00:00Hello, I'm Greg Wright of the Yorkshire Post.
00:04UK retailers enjoyed an uplift in sales in August as warm weather boosted clothing sales
00:10and drew shoppers into bakeries, according to new data.
00:15The Office for National Statistics said the total volume of retail sales is estimated
00:21to have risen by 0.5% in August.
00:24This is slightly higher than the 0.4% increase that some analysts have been expecting
00:29and unchanged from a revised 0.5% increase in July.
00:34Clothing stores were given a boost during the month, which many retailers said was due to the good weather,
00:39which encouraged people to stock up on new clothes.
00:43My name is Greg Wright and I'm the Deputy Business Editor of the Yorkshire Post.
