the only man to have won two calendar slams.
00:50Eleven-time major winner, and the reason that the cup exists.
00:54Would you please show your appreciation for the legend, Rod Laver?
01:00Thank you.
01:01Thank you.
01:02Thank you.
01:03Thank you.
01:07Thank you.
01:08Thank you.
01:09Thank you.
01:10Thank you.
01:11Thank you.
01:13Thank you.
01:14Thank you.
01:15Thank you.
01:16Thank you.
01:17Thank you.
01:18Thank you.
01:19Thank you.
01:20Thank you.
01:21Thank you.
01:22Thank you.
01:23Well, as it always does, this eighth edition of the Labor Cup has delivered some incredible
01:36moments.
01:37There is plenty of drama.
01:38There is plenty of drama.
01:39The atmosphere at the Chase Centre has been extraordinary, and it's brought together by
01:44these two legendary captains.
01:46They made their debut here, and they have done it beautifully.
01:49and it's brought together to the team.
01:50Let's go to the team.
01:51Please put your hands together for Yannick Noah and Andre Agassi.
01:52Unfortunately, though, the reality of sport means that there can only be one winner.
02:09So please, put your hands together for our runners-up here, Team Europe, led by Yannick Noah.
02:22And that, of course, means that for the third time here at the Labour Cup, your champions are Team World.
02:31Led by Captain Andre Agassi, Vice-Captain Patrick Rafter, Taylor Fritz, Alex Dimonor, Francisco
02:48Sorondolo, Alex Mickelson, Jao Fonseca, Riley Opelka, and Jenson Brooksby.
03:01Well, a big thank you must also go to the players.
03:04They make the Labour Cup a success, and they've now helped it to solidify on the world tennis calendar.
03:10We want to thank them for their commitment, their camaraderie, but a lot goes on behind
03:14the scenes also to make this all work so seamlessly.
03:18So a big thank you must also go to the Global Labour Cup team, led by the CEO of Team 8 and
03:23Chairman of Labour Cup, Tony Godzik.
03:26The Labour Cup CEO, Steve Zaks.
03:29The USTA Chairman of the Board, President, Interim Co-CEO, Brian Vahali.
03:35The USTA Interim Co-CEO, Andrea Hirsch.
03:38Tennis Australia Chair, Jane Hurdlicker.
03:40And Tennis Australia CEO, Craig Tarley.
03:43Time now also to thank our sponsors, in particular our founding partner Rolex and global sponsors
03:56UBS, Mercedes-Benz and Alipay Plus.
03:59But before we award the Labour Cup trophy for 2025, let's look to next year, and we'll find
04:10out where that Labour Cup travel continues, and we'll look at where we land.
04:15Hello everyone, I'm Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London.
04:19I want to congratulate San Francisco and the team at Chase Centre for staging another spectacular
04:26Labour Cup.
04:27Over the past eight years, this tournament has lit up cities from Prague to Boston, Vancouver
04:34to Berlin, London, Geneva, Chicago and now San Francisco.
04:38Thrilling fans and deepening the love of tennis around the globe.
04:43London was honoured to host the fifth edition of the tournament at the O2 in 2022, and we're
04:49proud and excited to be hosting the Labour Cup again next year.
04:53and look forward to welcoming fans from around the world back to London.
04:57See you there.
05:05Well, we can't wait to get back to London to the O2 Arena.
05:07Of course, it gets underway September 25 to 27 in 2026.
05:12We'll see you there.
05:13But before we do that, it's time now to hear from the runner-up captain of Team Europe,
05:17Yannick Noah.
05:17Team World, you know what I like about you?
05:34Nothing.
05:34Nothing.
05:34Congratulations, guys.
05:42For me, as a captain for the first time, it was a beautiful experience.
05:48I really am thankful and grateful to be here.
05:52I met these wonderful guys.
05:54I know, I don't know if you liked it, but three days of unbelievable tennis.
05:59So, it's a lot of respect for you guys.
06:01It was fantastic.
06:09Todd, how long do I have?
06:14Yeah?
06:15Well, I had a wonderful time, really.
06:18I had a wonderful time, wonderful week.
06:19I would like to give a special thank to someone who's been taking care of us.
06:25And I tell you, taking care of Europe is not easy.
06:29I'm calling.
06:31I would like to thank.
06:32Can you please scream for Monique?
06:35Make some noise, San Francisco!
06:56Andre, congratulations.
06:58Happy to see you again, even though it reminds me of memory when you used to kick my ass.
07:09My bud.
07:11Are we live?
07:12Sorry.
07:14Pat, all the guys, congratulations.
07:17I'll see you at the party.
07:19That's for you to talk now.
07:34Okay, I'm going to pass the microphone to Andre Agassi.
07:46I think that's better for you, Andre.
07:48Ladies and gentlemen, Andre Agassi, the captain of Team Lowell.
07:58I'm not insecure.
07:59I'm used to being the shortest one on a tennis court, so...
08:03Actually, Todd, I don't...
08:05I mean, I might...
08:06Yeah, I'm not anymore.
08:07Thank you.
08:10The first thing I want to say to Team Europe,
08:13I mean, it is such an honor to sit on the side of the court
08:19and watch you guys do what you do.
08:22I mean, it's remarkable,
08:24and I love every second of it.
08:26And I wish you the brightest futures and...
08:38Carlos, don't be so greedy with all the Grand Slams.
08:42I mean, share some with your brothers, for God's sake.
08:45I mean, and speaking of brothers,
08:52to my brothers right here,
08:54Pat, it was an honor to be back with you.
09:00This is a guy that I love competing against
09:05because even if I lost, somehow the sport won.
09:10And you're an amazing dude, amazing athlete,
09:14but a better person,
09:15and it's great to be with you.
09:16And to the rest of my dear brothers,
09:19I will say to you that it's been one hell of a week.
09:22Thank you for trust.
09:25Thank you for buy-in.
09:27Thank you for allowing me in your lives
09:31for a brief period of time.
09:32And I say you have mother privileges now in my life,
09:35so what mother privileges means is
09:37you call, you ask,
09:39and the answer is yes before you ask.
09:41I would go to battle with each and every one of you
09:44anywhere, anytime.
09:46Love you guys.
09:50I mean that.
09:55To the Rocket, Rod,
09:58I love you too, man.
10:00You've been the best for our game.
10:04As good as you were on the court,
10:05off of it, you've inspired,
10:08you've inspired more.
10:09So thank you for your contribution.
10:12And continue contribution.
10:20I continue,
10:22I continue my record
10:23of never losing to a Frenchman
10:25and a Brit on the same day.
10:26but it was an honor trying.
10:30I guess none of this happens
10:33without so much behind the scenes.
10:35So Tony Gottsig,
10:36thank you so much for vision
10:38and somehow pulling off this miracle
10:40for the last seven years.
10:42also Steve Sachs.
10:44I mean,
10:45God,
10:45he does,
10:46he's been,
10:48dude,
10:48I don't know how you do it.
10:49I didn't believe it.
10:50I swear to you,
10:51I didn't believe it
10:52when you told me
10:53what,
10:53how this all comes together.
10:55I said,
10:55I called bullshit on it.
10:56I really did.
10:58I said,
10:58we're going to get here
10:59and things are going to go wrong
11:00and it's just too much.
11:01I can't,
11:01I can't imagine,
11:02but you pull it off
11:03each and every year
11:04and thank you for trusting me
11:06with this small responsibility.
11:11And last but,
11:12last but not least,
11:13I think,
11:14I think we're scheduled
11:16to beat you guys again
11:16in London now.
11:17Is that right?
11:19See you in London.
11:20See you in London.
11:20Well,
11:26that means there's only
11:27one thing left to do here today
11:29and that is time
11:30to raise the Labour Cup.
11:32Andre,
11:32it's over to you
11:33and the team.
11:34The trophy is yours.
11:50Thank you.
12:08Thank you.
16:14And that was all Europe.
16:16So this is certainly a good feeling, I'm sure, for the American men on this team.
16:21And Alex Diminar did his part as well.
16:23He's got that for sure.
16:25It was awesome.
16:29It really, it always is.
16:31This event never disappoints.
16:33The energy levels are always there from the team benches.
16:35The opportunity to eavesdrop into important moments and matches is so fascinating to be a witness to these players and their thoughts and doubts and stresses and strains.
16:47And then their coaches and their fellow peers and rivals trying to help them problem solve in really mission-critical times.
16:56It's a special sauce for a special event.
16:59Team World just doing their lap off honour.
17:03Now the two captains, the vice-captain Pat Rafter and the captain Andre Agassi.
17:09It's been a while since the two of them have lifted the trophy.
17:12Must be feeling pretty good.
17:14For some of us, perhaps it's been a lifetime.
17:17Yeah.
17:18But for these two.
17:19I haven't lifted many.
17:20That trophy is going to be filled with some champagne, I feel, fairly soon after they get a few more photos on court.
17:26There's probably a Moet moment heading their way.
17:29But these moments are the moments that you dream of, honestly.
17:33Even if this event didn't exist when you were a kid, to have moments like this with teammates and to have these celebrations together, they're just different.
17:41Tennis is an individual sport most weeks of the season.
17:44When you get a chance to do something together, it just hits differently and you carry these moments forever.
17:50These players are wearing those jackets right now.
17:52I guarantee you when they're 65 years old, those jackets will be hanging in a closet somewhere.
17:57You don't give those moments away.
17:59I was lucky enough to be on some teams.
18:01I still have all of that gear.
18:03They're in boxes, but they're still with me.
18:05They'll get passed down.
18:06It's like the wedding dress.
18:08You have it in a box and you don't give it away.
18:10I didn't have one of those, Babs.
18:11You speak for yourself.
18:12Of course not.
18:13But Mark, how much confidence do the players take away from this?
18:18I mean, especially Team World here.
18:20They're going to take a lot of confidence, but let's go to the 10,000 view as well.
18:26This competition is just growing in stature.
18:30The authenticity of all the emotions that we see every single time a new edition of this is played.
18:36How close we got to obviously a deciding set for this year's Lever Cup.
18:40And obviously after the first five editions where it was Team Europe just running through Team World in so many ways.
18:46The fact that this has got that pure edge of competition.
18:50You feel as though it's on a knife edge in terms of who can win and who can lose.
18:54Good decisions made in terms of team captains.
18:57Jim touched on it.
18:58You know, it was the practice absolutely spot on.
19:01You know the X's and O's are going to get taken care of with Andre.
19:04You've got somebody like Pat who really, I felt, came into his own when it came into the doubles.
19:09He was so on point when it got to the doubles strategy as well.
19:13Andre, as Jim again said, that portal that we get here at Lever Cup where you're just dipping in
19:19and you're listening into how he's trying to figure out solutions for his players
19:23or just keep them right on the rails and keep them going straight down the path they are
19:28without taking a detour or a deviation away from it
19:32has just been a beautiful thing to watch.
19:34And I'm sure the fans out there as well as the players are just learning every time this competition gets underway.
19:40Yeah, I mean, I can't wait.
19:41I can't believe that we have to wait a whole year for the next Lever Cup.
19:45I mean, I'm going to count down the days from tomorrow onwards.
19:48And I think also for not just for the players, for some of them, they have been around.
19:53They've played the Lever Cup already, but just for the captains.
19:55This has been an enormous and unbelievable experience as well.
19:59And Jim, just going back to Andre Agassi and Pat Rafter and, of course, Tim Henman, Yannick Nohr,
20:05they were so passionate about it.
20:08They were so invested in it.
20:10They just loved it as well because they didn't really know what they were in for.
20:14Sometimes in the beginning, first few days, I'm not sure if they were aware of the whole format.
20:19They learned on the fly, didn't they?
20:22Tim Henman, God bless him, was so into it.
20:25He's lost his voice from shouting so much encouragement to his team.
20:28But his back is strong because he was up off the bench after nearly every single point just offering that signal that he was in it with him.
20:36And Yannick Nohr is so cool and experienced.
20:39And he laid kind of the groundwork for how he was going to approach things, which was going to be a little bit with a softer touch.
20:46And that's the way that he brings it.
20:48But Yannick, the passion never in question.
20:51And he was definitely willing to get in there more than I would have expected.
20:54Yep.
20:55And offer not just tactical advice, also technical at times, telling players what they needed to do with their body weight on shots.
21:04Yannick, he's become a massive pop star in the French-speaking language parts of the world, selling out arenas this size.
21:12Yep.
21:13Bigger, even.
21:14He has a way with people, and he connects to people in masses.
21:19But he can get intimate as well, and he did with his team, and it was special to be a witness to that.
21:23Thank you.
21:24Thanks.
