Klang Valley's 11 major train stations came alive with colour on Saturday (Sept 13) as over 20,000 people donned vibrant sarongs for Keretapi Sarong 2025, marking Malaysia Day celebrations.

00:00Malaysia Day is all about togetherness and today that spirit of unity comes alive in music, colors and sarong.

00:36Over 20,000 Malaysians from diverse backgrounds had gathered on Saturday morning,
00:42all wearing colorful sarongs in various patterns and designs,
00:46to launch the festivities celebrating Malaysia Day on September 16.
00:50Participants had gathered at the Ampang LRT station as early as 7.30am,
00:55with drums, singing and dancing, the crowd had transformed the train platforms into mini carnivals.
01:03This is the 5th time I joined in the event.
01:08Almost every year, we followed the bus.
01:11So, this is the first time I joined in the carter Api Sarong.

01:24Kali ini joined sebab tertarik lah. Sebelum ni nak join tak dapat.
01:29So, kali ni terbuka untuk semua orang kan.
01:32So, saya tertarik nak join dengan pakai tradisi Indian untuk terbukakan lagi untuk kita punya Malaysia lah.
01:42Api Sarong sebelum ni pun kebanyakannya pakaian Melayu sahaja,
01:48macam kebaya.
01:48Dan saya nak, saya nak cuba yang lain untuk kali pertama saya joined.
01:53Ni daripada kawan Indian saya sendiri.
01:55Dia yang ajar saya pakai, dia yang gayakan saya.
01:58This year's 9th edition, themed Serumpun,
02:01to symbolise ASEAN unity,
02:03was organised by LOCO with support from Rapid KL.

02:20before everyone converged at a secret location,
02:23Raintree Plaza at the exchange TRX.
02:26I've been seeing this in Instagram, it's been popping up.
02:31And then these two ladies have actually brought me all the way from Penang
02:34and said, let's join in KL.
02:36Even though Penang has its own kereta Api Sarong as well,
02:40but we wanted to try where the main sport happening.
02:43So, that's why we are here.
02:44And we left from what, 4am?

02:46We left 4am from Penang.
02:49It's nice to see that everyone always started to come out
02:52to show what Unity is all about.
02:54And then, what can we show,
02:56even though we have differences in religions
02:59and how we've been brought up and everything.
03:01But right now, seeing everyone following the Unity,
03:04according to the tagline, Unity True Sarong.
03:07And everyone dressed up with the Sarong,
03:09like myself.
03:10I'm fusioning myself with my Indian ethnicity
03:12and with the Malay ethnicity.
03:14And I love how the rest of them being so creative today.
03:17And I hope they will be a continuous one.
03:19Okay, so there are 10 of us here
03:21and we actually represent each ethnicities
03:25and also some of the countries in Asia.
03:27In terms of preparation and everything,
03:29actually, at the moment they announce the theme and everything,
03:31we actually get ourselves into a meeting.
03:34Like, okay, how are we going to go for this year's theme and everything?
03:36So, yeah, I actually help to coordinate each one of them.
03:40So, this is the result for today.
03:41Yeah.
03:42I think this is a very interesting event
03:44because, like, not only we can actually, you know,
03:47gather around with different people,
03:48with different community,
03:49but we are able to express ourselves
03:51in terms of, like, our ethnicity.
03:53I'm all the way from Patangkali, Ulus Leng.
03:57So, yeah, this is my first time here.
03:59And, yeah, I love this environment right now.
04:03I'm always an Anak Malaysian.
04:05But I always want to join this kind of event.
04:08So, yes, finally I'm here.
04:11The people itself is so warm
04:13and also, yeah, it makes me feel like
04:16I'm so proud to be a Malaysian.
04:32Today's ride may be over,
04:33but the spirit of Malaysia Day lives on.
