00:00Sam, it's been pretty remarkable from my perspective

00:03where you have been able to build for the future

00:06while contending, while also getting guys

00:09to sign long-term extensions

00:10at relatively team-friendly deals.

00:12I mean, the Chapman contract was shocking to me

00:15given his season, him signing up here.

00:17Does it feel like that this roster is invested

00:20and wants to be here for the long-term?

00:23It does.

00:25And, you know, a couple of weeks ago,

00:26we had a player roundtable with, say,

00:32seven or 10 guys, young guys, veteran guys,

00:36and a few of us in management and ownership.

00:40And the general message from the clubhouse was

00:43guys really love playing in Boston.

00:48And I think what's cool is you've got the veteran guys,

00:50guys like Alex Bregman and Trevor Story

00:53and Aroldis Chapman mixed in with Garrett Crochet

00:57and Roman and guys that are new but immediately get it.

01:03And the veteran guys appreciate it.

01:05They've been other places,

01:06and they've seen fan bases unlike Red Sox, our fan base.

01:12And sort of you can literally see them in this session,

01:15you know, sharing with guys what it's like in other places

01:18and how much better it is here,

01:20how much better it is to play in front of packed houses

01:23and in a market where people care about baseball

01:25as much as anything in their lives.

01:27So it's a group that wants to be here,

01:30and that's a great thing.

01:32And our responsibility is to keep the right guys here

01:36for the long term.

01:38And that starts with players that want to be here.

01:41We want guys that want to play in Boston.

01:43And, you know, we started this day talking about opening day 2002

01:48and I think back over the two and a half decades,

01:51and we've got to lock down the guys that want to be in Boston

01:56and want to be at Fenway because it's so special for that type of player.

02:01That's something that we're focused on.

02:04Speaking of those types of players who want to be here,

02:06there was a passing report and I've been panicked about it since

02:11that Alex Bregman has decided to opt out.

02:16Can you tell us that that's nonsense?

02:19You guys are still talking.

02:21You're not getting that feeling from him?

02:23You know, it's interesting.

02:25We were all surprised by that report given, you know,

02:30we just haven't had discussions with Alex about anything other than

02:35the goal at hand right now with what's in front of us these next 15 games.

02:40So that will all take care of itself.

02:43He wants to be here.

02:45We want him to be here.

02:47And I'll leave it at that.

02:48But he's such an important part of this season and what we're doing.

02:52And all focus right now are on these next 15 games.

02:56And fingers crossed, October baseball.
