00:00With two large metal cups in hand, contestants at the Malaysia Culture Festival FBM in Taman Tasik,
00:07Titiwangsa twirled, danced and stretched frothy streams of teh tarik to dazzling lengths,
00:12without spilling a drop. Among them was 26-year-old student Kay Nagawattini from Balakong,
00:18Selangor, who stole the show with a Sai Gangnam style dance while showcasing her pulling skills.
00:23Her lively act earned her third place. The tea lover said she hoped to gain some experience in
00:29pulling teh tarik, adding that the competition was a fun way to bring people together.
00:33The king of teh tarik went to Syed Qadir Syed Abdullah Al-Attas, a 46-year-old businessman from Johor,
00:39whose flair and creativity won him the king of teh tarik title along with RM300.
00:44I actually opened a kiosk in the front. They called me to drink 2,000 people.
00:53In the same time, I heard from there, there's a fight with teh tarik, so I can keep showing myself.
01:00Meanwhile, the teh tarik queen title went to 28-year-old Nick Zakira Nick Aziz from Bangsar,
01:06who danced gracefully in her kebaya while pulling her tea.
01:10Declaring that teh tarik is life, Nick Zakira said the victory was especially sweet after two days of practice.
01:16Visitors, too, were charmed by the spectacle.
01:17I saw that there's a competition looking for teh tarik queen and king, and that's so interesting.
01:24I just stopped and watched. So I never know they can be so fancy doing a teh tarik.
01:30I thought normally it's just like that, but it's very cute and very fancy.
01:34Teh tarik is kind of like Malaysian. Everyone will drink it, and during like
01:38badminton matches or football matches, the mama will be all full, and then I think everybody will
01:43order teh tarik mostly. You're a fan of teh tarik?
01:47Yeah, yeah, definitely. It's very nice.
01:50The competition, organized by Badan Warisan Malaysia in collaboration with OKI Malaysia,
01:55drew 20 men and women. Contestants were judged on the longest pull, style, cleanliness, froth,
02:02creativity, and confidence. Prices of RM300, RM200, and RM100 were awarded to the top three in both
02:11men's and women's categories.
02:41Sure.
