00:00mm-hmm good afternoon my name is phil hewitt group arts editor at sussex newspapers lovely
00:05this afternoon to speak to this stringer all the way from australia but now resident in the uk
00:10and that's on such a big brave move you had an established career in australia but you are
00:16enjoying all the challenges of effectively starting again in the uk over the past what
00:21year and three quarters something like that yeah how's it gone how's it going it's going well yeah
00:27and you're right it is i mean it's almost two years which is um feels nuts to say because it's
00:31it's really flown um and yeah i am uh as you say i'm living in london and i'm um i'm enjoying
00:38and being simultaneously challenged by all the things that london has to offer
00:43and it's london a good place to be at the moment
00:47oh from the rain you know i think london would just be a much different place if it was kind of more
00:55affordable to live and i think that's it's true in every kind of major city in the world that it's
00:59just becoming completely unaffordable isn't it so i think the stress financial stress has been
01:03um difficult um but for that it's it's an incredible place to live as well in other ways so
01:11um i've enjoyed being here um and i am yeah i'm being challenged by the change but i you know
01:19and also the change in the music industry how we as we were saying just now the how we consume music
01:25it's different isn't it very very different it's very different and how artists get paid for music
01:30is really different and you know i think how people whether it's whether it's a bit of a result
01:35of the pandemic or cost of living whatever it is that people are the the way that people buy tickets
01:41is different too like the kind of timing of buying tickets is different last minute isn't it
01:46uh yeah yeah which is not good for the the hearts of anyone putting shows on but i also understand
01:52you know there's so so much um so much competing for your pound at the moment um absolutely and we
01:58should say you've got a gig coming up monday october the 13th folklore rooms in brighton and this is on
02:04the back of an album which came out in march this year which was you sounds like you were sort of
02:09taking stock again it's the second high yeah the second high uh it's a record i made in in brixton
02:16with um english producer benny giles and um yeah the i mean that song is kind of about trying to
02:24uh enjoy where i am and be in the moment because i'm thinking i'm someone who's quite restless and
02:30always pushing forward and that means that you never really enjoy where you are so that's something
02:34i'm working on and then the record sort of goes goes all over the place around like kind of social
02:39justice issues and um stories of people that i know and so it's um there are a lot of different
02:46things converging in that kind of same idea i think it sounds fantastic well liz lovely to speak to you
02:52good luck with the tour that's coming up and and thank you for your time thank you phil thanks
