00:00Scott, thanks for joining us. That was a pleasing evening at Broadfield Stadium, wasn't it?
00:05Yeah, I really enjoyed it. Two things that I was looking for from the game.
00:11First thing was I wanted that team to look like that we're supposed to look,
00:18you know, like a Crawley team, and I think that box was ticked, definitely.
00:23And I wanted to win, so we ticked that box as well.
00:26So the task completed in my eyes. I think that it was clear that there was a bit of rust as well
00:32from one or two players, but that's to be expected because they've not played much football,
00:38certainly since pre-season, a lot of them. So I think I have to be kind with that.
00:44But I enjoyed it. I thought there were some positives from the game, obviously.
00:49I think there were some good performances. And I thought it was a really good game.
00:55I just enjoyed it, yeah.
00:57Yeah, three players on the score sheet that have never scored for Crawley before.
01:01So again, it's just a great example of what this competition could provide, isn't it?
01:05Because that can give, you know, great amounts of confidence to players.
01:07Yeah, for sure. It's always pleasing to see defenders score as well.
01:12Brad has got two goals tonight, so I think that's a massive plus.
01:17Seeing Kahim score as well as a good plus as well. And obviously Lofty getting off the mark for the club.
01:23So yeah, pleasing to see that. And I think that we maybe could have scored more.
01:28But having said that, so could they. You know, Jojo made some unbelievable saves towards the end of the game, didn't he?
01:36You know, so kept us in it almost. So no, I thought it was a really good game.
01:41Yeah, and what was also pleasing, but a bit of a sweet moment is, you know, Rhys Brown goes off injured.
01:45But it allows Jude Robertson to make his professional debut.
01:48So obviously we hope Rhys recovers as quickly as possible.
01:50But again, another example of how good this competition is for players like Jude is that he got to come on
01:55and, you know, got his first 75 minutes as a red.
01:58Yeah, I think with Brown he had a migraine actually.
02:01So it's not something that we'd be concerned about moving forward.
02:04I think he suffers with them anyway.
02:07So yeah, you know, I think he'd be okay moving forward.
02:12But yes, seeing Jude get on the pitch in a competitive game for the first time is pleasing.
02:18You know, he's only just turned 17.
02:20So, you know, good for him and he'll learn loads from that.
02:24So yeah, listen, I think it was a really good exercise.
02:27It's exactly what I wanted.
02:28I wanted to see goals.
02:30I wanted to see a performance where we looked like us.
02:33We held possession really well.
02:35And we've got to remember as well, like I say, these lads have not played much football.
02:39I would think that that team we played against Aston Villa would have probably played around maybe,
02:45I don't know, 10 games this season already with that group, that same group.
02:49So they probably kind of know and have a feeling about each other and what they look like as a team where,
02:55you know, we've put a team together today.
02:57This is the first time they've played together in effect.
02:59So I thought we were good.
03:02I thought we were really good.
03:03I thought we dominated large parts of it.
03:06I thought Scott Malone was outstanding building the play at the back.
03:10And it was pleasing to see him get some minutes as well.
03:14Yeah, and the energy was really good and the fitness levels looked really impressive as well,
03:17which is important because with the nature of the season,
03:20we know at some stage we're going to get injuries and we're going to need these players to slide in when needed.
03:24For sure.
03:25I think the fitness levels were good to a degree.
03:28I thought towards the end there was a few cramping up.
03:30But it's to be expected.
03:31Like I say, there is a bit of ring rust there from one or two that haven't played.
03:34So it is to be expected because you can't mirror what a game looks like in training.
03:41You know, as much as we train really hard and the boys do train hard
03:44and we make sure that we always cover the right amount of distance Monday to Friday.
03:49But when they've not played loads of football in a competitive game, it becomes difficult.
03:53And I thought they tired towards the end.
03:56The lads, you could see there's one or two cramping up, but that's to be expected.
04:01But I'm pleased with the outcome of the game.
04:05Brilliant, thanks.
04:06What was the most pleasing aspect?
04:08Was it the fact that they looked like a Scott Lindsay team?
04:10Yeah, for sure.
04:11I think, you know, when you coach the team or certainly the first team that have been playing,
04:17which we do, and sometimes in training we swap bodies around so everybody gets coached, as it were.
04:23And then when you see the first team play and you see actions that you've worked on in training,
04:30it's always pleasing.
04:32But equally as pleasing is when the team that haven't played so much go out and play exactly the same way.
04:40I think, from a coaching point of view, it's great for me, you know.
04:45I think it's really pleasing to see that.
04:47I think we built the play in the same manner.
04:50The goalkeeper had the same amount of ball as what the goalkeeper did on Saturday.
04:54And we looked assured with the ball.
04:57I think, listen, there's a little bit of rust, you know, on one or two of the players.
05:02But I think that's normal with the fact that they've not played, you know.
05:08Yeah.
05:09And you mentioned Jojo, they pulled off some great saves.
05:11Just because we haven't seen any football keepers on the subs bench recently.
05:16Can you just explain the reasoning behind that?
05:18Was it fitness?
05:19Yeah, for sure.
05:20No, the reason behind it is because I gamble that we don't need one.
05:25I think that it's, you tell me the last time you saw a goalkeeper get injured.
05:29Touch wood that that isn't going to happen moving forward.
05:32Yeah.
05:33But I think that, I can't remember the last time I saw a goalkeeper get carried off or come off with an injury.
05:38We also can only have six on the bench based on this rule where we've got another homegrown player.
05:44We haven't got one at the moment.
05:46So we can only have six on the bench.
05:48So if I have six on the bench and include a goalkeeper on the bench,
05:51it only gives me five outfield players.
05:53I can only make five changes during a game anyway.
05:56So that only limits me to what I've got, if that makes sense.
05:59So I need at least one player's choice.
06:02So that's why I do it.
06:04Listen, maybe one day it might come back and bite me on the backside.
06:08But it's a gamble, I'm sure.
06:12I'm sure one day it will bite me on the backside.
06:15But that's what I do and that's why I do it.
06:17But it's reassuring that you see someone like Jojo come on and have a performance like that, isn't it?
06:21Yeah, I thought he was good. I thought he was assured with the ball.
06:25Pleasing to see him on the pitch as well.
06:29And I thought he was unbelievable, certainly in the last ten minutes.
06:34You know, we could have conceded four goals in that last ten minutes if it were all for Jojo, you know.
06:38And that became because of our rustiness.
06:40You know, there's a few misplaced passes, a few silly things that we did.
06:44And I think when you're fatigued, you make the wrong choice.
06:47Which is to be expected, like I say, because these boys have not played loads.
06:51Yeah, and obviously that's four wins on the truck.
06:53Yeah, four wins on the truck.
06:54Three wins on the truck.
06:55Three wins on the truck.
06:56Three on the truck.
06:57Four unbeaten.
06:58Four unbeaten, three on the truck.
06:59I'll take four.
07:00Yeah, but how important was that getting that win tonight for that momentum going into Notts County?
07:03It was the second most important thing tonight that we won.
07:07The most important thing was the performance for me.
07:09Like I say, I wanted to see a team look like us and we saw that.
07:14And the second most important thing was to win.
07:16Because, two reasons.
07:18The main reason being that we want to breed a winning culture here.
07:22I think that's important that it goes throughout the building.
07:25Not just the boys who play in competitive League Two games on a Saturday,
07:29but also the boys who play in these cup matches.
07:31We have to have that winning mentality.
07:34You know, and I think that's vital that we keep that going.
07:39And the second reason is because we want to remain in this competition.
07:43Because, like I say, we've got, I think it's 31 professional footballers here at this club.
07:47So it's important that we continue through this tournament.
07:52And it gives us plenty of games to play, obviously.
07:56So that's why, you know, that it's important.
07:59Yeah, winning mentality is massive, you know.
08:02So, yeah, we're four now, unbeaten.
08:04So, really pleased with that.
08:06Brilliant. Thanks, Scott.
08:11Cool.
08:12Cool.
