00:37My born Vita College is heartfelt and enduring.
00:43In many ways I grew alongside with the institution
00:48and later had the privilege of serving as a trustee
00:53and the council chairman from year 2004 to 2011.
00:59Over the decades, Ta UMD has grown remarkably
01:06from a respected college into a prestigious university.
01:11Its graduates have shaped industry across Malaysia and beyond
01:17in accounting, management, engineering, information technology and entrepreneurship.
01:25The university has built a proud reputation as a trusted partner to industry,
01:32producing leaders, professionals, innovators and policy makers
01:38who contributed by university to Malaysia's progress.
01:44Equally important, Ta College and now Ta UMD has always been true to its mission
01:53of providing affordable and quality education.
01:57For communist young Malaysians from financially challenged families,
02:03this institution was the gateway to brighten the future,
02:08breaking the chains of poverty and opening doors to new opportunities.
02:14I sincerely express my heartfelt appreciation to Ta UND for bestowing upon me
02:29this professional doctorate award and for the values of knowledge, discipline and service that Ta UND
02:31continues to instill in the younger generation of Malaysians.
02:50It is a privilege I accept with the most tremendous respect not only for myself but also on behalf of the many colleagues, mentors and partners
03:09who have been part of my lifelong journey in banking and nation building.
03:17Ladies and gentlemen, my journey in banking began with very humble beginnings.
03:24Along the way, I was guided by my lifetime mentor, the late young Babagia Tan Sri Dattus Sri Dr. De Hong Piao,
03:37the founder and chairman emeritus of Public Bank.
03:42He was more than a leader to me.
03:45He was a lifetime mentor, teacher and a source of inspiration.
03:53Ladies and gentlemen, I often reflect on what it means to have the right mentor.
04:03Mentorship is not simply about guidance but inspiration, trust and belief.
04:14The world is truly at your feet once you find the right mentor and that chemistry exists.
04:27I was blessed beyond measure to have had that bond with Tan Sri Dattus Sri Dr. De Hong Piao.
04:38The lessons he imparted continue to back me and the opportunities he entrusted me continue to inspire me of human today.
