00:00I'm standing here at the India Energy Week 2026 in Goa.
00:19At India Energy Week 2026, public sector energy major signals strong momentum through strategic
00:29partnerships aimed at strengthening India's energy infrastructure and security.
00:35India Energy Week 2026 in Goa was by all means the talk of the town.
00:41It was not just as a conference but a defining moment for India's energy strategy.
00:48Policy makers, global CEOs, investors and innovators came under one roof to chart a bold
00:55and pragmatic roadmap for the nation's energy future.
01:00The message from the summit was crystal clear.
01:03India is no longer merely participating in the global energy transition, it is actively
01:08shaping it.
01:09From hydrocarbons to hydrogen, from gas to green fuels, India presented a balanced, inclusive
01:15and scalable energy vision to the world.
01:19At the heart of India Energy Week was Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement that
01:24India's energy sector offers up to USD 500 billion in investment opportunities across
01:31oil, gas, LNG and clean fuels.
01:34Plans to expand refining capacity aim to position India as the world's leading refining hub and
01:40a major energy exporter.
03:26इसने मेरा आवान है, make in India, innovate in India, scale with India, invest in India।
03:34इस अगरव के साथ, मैं आप सभी को India energy विक्की अनेक अनेक शुपकामनाई देता हूं।
03:42बहुत बहुत धन्यवार।
03:44Union Minister, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, also underlined India's approach,
03:52expanding clean fuels without disrupting affordability, reliability or energy access,
03:58while keeping rural development and self-reliance at the core.
04:02India wants to interact in a very integrated manner on energy issues with other countries,
04:08those countries are equally keen, so that's what brings, you know, in many, many countries,
04:15the energy sector is in the pure private sector, it's not a state sector, some there are state,
04:22but today we have the happy situation that all companies dealing with different parts of the energy,
04:29situation producers, different parts of the supply chain, upstream, downstream,
04:34they all think that it is worth their while to take part in a platform like India Energy Week,
04:41because they meet their counterparts, they can get new ideas, they meet youngsters, start-ups,
04:46and they can conduct and transact business.
04:49So what about the clean fuels that we're talking about, we're talking about biogas,
04:52we're talking about CBG expansion, IJL is just signed, the MOU, so can we talk about the different mix?
04:58No, this is all, you should be ready for the situation that whilst we move from one to the other,
05:04we've already got 20% biofuel blending, we are also going into compressed natural gas,
05:09we are going into CBG, we had a two-day conference, ma'am, on CBG,
05:14and based on that, my ministry will draft a new policy for the government.
05:20Prime Minister's absolutely high priority prime minister gives to this sector,
05:28and I think it's absolutely right, because it also helps the rural economy.
05:31Sir, what about green hydrogen? Can we talk?
05:33Green hydrogen is doing well, but in green hydrogen, the price has to come down.
05:37So the price globally was about $4.5 for one kilo.
05:43We have through three tenders succeeded in bringing it down to less than $4.
05:49Once we replicate that on scale, et cetera, and it comes below $3,
05:53then there'll be a massive public policy desire to move to green hydrogen on a really scale.
06:00I mean, we are doing things. Two of our refineries and IOC are using it.
06:04I know that my colleague Ashwani Ji is trying to get a train run on green hydrogen.
06:09We have buses running on green hydrogen, including 15 in Delhi.
06:13I saw a drone here the other day. So I think it's all doing very well.
06:17The partners and stakeholders also shared their views.
06:21I would like to tell that we got the award for the CGD company of the year.
06:26What that means is it is a space, as you know, where, you know, Maharatna of India are also present.
06:33All IOC, BBC, HBC, Gale, big companies are there along with the smaller ones.
06:39So coming out first in that, speaks of our performance.
06:45As you know, IGL is the largest CGD entity in India in terms of volume of gas being sold.
06:53And going forward, as the Prime Minister said that century belongs to India, we feel that this decade belongs to CGD.
07:02And within that, you know, the maximum growth rate as far as gas is concerned is coming from the CGD sector.
07:10We need the mobility with the transport, where the CNG and LNG will play a major role going forward.
07:17Because if you look at all the themes in the future, be it decarbonization, sustainability, circularity of economy, integrating rural economy, any of the themes you pick up.
07:27CGD is there in that. And it will be center stage, I think, for the next 10, 12 years.
07:33We see the growth and the kind of vision Prime Minister has given to increase the share of gas from 6% to 15%.
07:42So that motivates us to perform better and continue to do this.
07:46And awards like this are the icing on the cake, you can say, that it motivates the team to do better.
07:54You also signed your MOUs yesterday. Can you take us through the details and the sort of impact we can expect?
08:01You see, we have signed 22 MOUs in the field of compressed biogas.
08:06There was a conference, two-day conference on CBG also.
08:09So, as you know, there is a mandate to reach 5% lending in our CGD networks by 2030.
08:19Now, with these MOUs plus the earlier ones, what we have done is, we have secured around 14% of the current capacity.
08:27So, our target is 10%, go to 10%, so 14% and with the growth, we should easily reach 10%.
08:33So, in terms of number, it will be say, you can say that 1000 tons of CBG will be blended in the IGEL network,
08:42which will be around, you can say, 14% on the current consumption.
08:49That means we sell around 10 million.
08:51So, that will be 14%.
08:53And what this is going to do, the bigger picture is that it is going to replace the imported RLNG that the country imports.
09:02So, it's a domestically produced waste-to-energy concept that Prime Minister is repeating or telling everybody to, I mean, take it forward.
09:13So, that is the big picture.
09:15And we must thank the Prime Minister for this, that he is motivating the entire team to do better and better in this way.
09:23We are working very hard to create the fuel of the future, that is the hydrogen, at rates which are commercially viable.
09:32And so that we are able to ensure that our transition from conventional fuel to this is smooth and it is affordable, reachable.
09:40And we are able to take care of the energy needs of the nation.
09:43So, we are working very seriously towards hydrogen.
09:45And the challenge is to bring down the cost.
09:47Because today, it must come down to levels of Rs. 200 per kg or below to make it viable.
09:53That is our effort, though we have made a beginning.
09:56And we are trying to showcase this year, in our stall, our efforts towards hydrogen.
10:01We are putting up a 10 KTA plant at Panipat.
10:04That is one effort.
10:05And then we are also trying to showcase Atma Nirbhar.
10:08Towards that, we are, whatever initiatives that Ineral is taking in that, we are trying to showcase that.
10:13And these are the areas in which we are going to do import substitution.
10:20So, they are also extremely important for taking care of the energy needs of a growing nation like ours.
10:26In which the requirement of energy is massive.
10:28And also to take care of the increasing GDP of the nation, in which we also stand to benefit and grow.
10:36Absolutely.
10:37So, what role, if you can just specify, do you feel Indian oil is going to play in India's transition journey?
10:43Indian oil contributes today about 9% of the total energy of this country.
10:49Our aim is to take this up to 12% in the next few years.
10:53Indian oil being the major energy supply in this country as far as today fuel is concerned.
11:02As far as fuels which are going to be fuels of the future are concerned.
11:06As far as petrochemicals are concerned, which are value-added products to the normal fuels that we use.
11:12Also, we are in a big way into gas now, that is the natural gas.
11:17We are the second largest player.
11:19We are also into ENP, we are into explosives, we are into cryogenic.
11:23So, we are available in the whole spectrum of energy requirements.
11:28And we are moving, ensuring, trying to ensure that we also, while taking care of the transition part,
11:36we also take care of the present-day needs of this nation and the country keeps moving.
11:40In terms of technology and innovation, considering we are standing here right now,
11:44what is most exciting for you at this point of time?
11:47At this point, the most exciting is how to make the hydrogen journey,
11:50hydrogen story viable and affordable in terms of the numbers for this country.
11:57India's public sector majors made it clear.
12:00Hydrogen is no longer a concept, but a scaling reality focused on cost, viability and Atmanirbhar innovation.
12:09Hydrogen is a big thrust area, there is no doubt about it.
12:12And there is a big opportunity in this.
12:14And in fact, Gale is one of the company which has taken this forward steps.
12:21We started producing 4.3 tonne per day.
12:25We have a PEM electrolyzer process of hydrogen and that is located in our Vijaypur plant,
12:35which is a very huge place for gas compression and different pipelines, which is going passing through this place.
12:45And we have LPG production, C2C3 recovery is also happening there.
12:49So it's a very huge plant and this is one of the first of its kind where Jagdishpur pipeline,
12:55which was the first concept of the whole pipeline network established in the country,
13:00was established in a 1700 kilometer pipeline.
13:02But thereafter, one project after another project and the pipelines,
13:07there are many things happening here.
13:08So this is truly speaking, this is the representation of Henry Hub of India.
13:14The motivation of different technology in hydrocarbon sector, especially the AI,
13:19the way AI is being used for processing and hydraulics measuring and, you know,
13:25analyzing the different issues related to, you know, production and deliberations of forward movement.
13:33Also logistics, all these things are being managed through AI, which is,
13:38which was not happening before.
13:39So this is the new thing and it is giving us a very good impetus in terms of,
13:43you know, our future growth also.
13:46So yes, technology is everywhere and we are participating and we are implementing it as much as possible.
13:55Natural gas and hydrogen continue to emerge as critical transition fuels,
14:00supported by technology driven operations and nationwide pipeline infrastructure.
14:05EL has been instrumental in redefining the refinery sector,
14:14especially bringing in new technologies.
14:19Recently, if you have heard about the one of the facility,
14:23which is commissioned for HPCL Visec refinery.
14:27That is the residue of gradation facility.
14:29This is the one of the world's first LC-MAX technology.
14:33And it's mainly for improving the bottom's recoveries up to 95%,
14:44which earlier used to be less than 70%.
14:47So this is one of the major achievement in the recent.
14:50In addition to this, we have many in-house technologies,
14:55which we are providing to the clients.
14:57In HPCL Visec refinery,
14:59we have given the mother unit SIDU-VDU,
15:04which is very energy efficient.
15:06And it has a least energy number,
15:09we can say,
15:10and it is world's most efficient refinery.
15:14In addition to this,
15:15we keep on doing innovation,
15:17especially for improving the energy efficiency across the refinery.
15:21And suggested many solutions to Indian refiners,
15:26which are being implemented across the refinery
15:29for improving the energy numbers.
15:31So would you say these are next emerging technologies,
15:34next-gen like AI?
15:35What would you if you would like to just comment on the level of technologies?
15:41AI is being implemented across the complete value chain,
15:46not only in the project deliveries we are doing,
15:50but across the refinery operations also for improving the asset integrity
15:56and reducing the downtime.
16:01Engineering capability,
16:02digitalization,
16:03and efficiency improvements were positioned
16:05as the backbone of India's energy transition.
16:10This LPG stall is showcasing refilling facilities.
16:14It's under approval.
16:15The model is entirely ready.
16:17Anybody can fuel their LPG slender,
16:19go to this machine,
16:20right from 0.5 kg to 14 kg,
16:23you can fuel it there only.
16:24Self-free fueling.
16:26Likewise,
16:27we have got for CNG,
16:29good print garage.
16:30Because you know that CNG is a big transition fuel,
16:33it's a big focus from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
16:36And we are helping conversion of people from traditional fuels to CNG,
16:40which is more formal cleaner,
16:41both in terms of commercial as well as overseas.
16:44CNG and CNG both.
16:45So we are showcasing a good print garage
16:49where anybody can come and get the vehicle retrofitted,
16:52get the explosive approval done for this vehicle.
16:56And India is going to be a big hub for data centers in the future.
16:59Already Google,
17:00Apples of the world are coming to India,
17:01are seeking land for putting up the data centers.
17:04Any data center is of the size of football stadium.
17:07So we have evolved a solution for data center industry.
17:11Where rather than air cooling these data servers,
17:14we are dipping it in an immersion liquid.
17:16So it goes inside the liquid
17:18that improves the energy efficiency by 48%.
17:21And it leads to reduction of space required by almost 80 to 90%.
17:26So that real estate also is saved,
17:28plus energy efficiency is there.
17:30That one solution we have showcased here.
17:33Likewise, you know, Net Zero stall,
17:36which is under the edges of the Minister of Petroleum.
17:39We are showcasing equipment,
17:40that is in development stage,
17:42we have almost cracked it.
17:43From water,
17:44we are going to produce hydrogen,
17:45which is going to burn a stove.
17:47So very soon you will find,
17:49from water,
17:50we are going to cook at home.
17:52The country is going through a transition now.
17:54The energy transition is taking place.
17:55From fossil fuel,
17:56we are going to,
17:57now CNG is there,
17:58hydrogen is there,
17:59water is there,
18:00hydro is there.
18:01So,
18:03we are working in all directions,
18:04whether it's EV,
18:05whether it's hydrogen,
18:06whether it's CNG,
18:07we are working in all directions.
18:09We are proud to say now,
18:10we are not only a petroleum company now,
18:11we are going to be an energy company very soon.
18:14We have put up,
18:15our EV corridors are there,
18:17we are in the entire corridor,
18:18right from,
18:19let's say,
18:20Mumbai, Pune,
18:21or Chennai, Bangalore,
18:22those kind of highways are being converted to EV corridors.
18:25So,
18:26all the fuel stations on these highways,
18:27we like EV charging stations.
18:29Likewise,
18:31we have put up our first in the country,
18:33hydrogen filling station at Kochi,
18:34which is ready for commissioning.
18:36Maybe in,
18:37by first week of February,
18:38you will come to know,
18:39we have commissioned hydrogen filling station in Kochi,
18:41that's the first of its kind in India.
18:42So,
18:43we are in hydrogen space also,
18:44we are in EV space also.
18:45CNG,
18:46we have got 26 geographical areas,
18:48we are,
18:49we are the owners of CNG,
18:50and we are propagating CNG and PNG in a big way.
18:52So, wherever energy transition is happening,
18:54we are participating there.
18:55From composite LPG cylinders,
18:58to EV corridors and hydrogen stations,
19:01consumer facing innovation took centre stage.
19:04See,
19:06ONGC first time is trying to market the LNG in Indian market.
19:13So,
19:14they have signed an agreement to bring the cargoes,
19:16for storing and regasification at our terminal,
19:21so that they can market in the Indian countries.
19:24They are also looking for the long term contract signing.
19:27So,
19:28this is the precursor to moving ahead,
19:31for signing the long term contract,
19:33for regasification with ONGCA.
19:35That was the first deal.
19:36Second deal was with the MGL,
19:38Mahanagar Gas Limited,
19:39where on behalf of Mahanagar Gas Limited,
19:42we will be sourcing the LNG,
19:44and we will be storing and supplying to Mahanagar Gas Limited.
19:49This is also city gas distribution companies,
19:52we are looking for some opportunity,
19:54where the terminal operators provide such services,
19:58so that they are able to maintain the supply of the CDD consumers.
20:04So,
20:05this is the second one.
20:06Third one agreement we signed with the IOCL,
20:09for development of the CBG plant,
20:11where they will be providing us the EPCM services,
20:17and we will be working out the framework for that.
20:20Sir,
20:21what would you say are the top expansion priorities for you right now?
20:24Would you say is terminal capacity or these new partnerships that you are doing?
20:27No.
20:28See,
20:29the terminal capacity expansion at Deheja has already been done,
20:32almost it is at the end of the completion.
20:35Gopalpur,
20:36we are in the process of setting up,
20:38and Kochi already is set up,
20:40but only the connectivity of pipeline is improving.
20:42So,
20:43these three will be improving our capacity to almost 10 to 15 million tons more,
20:51and today country is only handling 25 to 27 million tons.
20:54So,
20:55you can understand the additional capacity will be made available for the Indian consumers.
20:59And,
21:00apart from the LNG,
21:01we are in the process of setting up our petrochemical complex,
21:05that is 750 KTPA PDH and 500 KTPA polypropylene plant,
21:11and that is,
21:13the job is going on at the full place,
21:15and we are on track,
21:17and we are targeting to complete that petrochemical complex entire job by middle of 2028.
21:25There is almost 160 to 180 million tons LNG capacity addition in the international market.
21:31So,
21:32that will definitely help in stabilizing the prices,
21:36and it will improve the utilization of LNG in the Indian countries.
21:41Strategic MOUs were signed during the week,
21:44reflected tangible partnerships aimed at strengthening India's gas security and supply chains.
21:50The Prime Minister's vision,
21:54and rather,
21:55I would say,
21:56even for that matter,
21:57the directive,
21:58very recently,
21:59he has announced deep water mission,
22:01deep water exploration mission,
22:03the Samudra Mantra.
22:05Why he has done show?
22:07Maybe,
22:08because India very recently has opened up a very big area for exploration,
22:12which otherwise was not available for the P&P companies.
22:15We are the national oil company of the country,
22:18and the biggest national oil company,
22:20ONGC is the only company which is having so much of experience in offshore in India.
22:24So,
22:25the responsibility goes high in that direction,
22:27and we are aligning with the vision of Honorable Prime Minister to move into deep water exploration.
22:33Already,
22:34we are working in the Andaman Basin.
22:36We have drilled three wells.
22:38Now,
22:39we have taken the rig to the static graphic well.
22:42Just two,
22:43three days back,
22:44I mean,
22:45on the first day of the India Energy Week,
22:46we have spotted that static graphic well.
22:49So,
22:50we'll be aligning ourselves with that.
22:52Now,
22:53with respect to the sustainability and affordability that you must be observing in this India Energy Week itself,
22:59there are exhibitors,
23:01there are companies,
23:02there are endeavours of even the NOCs for that matter,
23:06to moving to alternate energy,
23:08the green fuel energy.
23:10I think Honorable Minister of Petroleum has inaugurated the Hydrogen Energy,
23:15the hydrogen bus here.
23:17That means we are moving to hydrogen system.
23:20Exhibitors are showing new small, small module of hydrogen sales,
23:24electrolyzers.
23:26So,
23:27all those things are available here in India Energy Week,
23:29and people are getting chance to showcase their capacity,
23:33and those who want to invest in that are really discussing many things on that.
23:38The transition may be gas.
23:40Again,
23:41Government of India's vision is to increase,
23:44you know,
23:45gas proposition up to 15% in the energy mix.
23:49Currently,
23:50it's coal,
23:51almost 55,
23:53or maybe little plus to that,
23:55is the consumption of coal in primary energy mix.
23:58Gas is roughly 6-7%.
