Visayas grid to get boost with expansion of coal-fired power plant  Therma Visayas, Inc. (TVI) lays the cornerstone for its Unit 3 expansion in Barangay Bato, marking the start of a 150-megawatt (MW) addition to its existing 300-MW facility. The project aims to reinforce the Visayas grid, close Cebu’s supply deficit, and help stabilize power as demand is expected to reach 1,400 MW by 2026. AboitizPower executives highlighted the milestone’s impact on Cebu and the Visayas. Regional COO for Visayas Rhea Navarro said Unit 3 would help drive growth and strengthen the grid, while COO Aldo Ramos called it a capacity for 'hope, enterprise and the future' for Toledo, Cebu, and beyond. Unit 3, a brownfield coal-fired expansion that uses existing site infrastructure, is scheduled for completion by 2028.  Once operational, it will raise TVI’s total capacity to 450 MW, providing reliable baseload power, creating jobs, and supporting key industries while reducing Cebu’s dependence on imported supply. 02:28For Cebu's 3.3 million residents, a steady supply of electricity is crucial to keep hospitals running,

02:39As we move ahead with Unit 3, our focus continues to be safe operations, responsible care for

02:53So today's ceremony carries a fitting name.

02:56It's called Cornerstone.
