00:12Okay, well, my character, this was in the 70s, I believe, or maybe early 80s.
00:20But she was supposed to be a real feminist, so all of my characters, you know, I had like
00:25the suspenders, I think I wore a tie.
00:28Yeah, I was supposed to be just sort of like a spunky little feminist.
00:34This was, of course, 16 Candles, this was supposed to be the bridesmaid's dress that was supposed
00:42to be pretty unattractive, I actually thought it was kind of pretty.
00:46It cracks me up though that we're doing the scene over, like, that I'm leaning over a cake
00:52with candles on it, I mean, that dress, like, I'm surprised that it didn't go up in flames.
00:58The overall look was just the costume designer and I went to, like, Melrose Boulevard, which
01:06is where I like to shop at that time.
01:08And, you know, I just picked out stuff and tried them on and, you know, I have always really
01:15liked to wear hats, so that's why, you know, and at the time, you know, sort of those, like,
01:20fedoras or pork pie hats were really in.
01:24I was really into, like, madness and, you know, those bands, and so, you know, I feel like
01:30the clothes that I wore were, everything was, like, something that I would have worn, except
01:36for the dress.
01:37The dress was supposed to be this one, was one that I wasn't really supposed to like.
01:42Ah, The Breakfast Club.
01:44Yeah.
01:45So, there was a costume designer on that film, Marilyn Vance, who I later worked with on Pretty
01:51in Pink.
01:53We had had conversations about my costume in Los Angeles and the ideas around it, but
02:01then when it arrived in Chicago, it wasn't really like what I imagined.
02:06It wasn't really very flattering.
02:08And I wasn't really happy with the costume, so John Hughes just, we went out shopping and
02:14I picked out everything that I'm wearing, pretty much.
02:19Most of it came from Ralph Lauren, the boots, the belt, the skirt, the top.
02:25That was all Ralph Lauren.
02:26I think the leather jacket that I wear in the beginning, I think, is from somewhere else,
02:29but yeah, that whole thing is Ralph Lauren.
02:33I feel like she was really an aspirational swan, if you will.
02:37You know, she really cared about clothes.
02:41There was a scene where everyone, I think just about everyone says why they got in detention,
02:47and my character ditched school to go shopping, so shopping was really important to her.
02:54And I felt like she would be into Ralph Lauren.
02:57That was the kind of look that I think Claire went for.
03:02The original outfit was a lot more 80s, and I feel like the film would have looked a lot
03:09more dated had I not been wearing this costume.
03:13Okay, pretty in pink.
03:15The dress on the right was something that we had discussed, Marilyn and I, and again, it
03:21was not exactly what I had envisioned.
03:26And I wasn't really happy with the dress.
03:28Now I think it's, you know, it's sort of iconic and, you know, it's certainly different and
03:34very much of that time.
03:36But at the time, I was sort of miserable and I took a lot of my clothes from Pretty in Pink,
03:43but I left the prom dress because I hated it so much, but now I really wish I had it.
03:48The character had been written for me, the script had been written for me by John Hughes.
03:55So there were a lot of, I would say of all the characters that I played, there was, I was
04:00the most like that.
04:02He took a lot of things, you know, from my life.
04:04Her love of vintage, her love of, you know, fashion and all of that was really just directly
04:11for me and also my obsession with the color pink because I was really into pink at the
04:16time.
04:17So, yeah, I worked with Marilyn and she chose so many great vintage pieces and then other
04:24things that maybe we couldn't use vintage because we needed to have multiple outfits,
04:32you know, if it was like an important or a long scene, they always have to have, you
04:36know, doubles or triples.
04:37So everything, if it was either vintage or it was made to specifically to look vintage.
04:43Pickup artist.
04:44Yeah, this was designed by my good friend, Colleen Atwood, who I had known since I was, I think,
04:5414 years old.
04:55And now, of course, she's an amazing, you know, Academy Award winning designer.
05:00But this was, I think, the second film that we had done together.
05:06I think this is pretty much what I wear during the whole film.
05:09This was my one outfit.
05:11So luckily I liked it and it wasn't too hard to be in it for two months straight.
05:17The only other thing I wear, I think, in this movie is I wear an Aliyah dress in the first
05:22scene that you see.
05:23And I loved that and I think I still have it somewhere.
05:27Okay, yeah, so I think that was towards the end when we went into a time warp and ended
05:32up in the 50s, which was really fun.
05:35Most of my clothes, you know, most of the seasons were in clothes of today.
05:42And you know, Mary was a lawyer, so she, you know, had some money and, you know, my clothes
05:49were always like pretty classic.
05:52Started out with more pale colors and then Roberto, the showrunner, creator of the show,
06:02decided that he only wanted Mary to wear really bright colors.
06:06Really liked blue for some reason.
06:08He really adored blue.
06:10But yeah, but this was towards the end when we were in the 50s and that was really fun.
06:16I really loved working with K.J. Appa, who played my son.
06:19We really got along really well.
06:22I would say that almost all of my scenes were with K.J. and towards the end, Charlie Melton.
06:28But, and in the beginning with Luke, of course, but I really loved, I loved watching these kids
06:36grow up.
06:37You know, it was really kind of like a long run and they were, they started out as kids and
06:41it was really, by the end, you know, K.J. had had his own kid and, you know, it was really
06:47nice watching these kids grow up.
06:50Ah, Dahmer.
06:52Yeah, this time I'm playing Sherry Dahmer.
06:56I think, as you can see, anybody who has seen the show, it's, you know, everything is very yellow.
07:03They wanted the sets and the costumes to be sort of like urine yellow, is what I heard.
07:12So you know, there were a lot of colors that I wouldn't necessarily wear.
07:17I think I, I can't tell, but I think I'm wearing the cross, you know, she's always wearing like
07:22a little tasteful cross just to sort of, you know, show that she's a, she's a, she's a religious
07:30woman.
07:31Um, they both are.
07:33I was really happy to be asked to be in a Ryan Murphy show, you know, I think that he's,
07:39he has fantastic taste in, in, in his cast.
07:44I mean, all of my scenes, just, just about all of my scenes in this were with Richard Jenkins
07:49who was just a phenomenal actor and we really immediately hit it off.
07:53And I feel like when you're working with actors of that caliber, it's just kind of makes, makes
07:58your job a lot easier.
08:00So I had a really good experience doing that.
08:03And then when I was asked to do, uh, Feud, of course, I was, you know, really excited about
08:09that.
08:10And of course, um, you know, excited because it was going to be shooting in New York.
08:14Uh, but all of my scenes were pretty much in Los Angeles.
08:17Yeah, there she is, Joanne Carson.
08:20They really wanted my character to be sort of like an anecdote to all of these, uh, you
08:26know, sort of uptight, very fashionable, chic women, um, like Babe Paley and, you know, CZ
08:34Guest and, uh, Slim Keith and Lee Radiswell.
08:38You know, Joanne was really, she wasn't really an official swan.
08:42He was really more his last friend.
08:44So they really wanted my clothing to be more colorful and kind of a bit more bohemian.
08:50So, which is why I have this kind of like, almost like caftan on.
08:54But I, I really liked that caftan and I would totally wear that.
08:58All the clothes that I would want to wear were really worn by all of the women in New York.
09:04It's really much more my style, I would say, uh, than Joanne's style, but, um, but I really,
09:11I had a lot of fondness for my character.
