Scott Reid demonstrating Tascam's CD-200 CD player
Transcript
00:00So let's look at the TASCAM CD200 in action.
00:07Proper disk in.
00:15Drawer loading which most people prefer to the slot loading mechanism.
00:19Very smooth, very quiet and very quick at reading the contents.
00:24And because you've got CD text, using the remote control
00:28you can change the display mode to show you
00:33the title of the disc.
00:37Heartbreaker.
00:4025th Anniversary.
00:44And the artist.
00:47In this case Ryan Adams.
00:51And back to elapsed time.
00:58The remote control is a plasticky affair but covers all the main functions.
01:04You've also got a numeric keypad at the top so you've got direct entry of track numbers.
01:15Front panel's got variable headphone output so you can plug a pair of cans straight into the front.
01:21Doesn't need to go through an amplifier.
01:23You've got a pitch control.
01:25With a 12.5% variation either way.
01:28Your main transport key's on the right.
01:30Pretty straightforward layout.
01:32But it's a well built machine.
01:35In my system it's sitting on top of the AudioLab 9000 CDT.
01:40Which sells for about 4 times the price.
01:43Around about £1000 versus £250.
01:47And if you read my review you'll find out that the differences are not as vast as you might think.
01:53And the AudioLab certainly has a nicer display.
01:56There's an equally smooth mechanism.
02:01Very similar to the Tiag in fact.
02:03And a better remote control.
02:10Which we've got here.
02:12Which puts the Tascam to shame somewhat.
02:17But really all in for the money.
02:23The Tascam makes an excellent CD player.
02:25Either through its analog outputs direct to an amplifier.
02:28Or via its digital output.
02:30Which is how I've got it connected up here.
02:32To an external DAC.
02:34And it really does shine for the money.
02:36And it comes highly recommended.
