00:00A male contraceptive pill could just be around the corner after a hormone-free pill has just
00:05cleared its first human trial.
00:07Hi, I'm health reporter Sarah McCann.
00:11Here is everything you need to know.
00:14There is no male contraceptive pill available at the moment, with contraception options for
00:19men limited to condoms or a vasectomy.
00:22However, this could soon change after a hormone-free male contraceptive pill cleared its first
00:28human trial.
00:30Known as YCT-529, it works by temporarily disabling sperm, and can be taken once every few days
00:39with no significant side effects.
00:43The pill is hormone-free, meaning it doesn't suppress testosterone, it instead targets a
00:48protein essential for sperm production, temporarily leaving sperm unable to fertilise an egg.
00:54Speaking about the development, medical group MaleXL have described it as a landmark moment
00:59in men's health and gender equity.
01:02The research around this new proposed hormone-free male contraceptive pill is promising.
01:07However, it is still in the early phases, and if the medication is approved, it is a long
01:13way off.
01:15If you need to find out information about contraceptive options, you can find out more at NHS.UK.
01:24.
01:25Thanks.
01:27I'm going to try to be a plan for the problem.
01:32This is called Breaking Bad.
01:35I'm not up to you now.
01:37I'm going to stop backing сначала, but this has been too late.
01:41I was going to be a plan for the product.
01:47You're not going to be a plan for the product.
