00:00CSIR has around 37 laboratories across India and it is an R&D intensive organization of
00:08eminence and it works in interdisciplinary sciences with five different disciplines that
00:15is engineering information chemical physical and biological so we are panic pan India spread
00:21across and we our USP is this that we cut across disciplines and we can really deliver better in
00:29terms of solutions in S&T area ma'am as we all know research and development is core of every area
00:36any area we talk about what is your take on research and development on this gap between
00:43sustainable development and green jobs oh yes R&D is no different from any other field and we have
00:52to take into account the sustainability factor into all our product development or the process
00:59development because as long as you don't have the lifecycle assessment of every process or the
01:05product you know you are endeavor is incomplete you know whatever you're coming out with that
01:12innovation is incomplete until unless you do that so earlier we were looking only into the techno
01:17commercial aspects to be cost competitive but right now we take into consideration the sustainability
01:22aspect such that you know we do not we lead to waste generation or effluent generation in terms of
01:30processes because it's important for us to be contribute in a sustainable manner and this is where comes the
01:40zero liquid discharge processes and this is where comes integration of several processes and optimal process optimization
01:49to include sustainability into everything what we do be it if you talk about chemistry green solutions mean atom economy
01:58reduce some of the atoms and reduce the number of unit operations or include more green solvents such that you do not
02:07contribute to those volatile organics that go into the environment so there are many aspects in every which way we are trying to be sustainable
02:15despite the demanding R&D that we need to do for evolution of new solutions and novel solutions this is an embedded part of the process of innovation
02:27as our theme of today's event is about sustainable education and green jobs after that do you think as your expertise into this thing do you think this should be a core subject like maths and science and other subjects we teach in our Indian schools
02:44Yes it should be that's what we were discussing in the previous session also because the curriculum what we had been exposed to is outdated now I mean not the core subjects but in the sense you rework at it in the perspective of today's era where sustainability becomes the core and integrated pattern of any of the science subjects or the mathematics you are learning
03:12So if you do not integrate that then you know you are not creating that competence in the students so that what is green jobs green jobs is nothing but you know you are being more conscious sustainably and you are evolving or coming up with solutions that are sustainable so those are called green jobs green chemistry or green solutions when you say it is that so these circular economy solutions when you are part of automatically you are generating green jobs
03:40So I don't really like the term green jobs but I would say that they are into such kind of careers where they are conscious of what they are contributing to the environment and the people at large in the society which is not being affected due to this innovation or a solution that consciousness of environment energy and
04:10the society at large you know non non damaging kind of thing which is cradle to cradle we say that when you come up with something anything that is a byproduct should also be put into the system for reuse and recycle and embed it into another product development this is how you look at a holistic solution so that's where I would say green jobs
04:34There are many coming up so there are many coming up so there is no doubt for green jobs all those who want to have different walks of life can actually embark on this particular aspect as their core aspect and there is a lot to learn and you know give to the society and the environment and to this planet we were once upon a time calling it green planet right so we have to make it green and this planet is in our hands we have to protect it
