Albert Breer told Toucher & Hardy that Drake Maye looked much better in Week 2 thanks to stronger run support and quicker decision-making. He compared Maye to other young quarterbacks like Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, and CJ Stroud, saying context and supporting cast matter more than box-score stats. Breer added that the Patriots’ run game against the Steelers will be key to Maye’s continued growth.

00:00What is the league saying about Drake May?
00:03I don't think it's changed much.
00:05I, you know, obviously it didn't look as good week one.
00:10He looked awesome last week, and I think they did a lot to help him.
00:14More movement stuff for sure.
00:17And they got, I think they gave him a little bit,
00:20you can see a little bit more of a green light to use his athleticism.
00:24But the big thing was, to me, it looked like he was playing on time.
00:28The ball was out, you know.
00:29And I think that's such a huge key with a young quarterback.
00:32And I think it shows that he's got confidence in what he's doing.
00:37You know, again, like the ceiling is sky high with him.
00:40And I felt that way from the minute he was drafted.
00:45Like I thought it was the right pick over Penix, over McCarthy, over, you know,
00:53over Knicks because I think if you are in today's NFL
00:58and in the AFC in particular, there's that class of quarterbacks.
01:02Like I think there's the four quarterbacks who are so head and shoulders above everybody else right now.
01:07And all of them are in the AFC and Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, and Jackson.
01:13That if you're going to have to probably, for the foreseeable future,
01:19if you have any hope of getting to a Super Bowl, have to beat a few of those guys in succession.
01:25And so I think if you want to have any sort of chance of doing that,
01:29you have to swing for the fences at quarterback.
01:32And that's what drafting Drake May was.
