00:00In Kerala's Parapuram, speeding on road comes at a cost of getting thrashed.
00:04Surprised? Let me tell you why.
00:06In Parapuram, speeding vehicles have turned the 14.1 km Desaumwala Kadavu stretch into an accident hotspot,
00:12claiming at least three lies and leaving residents frustrated.
00:15Fed up, they put up warning boats threatening rash and negligent drivers.
00:19They even crowdfunded Rs 9 lakh to buy their own ambulance.
00:23But why did they feel the need to take such steps?
00:25The Desaumwala Kadavu stretch is a key route for travellers heading to Pochi International Airport from towns like Kottayam.
00:31According to ward member Gracie Dayanandan,
00:34Earlier, when the road was bad, accidents were fewer. Now we see them almost every other day.
00:39For the safety of residents, we had no choice but to put up such boats.
00:42According to reports, the stretch was renovated in 2024 for Rs 17 crore making it smooth.
00:47So smooth that motorists now treat it like a race track.
00:50Amid the accidents, Public Works Department authorities say enough warning signs are already in place.
00:55The road was renovated to high standards using bituminous macadam and concrete layering .
01:00There are sign boards and limit speed warnings in place.
01:03However, easing curves or widening them was not part of this project.
01:07Residents aren't convinced. Without speed breakers, cameras or curve correction,
01:11the road remains dangerous and attracts over-speeders.
01:14In response to growing concern, Kaladi police have tightened patrols,
01:17while the PWD have been asked to install more warning boards along the stretch.
